Jono watched Qiao Chen in the hospital room, quietly sitting beside his father. He carefully arranged his father's clothes, tucked him in, and combed his hair.
As he did these things, Qiao Chen moved cautiously, afraid of disturbing his father.
In that moment, Jono felt a strong tug at her heart, and the next second, she reached for Jin Chengyan.
She believed that Qiao Chen wouldn’t do anything foolish; he probably just needed a chance to be alone with his father.
Jin Chengyan looked at Jono in surprise, but when he saw Qiao Chen's actions in the room, he understood.
It was during that time when their grandmother passed away. He had been picked up from school by the driver while everyone else rushed to say their final goodbyes. Only he arrived too late; by the time he got there, their grandmother had already closed her eyes.
Back then, he hadn’t been as composed as Qiao Chen was now. In the end, it was the household servant who pulled him back to his room and locked him inside to prevent any mishap.
Jin Chengyan knew the feeling of losing a loved one. He turned to look at Jono, and as he expected, her emotions were low; she was trying hard to hold it together, biting her lip until it turned slightly pale.
"Come here, Jono," he said, opening his arms.
He knew that what Jono needed right now was a hug—a warm embrace to keep her from feeling the coldness of the world around her.
Jono looked at his broad embrace. Yes, she was very sad and distressed; she longed to soak up sunlight in a warm place. She took a step forward and wrapped her arms around Jin Chengyan's waist.
She buried her head in his chest, knowing that only this way would her cries go unheard, and only this way could she hide her weakness from others.
Jin Chengyan could clearly feel the person in his arms trembling all over due to the loss of control over her emotions. She was doing her best to hold herself together, not letting out a sound, but he could feel the fabric of his shirt growing damp from her tears.
He gently patted Jono's back, offering her silent comfort.
At that moment, Huo Yawen rushed over after grabbing the keys from the nurse, eager to tell Jono that he had them. However, as he approached, he saw Jono nestled in the arms of another man.
She clung tightly to his waist, burying her head in his chest as her body shook, while the man soothingly patted her back.
Huo Yawen couldn't quite put it into words, but he felt that Jono looked so peaceful in that man's embrace, as if she truly belonged there.
What was Jono's relationship with this man?
It was just a fleeting thought. Huo Yawen reminded himself that he shouldn't get caught up in Jono's relationship with that man; it was Qiao Chen in the ward who mattered most!
With determination, he walked over and cleared his throat.
Jono seemed startled and finally pulled away from Jin Chengyan's embrace, quickly wiping away the tears on her face behind the two men.
Jin Chengyan also released Jono, giving her a deep look before shifting his gaze to Huo Yawen.
He remembered that it was this Male Doctor who had been holding Jono just moments ago.
"The key is here," Huo Yawen's gaze passed over Jin Chengyan and landed on Jono.
Jono turned around, the traces of tears on her face had disappeared. "No need, let Qiao Chen spend some time alone with Dad. He will figure it out; he’s not a child anymore."
As soon as Jono finished speaking, silence enveloped the room.
She looked at Qiao Chen inside the ward; he was very quiet, but since he had his back to Jono, she couldn't see the expression on his face.
Because Jono had her back to Huo Yawen and Jin Chengyan, she didn't notice their eyes meeting in the air, creating a tension that felt like a battle lasting three hundred rounds.
