Just then, Lin Yue's phone rang. She glanced at the screen and saw an unknown number. She answered the call, and a familiar voice came through. "Lin Yue, it's me, Jiang Chen." His tone carried a hint of urgency.
Lin Yue's heart tightened; she knew this was trouble. "Jiang Chen, what do you want?" Her voice held a note of caution.
Jiang Chen's voice echoed on the other end, laced with a subtle threat. "Lin Yue, I know you're at Lu Tingxiao's house. I have something to tell you." His tone was commanding and left no room for doubt.
Lin Yue felt a heaviness in her chest; she recognized this as a challenge. "Jiang Chen, what do you want?" Her voice was firm.
Jiang Chen continued, his voice dripping with smugness. "Lin Yue, I know your secret. I know you're not Lin Wan." There was an unmistakable threat in his words.
Lin Yue's heart sank again; she understood the stakes. "Jiang Chen, what do you want?" she repeated, her resolve unwavering.
His voice came through again, filled with arrogance. "What I want is simple: I want you." His tone was authoritative.
Lin Yue felt the weight of his words; this was indeed a challenge. "Jiang Chen, I won't let you succeed," she declared firmly.
On the other end of the line, Jiang Chen let out a cold laugh before hanging up. Lin Yue's heart plummeted; she realized she was in a crisis that required careful navigation.
As night deepened, Lin Yue left the Lu Family Mansion, her mind swirling with unease and uncertainty. She knew she had to handle Jiang Chen's threat cautiously while also searching for clues about her sister.
Her footsteps echoed in the empty parking lot, each sound sharp and clear. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, blocking her path. Lin Yue's heart raced as she recognized him—it was Jiang Chen.
“ Lin Yue, we need to talk.” Jiang Chen's voice carried an undeniable firmness.
Lin Yue tried to sidestep him, but Jiang Chen pressed closer. “Jiang Chen, we’ve broken up. There’s nothing to discuss.”
Jiang Chen grasped Lin Yue's arm, urgency lacing his tone. “Lin Wan, I know I was wrong. Give me a chance, let’s start over.”
Lin Yue was taken aback that he called her Lin Wan'er, yet his grip on her remained unyielding.
She pulled away from Jiang Chen's hold with force and replied coldly, “Jiang Chen, you’ve hurt me too deeply. I won’t give you another chance.”
At that moment, a bright light shone down as Lu Tingxiao's car came to a stop beside them. He stepped out, his gaze icy as he looked at Jiang Chen. “Mr. Jiang, let her go.”
Jiang Chen glanced at Lu Tingxiao and then at Lin Yue before reluctantly stepping back.
But before leaving, he threw out a threat. “Do you think this is over? I will expose your secrets and leave you with nothing.”
Lu Tingxiao walked over to Lin Yue, concern etched on his face. “Are you okay?”
Lin Yue shook her head, the fear within her gradually dissipating. “Thank you, Mr. Lu.”
Lu Tingxiao gently patted her shoulder, signaling for her to get in the car. “I’ll take you home.”
Inside the car, Lin Yue's hand inadvertently brushed against the USB Flash Drive in her pocket, causing her heart to race. This small USB Flash Drive was something Jiang Chen had slipped into her pocket moments ago.
