I put down my phone, turned it off, and went to bed. The next day, I didn’t go to work. I posted a message online, canceling the engagement banquet with Xiao An.

What bothered me was Huanhuan, the cat that Xiao An and Liu Lan raised together. Huanhuan stood between us like a thorn, obstructing the connection between me and Xiao An. I could never replace its position in Xiao An's heart.
If that’s the case, it would be better to part ways sooner rather than later. Xiao An had been pleading for reconciliation while I had never relented. I rested at home for a few days before returning to work.

I trembled as I called Xiao An. "Jianjian is missing!"
Xiao An's tone was calm. "I just gave it a little punishment. After all, it's a mix of wild dog and domestic dog; returning to nature is the best place for it."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "What?"
Huanhuan was the cat of Xiao An and Liu Lan, so they couldn't bear to let it go. Jianjian was the dog my parents had raised; how could Xiao An say it could just be released? Besides, Jianjian was a mixed breed—how would it survive in the wild?
I shook with anger. "Xiao An, you can't bear to let Huanhuan go, but you say Jianjian can just be released? Who do you really consider your dog?"
"Zhou Yun, stop making a fuss. Huanhuan is Liu Lan's cat, and Jianjian is our shared dog. What are you really upset about?"
I hung up the phone, my heart racing and my hands and feet cold. Jianjian was still in the neighborhood; I had to find it immediately! I called the property management, checked the surveillance footage, spoke with security, and contacted dog recovery teams... I offered a hefty reward, desperate for them to help me find Jianjian as soon as possible.
After doing all this, I collapsed onto the sofa, closed my eyes, and sent a message to Xiao An.
“Xiao An, let’s break up.”
After a long while, Xiao An replied, “Zhou Yun, I was just keeping Jianjian outside to teach it a lesson. You don’t need to be this angry, do you?”
“You can pretend you didn’t hear anything.”
I scoffed, deleted all the messages in the chat, and then went to change my clothes.
Before opening the door, I took out my phone and sent my location to the dog rescue team. “Please come to **Building** **Unit** in the community.”
When I opened the door, Xiao An and Huanhuan’s belongings were still inside. I took some photos and sent them to my contact, instructing him to throw everything out. “Not a single item left; throw it all away or burn it. I’ll reimburse you for whatever it costs.”
“Miss, what’s going on?”
“I broke up with him. I don’t want to see his things anymore.”
My contact arrived quickly. He directed his team to clean every corner of my place, then moved all of Xiao An and Huanhuan’s belongings out and dumped them at the security office downstairs.
