Jono's heart skipped a beat as she looked at Jin Chengyan on the television screen, and he seemed to be looking back at her, as if they were sharing a gaze across the distance of the screen.
She saw his lips move: "Jono."
He was telling Jono in this way that the person he was going to marry was her, Jono.
Look, he knew for sure that Jono was watching from in front of the screen, so even forming those words with his lips was done with absolute confidence. His gaze pierced through the screen and seemed to see right into Jono.
She quickly turned her face away, avoiding his eyes.
Jin Chengyan was too terrifying.
"Miss Qiao, I'm sorry, but the lawyer is unavailable today. Would you like to reschedule?" The secretary said apologetically to Jono while holding some documents.
Jono had just snapped back to reality from Jin Chengyan's words when she received this news.
But before she could respond, her phone rang.
She was quite reluctant to pull out that phone in front of others; it felt like blatant flaunting of wealth. Besides, where would Jono get the money to show off?
So even she told Qiao Chen that the phone was a high imitation; otherwise, what kind of phone would look so… gaudy, with a circle of diamonds embedded on it?
Qiao Chen agreed with her sister's assessment and didn’t press further about the… crystals on the phone. She just felt that her sister's taste had noticeably declined.
After notifying Jono, the secretary left.
Jono took out her phone and saw that the first shortcut was Jin Chengyan.
With a stiff expression, Jono answered the call. Fortunately, his face was no longer on the television; otherwise, it would have felt like talking to him face-to-face.
"Did you see the news?" Jin Chengyan's voice sounded so excited.
“……” Jono remained silent, pretending he was unaware of the situation.
However, the sound from the television reached Jin Chengyan's ears, perfectly coinciding with what he heard on his end, as Jono was also listening to the same broadcast.
“Where are you?” Jin Chengyan asked casually.
“I’m at…” Jono instinctively began to reveal his location, “I don’t want to say.”
But he quickly changed the subject, expertly avoiding the topic.
“Stop joking around. Everyone knows I’m getting married now, but I don’t have a bride,” Jin Chengyan said with an unprecedented seriousness.
Yet that phrase “stop joking” left Jono completely out of sync with the conversation.
Even when he was with Shen Fengye, Jin Chengyan rarely spoke sweet words, let alone anything to lighten the mood. He had told Jono that after being together for so long, those feelings were already understood without needing to be voiced.
But then Jono wondered if all the sweet nothings Shen Fengye hadn’t said to her had been shared with Ni Yue instead.
“That’s your own business. So many people are waiting to marry you; why do you have to look for me?” Jono’s stubbornness flared up.
It was that kind of irritation he couldn’t express to anyone else but felt completely natural in front of Jin Chengyan.
Jin Chengyan thought for a moment and said, “You’re beautiful and graceful, capable in both social settings and the kitchen… The last part still needs verification. Overall, you would indeed make a great wife.”
As he spoke, it seemed even his eyebrows lifted slightly in amusement.
Jono felt his ears heat up at his words.
“Go to Timely Law Firm,” Jin Chengyan instructed the driver directly.
Upon hearing this, Jono realized that was where he currently was. How did Jin Chengyan know?
“Stay there and don’t move. Do you believe I’ve installed a tracking system on you?” Before Jono could respond, he hung up the phone.
Jono held his phone, looking completely bewildered.
In the Black Bentley, Jin Chengyan hung up the call, a smile still lingering on his face, which A-Shan could see clearly in the reflection of the passenger mirror.
"Swallow whatever you want to say," Jin Chengyan seemed to anticipate A-Shan's thoughts and spoke first.
A-Shan nodded silently but couldn't help himself. "You seemed very happy during that call. That girl must really make you happy."
Jin Chengyan wasn't angry at A-Shan for contradicting him; instead, he replied, "No, A-Shan, you don't understand."
A-Shan chose not to pursue the topic further, but his current understanding was that the young master was happy talking to that girl, while his conversation with Miss Ruan had been entirely cold.
