The greatest advantage of feeling unwell in a hospital is that one can be rushed straight to the emergency room. Jin Chengyan picked up Jono and glanced back at Yan Beiting.
He was worried about Jono, and Jin Chengyan knew it.
“She will be fine,” Jin Chengyan said, attempting to reassure Yan Beiting.
The medical equipment by the bedside had been fluctuating violently, but upon seeing Jono in discomfort and with Jin Chengyan's calming presence, it began to stabilize. He had a special ability to soothe those around him.
Yan Beiting understood that Jin Chengyan would not let anything happen to Jono, so he felt relieved as he watched Jin Chengyan carry Jono toward the emergency room.
Jono was particularly sensitive to pain. When she felt a sharp ache in her lower abdomen, her nerves were on high alert. Despite being in Jin Chengyan's arms, she clutched his shirt tightly.
“Please, I want to have a child…” she pleaded, knowing that once she entered the operating room, all decisions would rest with Jin Chengyan; he could do as he wished.
“Okay, I promise you, but you must promise me that you will stay healthy!” Jin Chengyan's bottom line was that Jono had to survive; otherwise, he wouldn't care about having children at all.
With Jin Chengyan's affirmative response, Jono felt a sense of relief and no longer clutched his shirt as desperately as before.
“Thank you…”
What more was there to say at this moment?
Jin Chengyan handed Jono over to the doctors and instructed them to do everything possible to save both the mother and the child.
As for his own anxiety, Jin Chengyan had never experienced the feeling of waiting outside the delivery room while his wife was inside laboring.
But now, his anxious state was no less than that of an expectant father. He frequently glanced at the lights outside the operating room, uncertain of when the surgery would end or when Jono would be out of danger.
Should he contact a more authoritative doctor at this point?
Or should he seek the gods and pray?
Although Jin Chengyan did not believe in such things, what if it worked? He decided to give it a try.
He turned his gaze toward the western sky, clasped his hands together, and closed his eyes slightly, praying earnestly: If Jono and the child could be safe, he would be willing to sacrifice ten years, even twenty years of his life. All he wanted was to have her by his side for the rest of his days. Please grant me this small and ordinary dream.
A powerful CEO who navigated the business world with ease and decisiveness was now resorting to prayer; he truly felt helpless. For Jono, he was willing to do anything!
Perhaps heaven heard his sincere prayer. Two hours later, the doctor emerged from the operating room with a relaxed expression.
"Sir, your wife is temporarily out of danger, and the child has been successfully saved. However, she is quite weak and will need proper care moving forward; otherwise, both mother and child could be at risk. Please avoid any stimulation for her."
"Thank you!" Jin Chengyan sighed in relief; as long as Jono was safe, that was all that mattered!
Soon after, Jono was wheeled out of the operating room, still unconscious. The nurse explained that the anesthesia had not yet worn off; once it did, she would wake up just in time for a good night's sleep. She must be exhausted.
Jin Chengyan followed the bed into the hospital room and stood vigil by Jono's bedside.
Those three hours had felt like he had walked through the gates of hell; something he cherished most nearly slipped away from him in that moment. How could he not worry?
The lights were dimmed to their lowest setting as Jin Chengyan kept watch over Jono.
The tranquility was suddenly interrupted by a phone call.
He quickly silenced it and stepped out of the room to answer.
It was Melancholy calling.
Previously, they had parted ways unhappily due to Jono's issues, but after all, she was his mother. He blamed her for being cruel to Jono, yet when it came to Jono, he still defended his mother, asking Jono not to hold it against her.
"Ayan, I know a very experienced traditional Chinese medicine doctor who specializes in caring for pregnant women. She was already retired, but I asked her to come help take care of Jono. Once Jono's health improves, you both can return from Shanghai and stay at home. It will also allow us to take care of her. I don't think you can manage it all by yourself," Melancholy finally relented; what other choice did she have?
Could she really interfere in her son's marriage at such an age? Did she really want to see her grandchild in such a precarious situation?
In any case, Melancholy couldn't do that.
Jin Chengyan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing his mother's words. "Thank you, Mom."
Even if Melancholy didn't intend for him to be with Jono, he would still be with Jono regardless of her opposition. But now that she was willing to accept it and would also take good care of Jono, that was the best outcome.
After hanging up the phone, Jin Chengyan leaned against the corridor wall, reflecting on his earlier conversation with the doctor.
The doctor had said that if Jono's body was properly cared for, having children afterward shouldn't be a problem, though there were still risks involved. With the traditional Chinese medicine doctor Melancholy had found, if Jono started proper treatment now, there shouldn't be any issues.
He hoped there wouldn't be any problems!
Taking a deep breath, he turned and walked toward Yan Beiting's hospital room.
