Who is he?
What is his purpose?
What is my relationship with him?
Countless questions bubbled up in my mind, filling me with panic and fear.
I instinctively glanced at the man in the driver's seat, but all I could see in the rearview mirror was his angular jawline.
I took a few deep breaths to calm myself and then tried to ask in a natural tone, "Boss, do you think this outfit is suitable for meeting the client?"
"Cut the act," the man suddenly smirked with a hint of mockery. "If your IQ were normal, you would have realized something was off by now. But looking at you, I guess your IQ isn't that high. Luckily, I found you before Yu Xia; otherwise... heh heh..."
I forced a dry laugh. Are kidnappers really this straightforward nowadays?
"I say I'm here to help you. Do you believe me?" the man asked.
I shook my head. Only a fool would believe you!
"That's fine," he replied nonchalantly with a smile. "Let me introduce myself. I am Li Tiancheng from the Identity Theft Case unit, investigating a theft case. I need your cooperation."
"Can you show me your badge?"
"I can't, but you have to trust me," Li Tiancheng said, shaking his head. "If I wanted to harm you, you wouldn't even be able to touch your phone right now. Now, please remove your finger from the dial pad."
I chuckled lightly and deleted the three digits "110" from the screen.
"What do you want me to do?" I was ready to give in.
"It's simple, just answer a few questions for me." Li Tiancheng slowed down the car as he entered the ramp. "By the way, I'm aware that your body is experiencing some issues."
A jolt of surprise shot through me.
He knows something!
"How do you know that?" I asked eagerly. "What should I do to…"
"Relax, just answer the questions honestly," Li Tiancheng said as he exited the overpass and stopped at a red light. "I told you, I'm here to help you."
"Alright, go ahead and ask." I let out a breath, suddenly feeling a sense of calm wash over me.
As long as I answered truthfully, I could return to my original timeline. This deal wasn't too bad.
"When was the last time Yu Xia contacted you, and what did he say?"
Xiao Yu? But he only sent me a text message, right?
"At 18:45 this evening, we monitored a phone call between him and you, which is why he sent you that text message."
So that text message was from him. But the problem was, even if I had spoken with Xiao Yu, it was another "me" who answered the call; how would I know what was said?
"I don't know," I shook my head.
Li Tiancheng suddenly turned his head, frowning at me as if suppressing a surge of anger. "Don't lie to me!"
"But I really—"
Before I could finish my sentence, a roar of an engine surged from afar, quickly approaching, followed by a violent crash and the sharp sound of shattering glass. The vehicle shook violently, tumbling over before finally landing upside down.
I was disoriented, my vision blurred.
In the haze, I saw a tall figure walking towards me, seemingly playing with something in his hand.
I struggled to lift my face, and as he drew closer, I finally recognized his features.
It was a familiar, lean face that I knew all too well.
"Xiao...?" I called out uncertainly.
He turned towards me at the sound of my voice, pondering for a moment before raising an eyebrow.
"When you called me earlier, you referred to me as Asha."
