The patient died.
Chu Qi was suspended from the hospital. A heavy shadow lingered in her heart. Every day, her mental state was unstable.
Downstairs, a commotion erupted. A group of angry family members of patients shouted for Chu Qi to pay with her life. She was paralyzed with fear. At that critical moment, Lu Mingyuan hid away.
Chu Qi was stabbed, blood spilling everywhere. Fortunately, the security guards arrived just in time to stop the chaos.
When I saw Chu Qi at the Rehabilitation Center, she appeared dazed.
"Jiang Wei, you’re here," she said.
"Stay with me for a while; I’m about to break down."
I looked at her coldly. "I don’t have time."
"We have nothing to do with each other."
Chu Qi panicked. "How can that be? I’m your wife!"
"We're already divorced."
"No, we haven’t; we’re still married, and we always will be."
"Jiang Wei, you can’t abandon me; you can’t!"
Chu Qi grabbed my arm, shouting frantically. I shook off her hand, feeling both pity and sadness for her.
"Chu Qi, when we got married, you said you would always be there for me."
"But what did you do?"
"You abandoned me when I needed you the most."
"Chu Qi, it’s impossible for us now."
I left, letting Chu Qi cry her heart out behind me. Memories flooded back. Every time Chu Qi faced difficulties, I would be by her side. She would hug me and act cute.
“Jiang Wei, thank goodness for you.”
“What would I do without you?”
But now, I had become a stranger to her. Perhaps all that remained between us was hatred. I sat in the elevator, preparing to go back. Just as the doors were about to close, I suddenly saw a pair of familiar hands. It was Lu Mingyuan. He desperately pressed the elevator button and rushed in, panting heavily.
“Where’s Chu Qi?”
“Where is she?”
I couldn't be bothered to respond to him and ignored his questions. Lu Mingyuan grew anxious and grabbed my collar.
“I’m asking you, where is Chu Qi?”
I pushed him away and straightened my clothes.
“Do you need something?”
Lu Mingyuan gritted his teeth.
“That foolish woman dared to say my name in public.”
“Now everyone knows she caused the medical accident because of me.”
“She’s asking for trouble; she shouldn’t drag me into this!”
I let out a cold laugh.
It turned out that Lu Mingyuan was this kind of person. In my previous life, he sacrificed his life to save Chu Qi. I thought they were true love, but now it seems otherwise. I can already imagine Chu Qi's future. Her tragedy is not just the failed surgery, but also the fact that she chose the wrong person.
After being suspended from the hospital, Chu Qi had no choice but to resign. She returned home and became a full-time housewife. However, she was sued for spreading rumors about me and Wu Yue. Wu Yue demanded that she issue a public apology and warned her not to speak carelessly again.
While having dinner with Wu Yue, she mentioned Chu Qi's situation. With a smile, Wu Yue asked me, "Your ex-wife treats you like this, aren't you going to get back at her?" I shook my head, "There's no need."
"Really?" Wu Yue said with a mischievous grin, "I've done my homework on this."
"Your ex-husband, that guy named Lu Mingyuan, has complicated relationships with women."
"And he has an STD."
I was taken aback. I truly didn't know about these things. It seemed that Chu Qi's future days would not be easy.
"Don't look at me like that; I'm a lawyer," Wu Yue said. "By the way, my hometown is also in this city." She handed me a business card. "If you need any help, feel free to reach out."
"After all, I saved your life; I can't let you die in vain." I accepted the business card.