Earlier, when Jono had an incident, he had focused solely on taking care of Jono and had forgotten that Yan Beiting was still in this hospital.
He had only intended to check on him; as long as he was okay, that would suffice. He hadn't expected Yan Beiting to still be awake in the middle of the night.
The two old friends smiled at each other simultaneously.
That smile was a testament to the tacit understanding built through years of friendship.
Jin Chengyan sat by Yan Beiting's hospital bed and said, "I'm glad you're still alive; otherwise, I wouldn't know how to explain it to Jono."
Seeing Jin Chengyan like this, Yan Beiting guessed that Jono must be fine. He didn't ask, knowing that his current position made it inappropriate to do so.
"But you, why did you hide your illness from me? Don't say it's because I would worry or feel guilty. Do you know that now that I know, I feel even more guilty! What if you had really collapsed and died on the street today? You're the hero, and all the good things fall to you while I get stuck with the bad! Can you not put me in such a predicament?" Fortunately, Yan Beiting was okay now.
Yan Beiting smiled slightly. Due to his physical condition, he couldn't express much more.
"Aren't I still alive?" he said lightly. "I was planning to be your best man. If I had kicked the bucket this early, how could I fulfill that role?"
Jin Chengyan patted Yan Beiting's shoulder in gratitude.
Both of them were the kind of people who could understand each other with just a glance; everything was unspoken between them.
Speaking of being a best man reminded Jin Chengyan that he owed Jono a wedding. It had been postponed for far too long.
Seeing the expression on Jin Chengyan's face, Yan Beiting guessed what he was thinking.
"Give her a wedding. She's always wanted to wear a wedding dress and marry you beautifully."
Jin Chengyan knew this all too well. Ever since Jono returned, he had been planning it but had been delayed by various matters. Now it could finally be put on the agenda.
"It seems you already have some ideas," Yan Beiting said, feeling a bit envious. Jin Chengyan could openly be with Jono and give her happiness.
"Keep it a secret." Jin Chengyan wanted to give Jono a grand wedding, making her the happiest bride in the world!
Half a month later, Jono was discharged from the hospital, and Yan Beiting had also recovered enough to be temporarily released.
Jin Chengyan and Jono returned to Qin Cheng first, while Yan Beiting stayed behind to wait for Ye Yun, as there were still matters to attend to.
The weather in May had already begun to warm up. After returning to Qin Cheng, Jono stayed at Jin Family Villa, where Melancholy had arranged for a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to provide personal care.
Throughout May, Jin Chengyan often left early and returned late. When asked what he was doing, he would not answer.
At the end of May, he mysteriously invited Jono to the largest Natural Lake in Qin Cheng. Once they arrived, Jin Chengyan unexpectedly drove away!
Jono felt a bit bewildered as she stood in front of the open villa gate and walked in without knowing why.
Inside, she discovered a white wedding dress displayed in the living room, illuminated by the dazzling lights from above.
Turning around, she saw Yan Beiting standing behind her.
"Hurry and put on the wedding dress. Today, I will stand in for your father and give you to Jin Chengyan," his deep and hoarse voice resonated. Jono felt as if she were dreaming.
"How could this be? Why did you all keep it from me?" Jono was touched and somewhat at a loss. The wedding dress behind her was stunningly beautiful, and Yan Beiting in front of her looked incredibly handsome!
She knew that Jin Chengyan was waiting for her; they were going to have a wedding—a wedding she had always dreamed of.
In the blink of an eye, Jono changed into the wedding dress.
At that moment, Yan Beiting felt relieved; after all, he was the first person to see Jono in a wedding dress, even before Jin Chengyan.
"You're beautiful," Yan Beiting sincerely praised.
"Thank you."
To get from the villa to the wedding venue, all one had to do was walk out the back door of the villa, which faced the entire Natural Lake. A long Red Carpet was laid by the lakeside, flanked by piles of flowers. Friends and relatives she recognized stood there, and as the background music began to play, she saw Jin Chengyan standing at the end of the Red Carpet.
She had imagined many times what it would be like to wear a pure white wedding dress, standing on that bright red carpet, walking towards him and placing her hand in his. Now, it had finally come true.
It was a typical wedding routine that every couple must experience to feel complete. They exchanged Wedding Rings, shared a kiss, and Jono tossed the bouquet... They radiated happiness by the lake!
Then, Jin Chengyan embraced Jono and whispered softly in her ear, "For a lifetime, just the two of us."
Jono turned to look at Jin Chengyan; in that moment, no words were needed—just a connection through their eyes, and everything felt right.
With lovers, family, and friends around them, everything was perfect.
Eight months later, Jono gave birth to a baby boy in the hospital, both mother and child safe.
That same year, Yan Beiting went to Canada for treatment. His identity remained undisclosed; only Jono and Jin Chengyan knew.
Jono believed that everyone around her would find happiness.
