I could hear the urgency in Ke'er's voice, so I hurriedly entered my body. As Soul lay down, I opened my eyes.
Ke'er was on the verge of tears.
But at that moment, Jianjian asked me, "Saning Brother, how could you come back?"
I looked at Jianjian in surprise. Soul had left the body, and unless there was some special method, it shouldn't be easy to return, just like Wind Tree.
Wang Wei quickly stopped his wailing and said, "It might be because it hasn't been long since he left the body."
Jianjian seemed to want to say more but held back, finally just saying, "Saning Brother, it's good that you're back."
I asked Ke'er, "How did my soul leave the body?"
Ke'er had tears welling up in her eyes as she replied, "Husband, your soul was taken out by that Paper Man."
"Was it when I chased after him just now?"
Ke'er nodded and then said, "Husband, you need to be careful; something feels off here."
I reassured Ke'er not to worry; I was back now, wasn't I? She finally stopped crying as I slowly stood up.
But at that moment, Ke'er whispered in my ear, "Husband... are you hiding something from me?"
"Ah," I was caught off guard by Ke'er’s question. For a moment, I didn’t know how to respond; Jianjian's words had clearly exposed me. But it didn’t matter. I had intended to tell Ke'er anyway, but just as I opened my mouth to speak, Ke'er said to me, "Husband, if there's something to discuss, let's talk about it later."
I looked at Ke'er, and she looked back at me. Then she said, "Husband, I believe in you."
Suddenly, I felt a surge of emotion.
I wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. Instead, I embraced Ke'er for a moment. Earlier, my soul had left my body, and now it felt like I was truly alive again.
Wang Wei suddenly grew sentimental and said, "Saning, you found your body so quickly. I still can’t reclaim mine after all these years."
With a sigh, Wang Wei continued. I replied that I hadn’t lost my body; I had only been gone for a little over ten minutes, while he had been searching for his for twenty years. But I promised him that I would help him find it.
As soon as I finished speaking, Wang Wei nearly rushed over to hug me, saying he was touched. I quickly told him to back off, and he chuckled and stepped away.
Meanwhile, the faceless soul returned to Ke'er’s body. It seemed that Ke'er had somehow guided that faceless soul to find me.
Now I was increasingly curious about the connection between the faceless Wandering Soul and Ke'er.
My breathing quickened as I realized why that Evil Being could reach out to me without me noticing; at that moment, I had merely been a soul.
But shouldn’t my eyes have been there too? Was it possible that my eyes were only attached to my physical form?
After pondering this for a while without clarity, I decided to let it go.
Since the Evil Being did not reveal itself, we were at a loss as to how to deal with it. The situation felt intricate and mysterious. At that moment, another White Lantern fell from the wall.
The White Lantern fell to the ground and was quickly consumed by flames.
A chilling aura filled the air.
Ke'er called out to me, "Husband," and I responded. She suggested, "Let's go check the spirit hall."
I agreed, and after Ke'er merged with the faceless soul, there was hardly any change; their presence felt almost identical.
I gazed at Ke'er in a daze.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
Jianjian followed me, clutching a bowl of noodles, while Wind Tree held Wang Wei's hand. We returned to the spirit hall since there was no way out from outside.
However, if it was a maze, there should be an exit.
The plaque above the spirit hall still stood tall, with only a single character, Wu, visible. The two characters behind it showed clear signs of having been erased.
"Wu Saning?" Could it really be Wu Saning? I couldn't help but question in my mind.
Previously, I had been caught up in the notion of being the main character and associated this "Wu" with myself. Ke'er must have thought the same; she definitely knew the name Wu Saning.
Suddenly, I said to Ke'er, "Perhaps the true protagonist of this Live Burial isn't me." I voiced my speculation.
Ke'er looked at me and said, "Husband, haven't you figured something out?"
I shook my head and stepped forward, wanting to take a look at the plaque, as the two erased characters might not be my name.
I took a step closer, and in the center where the plaque was placed, there was a table covered with yellow cloth, neatly laid out.
"Husband," Ke'er called out to me with concern.
I approached the Spirit Platform and directly picked up the plaque. As I held the Spirit Tablet, it felt heavy in my hands. I touched the surface of the Spirit Tablet; it was cold, a single word that could describe my feelings towards this Spirit Tablet.
I traced my fingers over the character Wu, which had been carved deeply with a knife. The two characters below were already scratched and felt rough to the touch.
The character "Wu" was engraved deeply; although the two characters behind it were scratched, I could still feel the traces of the past.
However, soon I felt a slight sting in my hand; I had pricked myself, and blood began to stain the Spirit Tablet.
At that moment, a strange wind blew through.
I set down the Spirit Tablet and turned around to look.
Ke'er noticed the blood on my hand and asked if I was okay. I replied that someone was coming.
Ke'er turned her head to look.
Wang Wei suddenly exploded with anger, shouting, "Saning, that damned Evil Being has arrived."
Red and white lights flickered alternately. Strangely enough, he was followed by many Paper Men. When I first saw Wang Wei's soul in the hospital, he appeared as a middle-aged man, but now he stepped forward as a young man in his twenties, looking quite handsome.
I couldn't help but ask Wang Wei, "Is this your body?" To be honest, I could hardly believe it. This guy, Wang Wei, was almost more handsome than me, but thankfully, I was just a bit more attractive.
I stared blankly at Wang Wei as he replied, "Of course it's my body, but right now it's occupied by this damn thing."
Wang Wei's soul was incomplete, and within this body lingered a trace of his Remnant Soul.
At that moment, the person looked like a "king," as he was surrounded by numerous Paper Men, each of whom was attached to a Soul.
Wang Wei cursed directly, "Damn it, give my body back!"
The man sneered and said to Wang Wei, "Is this body really yours? You didn't get enough beating last night."
Something felt off. As soon as I heard that voice, I sensed something was wrong because it was different from the previous one, especially when he said, "Wu Saning, you've gained too much already."
This person was definitely not the strange ghost-like figure or soul from before.
Looking at the one occupying Wang Wei's body, I said, "You're not him."
He glanced at me and replied, "There's only me here. Everything in this place is arranged by me; there's no one you refer to as him."
"None at all?"
"Absolutely none." As he spoke, his gaze wandered slightly. Wang Wei turned to me and said, "Saning, I'm going in. Help me out later."
I nodded. After Wang Wei finished speaking, he moved toward the Evil Being. I initially thought the Paper Men would react, but strangely enough, they remained still.
They seemed to be glancing at me.
Of course, they might not be looking at me but rather at the Spirit Tablet behind me. I shifted my body slightly, yet those Paper Men continued to stare at me.
Wang Wei and the Evil Being with a physical form were locked in a fierce battle, grappling with each other. At that moment, the man seemed to be chanting a spell, but after the incantation, nothing happened.
Wang Wei reached out to grab the man's soul, trying to pull it out, but he failed several times.
I guessed that the man was indeed chanting a spell to summon these Paper Men, but it appeared that they were not responding to his control.
Ke'er stepped forward and said, "Husband, this person is definitely not what he seems."
I could see it too; they were fighting like street thugs. It couldn't possibly be the same person who had spoken earlier. Wang Wei was struggling and shouted to me, "Saning, come help me!"
Ke'er wanted to intervene but I stopped her. I said to Ke'er, "Ke'er, I will tell you my secret now."
Ke'er looked at me curiously, wanting to say something, but I urged her not to speak.
However, just as I took a step forward, a scene unfolded before my eyes that left me stunned...
