Jono still couldn't go to work, as he was just stepping out when A-Shan begged him to stay. She insisted that their young master was too delicate and needed someone to take care of him. A-Shan's earnest words made it hard for Jono to refuse, especially since she was a decent person.
He couldn't help but mentally complain about how picky their young master was, criticizing the porridge for not being thick enough and the boiled water for not being warm enough...
Fine, Jono decided to think of Jin Chengyan as a young man who was having trouble in love and couldn't vent his frustrations on his girlfriend, so he took it out on those around him.
However, Jin Chengyan was in good health; he recovered from his cold the next day. Yet, he had no intention of leaving and ended up staying for two consecutive days!
All the work-related matters were communicated to Jono through Alice via phone calls or video chats.
As for Jono, he had become Jin Chengyan's personal caretaker.
"Jin Chengyan, what do you plan to have for lunch?" The most frequent conversations between Jono and Jin Chengyan revolved around what he had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
"Braised pork," Jin Chengyan replied while leaning on the sofa, looking over some documents.
"You can't eat something so greasy after being sick..." Even though he had already recovered.
"Then what's the point of asking me?"
"..." Jono found himself hitting a wall again.
Jin Chengyan glanced at Jono before looking away. Just then, A-Shan's newly bought phone rang on the sofa.
He picked it up, frowned, and unceremoniously pressed the hang-up button.
The phone rang incessantly, and Jin Chengyan hung up each time.
Finally, on the fourth ring, Jin Chengyan answered.
“Never mind, I’ll hang up,” he said, already pulling the phone away from his ear.
Jono watched as Jin Chengyan's expression turned increasingly angry. It seemed wise to leave, but then she heard her name.
“I know you know Jono. Tell me where I can find her; I have something to discuss with her.” It was a man's voice.
Upon hearing her name, Jono turned to look at Jin Chengyan.
Jin Chengyan also looked at Jono, but his expression was far from pleasant.
“No comment,” he said flatly. Even through the phone, the man on the other end could likely feel Jin Chengyan's cold demeanor.
Jono looked at Jin Chengyan in confusion. Who could be calling him to find her?
Suddenly, Jono thought of someone—Yan Beiting.
That day, Jin Chengyan had clearly told Jono to stay away from this man.
Although Jono didn’t understand why Jin Chengyan felt that way—did he suspect she would cheat? After all, there was no notion of fidelity between her and Jin Chengyan.
Jono couldn’t hear what the other person said, but she saw Jin Chengyan stand up from the sofa before he hung up the phone.
She nervously watched him, wondering if Yan Beiting had said something bad about her.
"What's wrong... Is it... Yan Beiting looking for me?" Jono said somewhat nervously, after all, Yan Beiting had mentioned considering marriage after meeting her that day!
"Jono, I'm taking you to the hospital."
Jono felt that beneath Jin Chengyan's calm expression lay a storm of emotions.
"Why go to the hospital? Do you feel unwell? Should I call Dr. Qi to come over?" Jono instinctively thought something was wrong with Jin Chengyan.
But after saying that, she realized Jin Chengyan meant to take her to the hospital.
A bad premonition crept into her heart as she looked at Jin Chengyan, her pupils involuntarily dilating.
Jin Chengyan said nothing and had already taken a step forward, holding Jono's hand as they left the mansion.
Jin Chengyan had heard from Yan Beiting that Jono's father's condition had worsened, and they needed to hurry to the hospital; otherwise, they might not get a chance to see him one last time.
