As night fell and the lights began to shine, Lin Yue stepped into the upscale restaurant, dressed in a simple black evening gown, following closely behind Lu Tingxiao. The interior was lavishly decorated, with crystal chandeliers casting a soft glow, every detail exuding sophistication and elegance.
Lu Tingxiao led the way, while Lin Yue trailed behind, acutely aware of the gazes directed at her—some curious, some admiring, and others envious. She took a deep breath, reminding herself to stay composed.
Suddenly, a familiar figure caught her eye—it was Jiang Chen. He was seated at a nearby table, his gaze fixed intently on Lin Yue. Her heart sank; she hadn’t expected to run into her ex-boyfriend here.
Jiang Chen stood up and slowly approached Lin Yue, a playful smile curling at the corners of his mouth. " Lin Yue, long time no see. You still look as stunning as ever."
Suppressing her displeasure, Lin Yue replied coldly, "Jiang Chen, there's nothing to discuss between us."
Lu Tingxiao sensed the tension in the air. He turned and positioned himself protectively in front of Lin Yue, his eyes cold as he stared at Jiang Chen. "Mr. Jiang, this is a business dinner. If you cannot maintain your manners, please leave."
Jiang Chen's expression changed as he glanced between Lu Tingxiao and Lin Yue. With a huff of disdain, he turned and walked away.
Lu Tingxiao turned back to Lin Yue and said softly, "Don't pay him any mind; let's continue."
Lin Yue nodded, feeling an extra surge of gratitude towards Lu Tingxiao.
Inside the restaurant, candlelight flickered as elegant music flowed through the air.
Lin Yue suppressed the displeasure in her heart and coldly replied, "Jiang Chen, there’s nothing to discuss between us."
Lu Tingxiao sensed the unusual atmosphere. He turned and stood in front of Lin Yue, his gaze icy as he looked at Jiang Chen. "Mr. Jiang, this is a business dinner. If you cannot maintain your manners, then please leave."
Jiang Chen's expression changed. He glanced at Lu Tingxiao, then at Lin Yue, and finally snorted coldly before turning to leave. But just then, he suddenly turned back, a hint of threat in his voice. " Lin Yue, do you think you can escape? Our game has only just begun."
A wave of unease surged within Lin Yue, causing her to tremble slightly.
Jiang Chen's appearance was an unexpected complication in her plans. She needed to find clues about her sister quickly and leave this place to shake off Jiang Chen's entanglement.
She knew that Jiang Chen would not let her go easily.
Her face turned pale, and Lu Tingxiao noticed it. While driving, he inexplicably asked, "Is he your ex-boyfriend?"
Lin Yue remained silent.
She understood that everything she said would be considered as if it were spoken by her sister Lin Wan'er, so she had to be cautious.
Seeing her unresponsive, Lu Tingxiao simply handed her a blanket.
"It gets chilly at night."
Lin Yue felt a strange sense of joy in her heart as she looked at the man's perfect profile. She knew that her sister was hopelessly in love with him.
Since childhood, she had always let her sister have the best of everything. This man was not someone she could take away.
