Although Anthon told himself to stay rational, his phone vibrated again, displaying a message from Brother Jie. His heart raced, and his fingers trembled as he opened the message:
"I can sense that you're feeling down... even though we're miles apart. If you're okay, just let me know?"
These words felt like a warm current, striking directly at Anthon's heart. Brother Jie seemed to always catch on to his emotional shifts; even from afar, he could still feel Anthon's unease and confusion. Anthon hadn't expected Brother Jie to be so sensitive, to guess his feelings so accurately.
He reminded himself to remain composed and not let Brother Jie's sweet words sway his resolve. However, the inner conflict and anxiety made it hard for him to ignore such caring messages. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but his hand couldn't help but reach for the phone.
"Brother Jie, I'm fine," Anthon typed, his fingers slightly shaking. After a moment of hesitation, he deleted that line and changed it to: "Thank you for your concern; I'm doing well."
He knew this response would neither seem too cold nor make Brother Jie think he was completely indifferent. Anthon pressed send, still filled with complex emotions. He didn't want to get caught up in Brother Jie's sweet talk again, yet he couldn't entirely dismiss this concern and affection.
The phone vibrated again shortly after, and Brother Jie's reply popped up: "That's good. Remember to take care of yourself; if you need anything, just reach out."
Anthon read those words and felt a flicker of warmth in his heart, but he knew he couldn't let these words lead him around anymore. He took a deep breath, set the phone down, and tried to focus on the present moment. However, it wasn't long before the phone vibrated again, showing another message from Brother Jie:
"How's your relationship with Haohao? Have the conflicts been resolved?"
Seeing this message stirred a slight annoyance within Anthon. He felt Brother Jie's concern was too intrusive, as if he were deliberately probing into the relationship between him and Haohao. Frustrated, he quickly replied:
"It's because of you meddling that I accidentally said your name in my sleep!"
The moment the message was sent, Anthon regretted it. He realized that such a reply was tantamount to admitting his feelings for Brother Jie. He hurriedly clicked to retract the message, his fingers trembling, but the status displayed told him that Brother Jie had already seen it.
His phone vibrated again, and Brother Jie's message popped up: "Haha, Anthon, since you even call my name in your dreams, why not just admit that you like me?"
Anthon stared at the message, feeling a wave of irritation and shame wash over him. He knew he had fallen into Brother Jie's teasing trap, but he was unwilling to give in easily. Gripping his phone tightly, his heart raced as he hesitated for a moment before replying, "Stop talking nonsense!"
Soon, Brother Jie's reply came through: "Come on, Anthon, just admit it. You clearly like me; why are you being so stubborn?"
Anthon's cheeks flushed slightly. He bit his lip, a glimmer of defiance flashing in his eyes. He knew Brother Jie was teasing him, but he didn't want to let him win so easily. Taking a deep breath, he typed back, "I don't! Don't be so full of yourself!"
Brother Jie's message appeared right after: "Really? Then why did you call my name in your dream? And you clearly care about me, don't you?"
Reading those provocative words made Anthon feel both angry and helpless. He knew he couldn't completely deny his feelings for Brother Jie, but he also didn't want to admit them easily. He replied, "I told you, stop talking nonsense!"
Brother Jie seemed to enjoy this teasing game and sent another message: "Alright then, let's leave it at that. But when you decide to admit it one day, remember to tell me."
Anthon looked at the message and felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him. He knew he couldn't easily escape Brother Jie's teasing and influence, but he also didn't want to acknowledge his feelings at this moment. Taking a deep breath, he decided not to respond to Brother Jie's messages for now and let himself calm down.
At that moment, Anthon thought about how this wasn't just a time for love talks. The darkness and silence in the room made him feel suffocated, and what troubled him even more were the cold glances from Da Shewan and Pig's Feet, along with their lewd looks directed at Haohao. These strange behaviors made Anthon feel extremely uneasy; he realized that the situation before him might be more dangerous than he had imagined.
Anthon knew that relying solely on himself would probably not be enough, especially since he had never encountered such a situation before. Although he could sense the dangerous atmosphere around him, he lacked experience in dealing with these complex scenarios. Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself down and began to think about his next course of action.
Suddenly, Brother Jie's image flashed in his mind. Although he was someone who made Anthon feel both love and hate—a notorious playboy—he was also an ex-gang member who might have ways to offer some help. Brother Jie's experiences and tactics from his time in the gang could potentially assist Anthon in facing these looming threats.
Anthon hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to message Brother Jie for help. He knew he could no longer face everything alone, especially with Haohao potentially in danger. He picked up his phone and quickly typed:
"Brother Jie, I need your help with something very important. The situation is a bit complicated, and Haohao and I might be in danger."
After sending the message, Anthon felt a wave of tension and anticipation wash over him. He knew this was a risky decision, but he had no other choice. He needed Brother Jie’s assistance to protect himself and Haohao.
Soon, his phone vibrated, and Brother Jie's reply appeared: "Anthon, what's going on? What happened?"
Anthon quickly responded: "Da Shewan and Pig's Feet have been looking at Haohao in a strange way, and their behavior is making me uneasy. I think we might be in a dangerous situation and need your help."
