Jono understood that childhood sweethearts were simply boys and girls who grew up together. Although she and Huo Yawen had been apart for several years, she had spent her first four years of life with him!
"I guess so!" Jono nodded vigorously. "Do you think my bad luck has finally come to an end and a beautiful life is beckoning me? I feel like it won't be long before my dad wakes up, and I can live with him again!"
She could already envision how bright her future days would be.
"Of course, I owe all of this to you! You were there to lend a helping hand when I needed it the most!"
"Hmph." Jin Chengyan let out a light snort. Jono was a very clever girl; after sharing so many happy thoughts, she still credited him for her good fortune!
Any man would feel satisfied with his own sense of masculinity.
"Focus on cooking." He gestured toward the dish she had forgotten on the stove in her excitement before turning to leave the kitchen.
Back in the living room, Jin Chengyan took out his phone and called Yan'an City.
"Ancheng, thank you! Let's go out for a meal sometime!"
"Huh? Thank you? For what? A meal? Sure, I'm free in two days."
Jin Chengyan quickly picked up on the confusion in Yan'an City's tone and immediately asked, "What about the things I asked you to do?"
"What happened... Ah, I remember now. Oh my gosh, do you know that you woke me up when you called me that day? I went back to sleep and forgot after waking up... Brother, I'll arrange it right away..." Yan'an City was in a panic.
"Forget it." After saying that, Jin Chengyan hung up the phone.
Unconsciously glancing towards the kitchen, Jin Chengyan was surprised to find that Jono had managed to sell the house by herself without his help! He knew that was a twenty percent increase—how difficult it must be for a newly appointed salesperson!
Should he start to see Jono in a new light?
"Crash—"
"Ah—"
Two sounds came from the kitchen. Jin Chengyan put down the phone and walked over, only to see a plate had met its glorious end, with Jono squatting on the floor picking up the shards.
"Don't use your hands..."
"Hiss—" Just as Jin Chengyan finished speaking, Jono's finger was cut by a piece of porcelain, and blood immediately welled up. She instinctively brought her index finger to her mouth, having heard that it could stop the bleeding!
But Jin Chengyan was quicker; he stepped forward, grabbed her hand, and led her to the sink, turning on the cold water to rinse her wound.
"You still say you want to be a chef? You can't even hold a plate steady." Once he saw the bleeding slow down, he handed her a tissue to dry her hand, but his words dripped with sarcasm.
Jono felt wronged!
"You've placed your plates too high! I barely managed to reach them, and they just fell out!" Jono pointed at the cabinet above. "This design is clearly unreasonable. You can't expect to hire a servant who's 180 centimeters tall to cook for you. How can an average person reach plates that high?"
Jin Chengyan looked at Jono, who was being so articulate. So, it was the fault of the house's owner—himself, Jin Chengyan—for not instructing anyone to place the plates properly?
Not hearing a response, Jono glanced at Jin Chengyan's expression, which seemed… a bit angry.
But why was he angry?
"Forget it, forget it. Let's eat first; we can clean this up later." Jono didn't want to deal with this tense atmosphere. "Could you please hand me a plate? I'm afraid I'll drop it again."
Jono turned to look at the eggs and shrimp sliding in the pot, anxiously waiting for Jin Chengyan's plate, unsure if he would listen to her…
Then, a ceramic plate was placed beside Jono; Jin Chengyan had brought it over.
Just as Jono was about to scoop some food with her spoon, she felt Jin Chengyan standing behind her, in a way that felt almost too close!
