It felt like a long time had passed since that day, long enough for Jono to forget what she had said to Jin Chengyan. After that morning, she hadn't seen him again.
It was only when she took out her phone and saw the circle of devices around her, all referred to as "crystal," that she truly felt the connection she had with Jin Chengyan.
She lost her job at the nightclub because she had hit someone, and the manager demanded that she repay the advance on her wages, giving her only half a month to do so.
She had managed to find Qiao Chen a place at a public high school, though the quality of education there was not great, and she was just waiting for Monday to start classes.
However, on Sunday, the school administrator informed her that due to Qiao Chen's incident, they could not allow him to attend classes and advised her to look for another school.
As if that wasn't enough, the court notified Jono that she needed to bring Qiao Chen in on Wednesday; they were the defendants!
Her father's medical expenses were depleted again...
One thing after another weighed heavily on Jono, making it hard for her to breathe.
Right now, she couldn't bring herself to go back to the nightclub and ask for an advance on her wages again.
But she also couldn't bring herself to call the first contact on her speed dial to tell him that she agreed to that damned agreement.
She simply couldn't get past this hurdle within herself.
Yet she knew she had to try; she needed to contact a lawyer to represent Qiao Chen. She couldn't let him have a criminal record at such a young age.
Jono went to the law firm she had always worked with in collaboration with the Qiao family. However, it was clear that she couldn't just walk in and see a lawyer right away; she'd have to wait.
While in the waiting room, Jono watched the television inside.
It had been a long time since Jono had seen Jin Chengyan, and now he appeared on television.
But it wasn't for any financial news; it was for gossip entertainment.
On the screen, Jin Chengyan walked out of Jin Building, surrounded by a throng of entertainment reporters.
He was accompanied by A-Shan, and the reporters couldn't get close. Alice maintained a serious expression, sensing that this situation was not going to be easily resolved.
"Mr. Jin, the media caught you entering and exiting Miss Ruan's apartment. Are you two in a romantic relationship?"
"Mr. Jin, is Miss Ruan really your girlfriend? Will she become a daughter-in-law of the Jin family?"
"Mr. Jin..."
All the questions from the entertainment reporters were directed at Jin Chengyan and the woman named Miss Ruan.
Jono, who usually didn't pay much attention to the entertainment industry, had no idea who Miss Ruan was. However, she felt that Jin Chengyan being exposed to reporters might have been his own intention.
After all, during the last incident at Prosperity Hotel, there had been so many reporters present, yet none of those stories saw the light of day the next day. It was clear that they had been arranged by Jin Chengyan's people.
Jono shrugged; she didn't understand Jin Chengyan's world.
Yet, seeing him on the television screen made Jono feel inexplicably nostalgic.
Was it simply because it had been so long since they last met?
The scene shifted to an interview with the woman named Miss Ruan.
Her answer was quite simple. "Mr. Jin and I are just business partners. I have an advertisement under the Jin Family, and my meeting with Mr. Jin was merely a routine matter. That day, I wasn't feeling well, and Mr. Jin showed great gentlemanly conduct by coming to my apartment to meet me without delaying work. My agent and his assistant were both present that day."
The explanation was reasonable enough, and Jono decided to let it go.
Jono glanced at the time; she had already been waiting in the lounge for over half an hour, and no one from the Law Firm had come to attend to her...
She looked up again, and the scene had switched back to Jin Chengyan.
He was indeed... very handsome. When photographed by reporters, he appeared calm and composed, showing no less charisma than a top star.
"Mr. Jin, do you plan to get married?" a reporter threw out the question.
Wearing sunglasses throughout, Jin Chengyan paused upon hearing the question, took off his sunglasses, and with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth, looked at the camera and said, "That's a good question."
Everyone around chuckled, waiting for Jin Chengyan's response.
A-Shan, Alice, and a group of security personnel beside Jin Chengyan were all unsure of what their boss was about to say.
Then they heard Jin Chengyan say, "However, I do indeed have someone in mind to marry."
