After finishing his meal, Chuyu Xiu had his hands washed and face wiped by Jono. Jono intended to take him home, but the little guy, satisfied from eating, lay down on Jin Chengyan's bed and fell asleep!
Jono gently covered him with a blanket. The little one slept soundly, instinctively licking his lips as if he hadn't tasted such delicious food in a long time.
Watching all of this from the sofa, Jin Chengyan couldn't help but smile slightly.
As Jono stood up and turned around, he caught sight of Jin Chengyan's charming smile. Remembering how the man had been watching him earlier made Jono blush.
Jin Chengyan found it quite intriguing. This woman was truly brave when she wanted to be, even daring to flirt with him! They had shared intimate moments together, yet whenever he looked at her seriously, she would blush like a young girl.
It was a seamless transition between two different styles.
"I'm feeling a bit full; come take a walk with me," Jin Chengyan said as he put on the coat that had been left at the hospital for him. He was ready to go for a stroll.
"You didn't eat much just now..." Jono accidentally spoke the truth. "And Yuxiu is still sleeping; someone needs to watch over the child!"
Such an easygoing uncle.
"I'll have a nurse keep an eye on him," Jin Chengyan replied with a slight frown, not accustomed to being contradicted. "Come here."
At Jin Chengyan's words, Jono wilted and immediately followed him.
Jin Chengyan arranged for a nurse to watch over Chuyu Xiu in the room before heading downstairs with Jono.
In the evening, there were indeed quite a few people out for walks in the hospital garden, mostly older folks. However, Jono didn't see anyone as handsome as Jin Chengyan, who was still wearing his hospital gown.
Passersby—whether doctors, nurses, or visitors—couldn't help but glance at Jin Chengyan several times. After all, this man was strikingly handsome; even in a hospital gown paired with a trench coat, he exuded runway vibes.
"Is your leg still not healed?" Jono noticed that Jin Chengyan wasn't walking quickly. It wasn't that he was deliberately slowing down for Jono; he simply couldn't walk fast.
Jin Chengyan nodded. The incident from six years ago had caused devastating damage to his leg. It was already fortunate that he could save one leg; some minor issues were only natural.
"Do you like children?" Jin Chengyan asked her another question.
"Um, I guess it's okay," Jono replied, still staring at his legs. What kind of deep love would make him risk everything to block that iron rod?
"Jono..." Jin Chengyan called her name. She really didn't like it when he addressed her like that; whenever he added an "ah" at the end, Jono knew he had something to say to her, and it was usually not good.
She stepped forward because Jin Chengyan had stopped to wait for her.
As she approached, Jin Chengyan took her hand, and they walked together down the road.
His hand was warm and broad, holding hers made her feel particularly safe.
But Jono had been told before that a sense of security wasn't something given by others; it was something you had to earn for yourself.
"Are you hungry?" Jin Chengyan suddenly said.
"Huh?" Jono was puzzled. Why was Jin Chengyan not following the usual script?
He tightened his grip on her hand. "You didn't eat anything earlier. I'm taking you out to grab a bite."
Jono was caught off guard and directly asked, "Aren't you going to talk to me about something?" She was prepared for him to bring up what happened that afternoon; he must know about Xining's little tricks.
Instead, Jin Chengyan only asked if she was hungry.
"That little chubby guy Chuyu Xiu ate everything. I'll take you somewhere nice to eat." With that, Jin Chengyan led Jono out of the small garden of the hospital and hailed a taxi!
By the time Jono realized what was happening, they were already in the car.
"You don't have any dietary restrictions, do you?"
"No..."
"That's good!" Then, Jin Chengyan provided an address, and Jono was surprised to find out it was the place where she had attended university.
The location was a restaurant in the university town, a place Jono had visited for meals before.
Given that it was situated in a college area, the restaurant wasn't particularly upscale, and Jono couldn't understand how Jin Chengyan knew about it!
However, when the car stopped in front of the restaurant, Jin Chengyan reached for his wallet, only to realize that it wasn't in his trench coat pocket.
