"Why do you have their photos at home?"
"What photos?"
"This one."
The female officer pulled out six photographs, each featuring six muscular men.
"I don't know; maybe I found them online when they ordered takeout before," she replied. "Sometimes customers have special requests and need images, so it's easier to look online."
Seeing that Yue Qing's answers were airtight, the officer struggled to find a better angle for her investigation. She glanced around and noticed a locked study.
"Why is this room locked?"
"Oh, it's nothing. Just some clutter. It's too messy; I didn't want you to laugh at it."
"Open it!"
"I lost the key; I can't unlock it."
"Ms. Yue Qing, it would be best if you cooperate with us, or we might suspect you have done something in this house."
Yue Qing remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking up.
"Fine, I'm tired. If you have any questions, talk to my lawyer."
A flicker of unease crossed Yue Qing's face, but she quickly lowered her head. When she raised it again, her expression was back to normal.
"Follow me."
She led them to the study door and took out a key to unlock it. Inside, the room was filled with a chaotic assortment of items. The female officer carefully examined the space but found no evidence. In the corner stood a large plastic box filled with Liu Juan's paints and artworks.
"Is Liu Juan studying painting?"
"Yes, she has wanted to be a painter since she was little."
The female officer frowned but didn't say anything more.
The two officers surveyed the entire living room but found no evidence.
They could only turn their attention to the study.
The female officer walked in again, this time examining everything closely, picking up each item to inspect it thoroughly.
A hint of tension flashed across Yue Qing's Mother's face but quickly faded.
The female officer picked up an admission notice, and Liu Juan's name was clearly written on it.
However, faint footprints were visible on the paper.
"Whose footprints are these?"
"I don't know; maybe they belong to Liu Juan."
"But hasn't Liu Juan already run away from home? Why is her admission notice still here?"
"I forgot; it might have been left behind when we cleaned the room last time."
The female officer held the notice in silence for a long time before slowly putting it down.
The two officers exchanged glances, disappointment reflected in each other's eyes.
Without substantial evidence, they had no choice but to leave for now.
Once they were gone, Yue Qing's Mother let out a sigh of relief, feeling the dampness on her back.
She peered through the window and watched the police car drive away before quickly heading into the storage room,
pulling open a large plastic box.
Inside the big box was another container,
and within it was a person bound hand and foot inside a plastic barrel, already unconscious.
That person was Wei Ran.
Wei Ran, the heir of the Wei Family, is also the son of Yue Qing and Wei Chen. He is the mastermind behind the bullying that plagues the campus. Even as a spirit, seeing him again fills me with dread. My mom was right; Wei Ran has been a little devil since he was young.
When Wei Ran was born, Old Master Wei was still alive. The old man favored boys over girls, and for a time, Wei Ran became the most cherished member of the Wei Family. My mom was despised by the family for giving birth to me, a girl, and was even driven out of the house. My dad harbored resentment towards my mom because of this.
But they never considered that whether a child is a boy or a girl is not something my mom could control. Not long after Wei Ran's birth, when the old man fell seriously ill, he established a rule: whoever gave birth to a boy would inherit the family fortune.
