"Yes," I said.
"Shen Ziyun," Chen Junfeng said, "I was wrong, but it shouldn't lead to me..."
At that moment, my dad returned.
He walked up to Chen Junfeng with his phone in hand.
"Take a look for yourself!" my dad said.
Chen Junfeng took the phone.
On the video was footage of what had happened at school. It turned out that the recent events had already been uploaded online by well-meaning individuals. Now, discussions were rampant, with many claiming that our school was poorly managed and unfit to teach other people's children.
"I didn't expect things to escalate like this," Chen Junfeng said. "I mishandled the situation, but you can't expel me over this, can you?"
"Coach Chen," my dad replied, "I have doubts about your management and handling abilities, but who hired Lu Yueyue?"
"It was..." Chen Junfeng glanced at Lu Yueyue, "Lu Yueyue interviewed for the position."
"Who allowed her to start working?" my dad asked.
"It was..." Chen Junfeng looked at Lu Yueyue again but remained silent.
"I asked for the job myself," Lu Yueyue said. "Coach Chen felt sorry for me when he saw I couldn't find work and let me come on board."
"Uncle," Lu Yueyue squeezed out a couple of tears. "My brother and I lost our parents when we were young. We managed to finish high school with the help of relatives. My brother is now in middle school, and I have no job. Life has been really tough..."
"Lu Yueyue," I interjected, "the hardships you and your brother face are not our school's concern. This is Fitness School, not a charity organization; rules are rules."
"Chen Junfeng," my dad continued, "I don't want to fire you. You and Lu Yueyue should resign voluntarily."
"What?" Chen Junfeng asked.
"The apartment you're living in also belongs to my family," I said. "You need to move out."
"What did you say?" Chen Junfeng asked. "Isn't that apartment rented from you?"
"It was rented to you by me," I said, "but the house is mine."
"Impossible!" Lu Yueyue exclaimed. "Chen Junfeng said this house belongs to his dad, and his dad gave it to him!"
"When my parents divorced, the house was awarded to my mom," I replied. "He always thought it was his dad's, but it has always been my mom's."
"Chen Junfeng," Lu Yueyue's face turned pale, "didn't you say the house was your dad's?"
"I always thought it was," Chen Junfeng admitted. "But I later found out that the house is under my mom's name."
"Chen Junfeng, are you trying to ruin me?" Lu Yueyue asked.
"Don't speak so harshly," Chen Junfeng replied. "How could I possibly harm you?"
"Enough!" my dad interjected. "You two, sign your resignation and leave!"
"Okay."
After they signed their resignation letters, they left.
After their departure, Chen Junfeng kept sending me messages, calling me, even showing up at my doorstep, begging for forgiveness. I really didn't want to deal with this issue, so I agreed to meet him at a café.
"Ziyun," Chen Junfeng said, "I'm sorry."
"You don't need to apologize to me," I replied. "You lied to me, your mom lied to me, your dad lied to me, your sister lied to me; even Lu Yueyue deceived me. Not one of you is good!"
"Ziyun, I was wrong," Chen Junfeng said. "But I'm also a victim."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Lu Yueyue deceived everyone," Chen Junfeng explained. "She doesn't have no parents; her brother isn't really her brother—he's her own son!"
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"She used to date a rich second-generation heir," Chen Junfeng continued. "She got pregnant and wanted to marry into wealth using her child as leverage, but she ended up being dumped by that heir. A month ago, when she found out I became the principal and that I'm a resident of Rose Garden, she started planning to get close to me."
"So what?" I pressed.
"Ziyun," Chen Junfeng pleaded, "I was wrong. Can you forgive me? Let's be good together again, okay?"
"Impossible," I said. "Every decision I've made, I won't turn back on."
"Ziyun..." Chen Junfeng said.
"Don't say anything more," I replied. "If you contact me again, I'll call the police."
"Ziyun..." Chen Junfeng looked at me in pain.
"Lu Yueyue deceived you; go find her," I said. "Don't look for me anymore."
I turned and walked away.
I heard Chen Junfeng shout, "Lu Yueyue, I want you to pay the price!"
The next morning, the property management called me, saying someone had hung a banner at the entrance of the community, accusing me of being a third party in a relationship and having an abortion.
I called my lawyer and reported it to the police.
When I went downstairs, I saw Dingding holding the banner, loudly proclaiming my "crimes" through a megaphone. Behind him stood an elderly man from the community who was responsible for cleaning, banging a gong.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Hmph!" Dingding replied. "Who told you to make my sister unhappy? I'll make sure you don't have it easy either!"
When the police arrived, Dingding immediately wilted at the sight of them.
" Dingding, what are you doing?" the officer asked.
"I... I..." Dingding stammered.
"What do you mean 'I'?" the officer said. "Come on, you're coming with me to the police station."
"Officer," Dingding pleaded, "I was wrong; I won't do it again."
"Now you realize your mistake?" the officer said. "It's too late! At your young age, instead of learning good things, you choose this path. Just wait for your guardian!"
"Officer!" Dingding cried out, bursting into tears. "I was wrong; please forgive me this time. I promise I won't do it again."
The officer ignored him and took him and others back to the police station.