Jono silently took out her own wallet and used her Transportation Card to pay, and the two of them got out of the car.
"So taxis can accept cards!" Jin Chengyan exclaimed, feeling like he had discovered something new.
Jono replied, "..." That was because Young Master was taking a taxi for the first time.
"You said you would take me out to eat, but you didn't even bring your wallet," Jono said as she led Jin Chengyan into the restaurant.
Unexpectedly, Jin Chengyan wrapped his arms around Jono's waist from behind and cheekily remarked, "You're my wife; what's wrong with me using your money?"
How brazen...
Yet, Jono found herself strangely fond of that title—wife.
As they entered the restaurant, they attracted quite a few glances.
It wasn't just that Jin Chengyan was handsome; the fact that he was wearing a hospital gown while sneaking out to eat was quite reckless. And the woman beside him looked like she could still be a college student.
But somehow, they seemed to match well together.
What a peculiar pair.
"Table for two? There's a window seat available upstairs; you can sit over there," the Boss said. He was a man with a beer belly. Jono remembered him from her previous visits; he looked exactly the same now. Clearly, after serving so many customers, the Boss had forgotten all about Jono.
When Boss saw Jin Chengyan, his eyes lit up. "Hey, it's you, Mr. Jin! Long time no see!" Boss greeted Jin Chengyan warmly.
Jin Chengyan shook hands with Boss.
"You're sick and still came in wearing a hospital gown? You shouldn't be eating such greasy food when you're unwell!"
Indeed, this place was a barbecue restaurant, and Jono couldn't understand why Jin Chengyan would come here to eat.
"My wife was craving food, so I brought her out," Jin Chengyan said with a doting expression.
Jono felt confused; it wasn't her idea to come here for food.
"You're married! Congratulations! Today's meal is on me, consider it your wedding gift!" Boss was quite generous, leading Jin Chengyan and Jono upstairs. He asked Jono if there was anything she didn't like and then went downstairs to have the chef start grilling.
Throughout the entire process, Jono was bewildered.
"You know the boss here...?" Jin Chengyan remarked, surprised at how widely connected he seemed.
"There are many things about me that you don't know," Jono replied.
The two of them knew very little about each other.
Even though Jin Chengyan had all the information about Jono from birth until now, data is lifeless while people are dynamic; her habits would change over time.
What was most difficult to grasp was the heart of that person.
What was in that person's heart could not be revealed through data.
"Are you willing to let me know?" Jono countered.
Jin Chengyan did not answer. "The grilled scallops here are delicious; you should eat more. I'll just have congee."
Such a clumsy change of topic was not lost on Jono.
Jin Chengyan could engage in the most intimate activities with her, they could become one, yet the moment Jono brought up matters of the heart, even just a little, Jin Chengyan would find all sorts of reasons to skip the subject.
He led her in circles, never addressing the main point.
Before long, a plate of barbecued skewers arrived in front of Jono, served by Boss, vibrant and aromatic, while Jin Chengyan had only a bowl of plain congee before him.
"How did you know my leg is not good?" Jin Chengyan finally broached the topic.
Jono, while eating barbecue without a care for appearances, holding the skewers and munching away with some cumin at the corner of her mouth, paused when she heard Jin Chengyan's question.
Clearly, she would not reveal to Jin Chengyan that Xining had detailed information about his injury from six years ago.
"I saw it online. Even though it's been so long since your injury, if you search for it, there are still plenty of reports. You have to believe that the internet is a magical place!" Jono said confidently.
Jin Chengyan scoffed lightly. "Do you believe everything you read online?"
Back then, people like Jin Chengyan and Yan Beiting could not completely suppress the news about that incident. Ruan Shengyu was an outsider, and since the Jin Family wanted to distance themselves from Ruan Shengyu, they naturally never mentioned him.
"Truth and lies are mixed together; if you take it seriously, you'll lose," Jono replied after a brief glance. "But if your leg really is suffering from the aftermath of Ruan Shengyu's actions, then I understand why you're so desperate to win her over now."
