Jono had slept for a long time, unaware of what was happening outside.
It wasn't until forty-eight hours later that someone, accompanied by his personal bodyguard, forced open the door to her apartment.
Once the door was opened, Jin Chengyan stepped inside.
It was his first time visiting Jono's place. The apartment was small, just a one-bedroom unit, with the living room converted into a bedroom, containing a bed.
There was also a room with the door tightly shut. Jin Chengyan walked over and opened it, revealing Qiao Chen curled up on the bed.
Jin Chengyan took two steps forward and instinctively checked Jono's breath. After confirming she was still alive, he waved at A-Shan, who was standing at the door, and A-Shan obediently exited the apartment.
He was certainly angry; he hadn't heard anything from Jono in two days. Initially, he thought she was too busy with her father's funeral to respond. But when he called her and got no answer, he sensed something was wrong.
After asking A-Shan to investigate, he learned that the funeral had taken place two days prior and that Jono was missing.
Jin Chengyan had witnessed Jono's despair after losing her father. A sudden feeling struck him—what if she did something foolish? That thought drove him to come here.
Seeing her motionless and curled up on the bed made him truly believe she might be dead.
Fortunately, there was still a faint breath.
What was he relieved about?
"Jono!" Jin Chengyan turned on the light in the room. It had been raining for days, leaving the weather gloomy and the room dark. "Jono, wake up!"
Jono, still in a daze, seemed to hear someone calling her name. The blinding light made her instinctively raise a hand to shield her eyes.
It was true; someone was indeed calling for her!
In her hazy state, she caught sight of a figure nearby, the light casting a glow around him, making it hard to see clearly.
"I don't want to see 'widowed' next to my spouse's name. Get up quickly!"
At that moment, Jono truly realized it was Jin Chengyan who had come.
She propped herself up with her hands and sat up. "What are you doing here?"
She remembered he was supposed to be looking for Ruan Shengyu. How did he end up here? And what time was it?
Jin Chengyan noticed Jono's haggard appearance. There was a large wet patch on the pillow where she had been lying, unmistakably from crying.
Jin Chengyan did not like people who wallowed in despair. Losing a loved one felt like the sky had fallen; if he didn't come, would Jono just stay in this house until the end of time?
"I'll give you five minutes to get dressed and wash up. Then we're going back to Jin Mansion."
"Huh?" Jono, just waking up, felt a bit disoriented. What was going on with Jin Chengyan?
"Still not moving? Do I need to pull back your blankets?"
"..." Jono froze for a moment. "Then you should go out first; I need to get dressed..."
Jin Chengyan quickly left the room after speaking.
In five minutes, Jono spent the first two minutes processing the fact that Jin Chengyan had come to find her. The next three minutes were a frantic rush to get dressed, wash her face in the bathroom, grab her keys, lock the door, and head downstairs, successfully getting into Jin Chengyan's car.
"Miss Qiao, you have no idea how anxious the young master has been without any news from you," A-Shan said, turning around to speak to Jono before she could even settle into her seat.
"Really?" Jono paused for a moment, glancing at Jin Chengyan beside her, feeling that something was off.
Jin Chengyan glared at A-Shan with a dark expression. "If you keep talking nonsense, I'll cut out your tongue."
A-Shan fell silent and turned back to drive, steering the black Bentley out of the neighborhood.
Taking a breath of relief, Jono finally understood that Jin Chengyan had come here because he was worried about her lack of news.
He was worried about her?