"Oh?" It was the first time someone analyzed Jin Chengyan's thoughts this way.
"Perverted thoughts!" Jono teased playfully, tilting her head.
Jin Chengyan did not bother to argue with Jono; he simply said, "You don't understand."
Jono did not press further. There were many things she did not understand; did she need to pry into every single one?
She put down the two bamboo skewers and said earnestly, "Jin Chengyan, from now on, you must never tell me about your past. As a petty wife, I will get angry."
Jin Chengyan took a tissue and wiped Jono's mouth.
It was such a simple gesture that all of Jono's earlier righteous indignation faded away.
Truly, when someone treats her a little better, she becomes lightheaded and carefree.
Since earlier at the hospital, she felt the atmosphere was utterly delightful. She watched him eat with Chuyu Xiu, then the two of them strolled together before heading to the restaurant.
What wonderful memories!
Jin Chengyan quietly watched Jono eat.
In fact, earlier in the hospital garden, when he called her name, what he wanted to say was probably not about having a meal!
He just didn't expect that the words would come out like that.
Perhaps what Jono said about living well these past few years wasn't a bad suggestion after all.
But if he really did that, it would be unfair to Jono.
So he preferred to lead her in circles rather than linger on the main point for even half a minute.
...
After dinner, Jin Chengyan suggested taking a walk to aid digestion. Clearly, he hadn't eaten much all evening; it was Jono who needed to digest her food.
However, seeing Jin Chengyan dressed so lightly in just a hospital gown underneath his thick coat made her worry about him getting cold.
Jono took off her bright red scarf and wrapped it around herself; it complemented her black outfit perfectly.
"If you catch a cold, your mom will definitely say I didn't take good care of you!" Jono wrapped the scarf around Jin Chengyan's neck twice.
As for Jono herself, after taking off the scarf, her neck felt empty.
She walked quickly, and soon enough, she wasn't cold anymore.
Jin Chengyan watched Jono walking ahead, feeling a mix of emotions he couldn't quite describe. He stepped forward, pulled out half of the scarf, and wrapped it around Jono's neck.
From a distance, they looked like two people connected at the hip.
But even in such closeness, walking through the university town, they didn't feel awkward.
Couples even more affectionate than them passed by occasionally, sharing kisses when the mood struck.
They were just like any ordinary couple, enjoying their post-meal time together.
Jin Chengyan couldn't remember the last time he had such a leisurely moment.
Thinking of this, he pulled Jono a little closer to him.
This girl always brought him the feeling of being in love, making his heart, which had settled into calmness, start racing again.
"Stay with me at the hospital tonight and go home tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Jono instinctively frowned. "Do you really want to think about that every day? Don't you feel tired? Is it lonely in the hospital?"
It had only been a few days since they last met, and now he wanted her to sleep in the hospital! It was a hospital after all; the soundproofing was terrible!
To her surprise, what came back from Jin Chengyan was an uncontrollable laugh.
"I didn't say anything; it's your mind that's impure," Jin Chengyan teased. "Or maybe during these days I wasn't around, you've been thinking about that."
He whispered softly in Jono's ear, the warmth of the heating making Jono feel a tickle at his neck, prompting him to push him away. This man had no shame, talking about such things in public!
"Jin Chengyan, you've gone too far!"
"Too far? What does that even mean?" He pressed further, his lips brushing against Jono's cheek.
"You’re sleeping alone in the hospital! If you can't handle it, just call a nurse. There are so many beautiful nurses; who knows how long they've been eyeing you!" Jono snapped, pushing Jin Chengyan away in frustration.
But the scarf was still wrapped around both their necks, preventing her from retreating too far. It was truly annoying.
However, Jin Chengyan was serious!
He yanked on the scarf, pulling Jono closer.
"Jono, are you really letting your husband sleep with other women? How generous of you! If you don’t mind, I could just go back and sleep with that nurse who gave me my shot!" He knew exactly how to hit Jono's soft spot.
"You dare!" Jono grabbed his collar and said fiercely.
