After eavesdropping on the gossip about Li Xiumei's background, Zhang Xiaoxiao finally remembered that she had intended to check on the little fox in the woodshed. She stretched her stiff legs and back before heading toward the shed. 0

Upon opening the door, the sound of the little fox's whimpering reached her ears. Zhang Xiaoxiao quickly lit an oil lamp, causing the little fox to jump in fright and struggle to escape. 0

"Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you," Zhang Xiaoxiao hurriedly reassured it. 0

The little fox remained scared, curling up in a corner, dirty and looking quite pitiful, which tugged at her heartstrings. Zhang Xiaoxiao wanted to approach it, but as soon as the little fox saw her coming closer, it instinctively backed away. 0

It suddenly dawned on Zhang Xiaoxiao that foxes were afraid of people. She hesitated to move closer, worried that she might frighten the little creature even more. The little fox kept a wary eye on her, its gaze filled with terror. 0

Zhang Xiaoxiao felt a pang of sympathy. "System, how long do you think it will take to raise this little fox properly?" she asked. 0

"Huh?" The system seemed confused. 0

"This little fox was caught by my man from the mountains, and I plan to keep it as a pet," Zhang Xiaoxiao explained. 0

"Huh?" The system was even more bewildered. 0

"What do you mean 'huh'?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said, slightly annoyed. 0

"Wait, are you really planning to keep this little fox as a pet?" the system asked incredulously. 0

"Yes," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded. 0

"But foxes will kill your chickens and ducks," the system reminded her. 0

"Oh right." Zhang Xiaoxiao was taken aback. How could she have forgotten that? 0

"What should I do now?" she asked. 0

"How about waiting until it heals and then having your man release it back into the mountains?" the system suggested. 0

"That works. I hope it won't get caught again next time," Zhang Xiaoxiao said. 0

"By the way, System, do you have any ideas on how to help the little fox recover faster?" she inquired. 0

"Of course there is," the system said smugly. 0

"Really?" Zhang Xiaoxiao exclaimed with joy. 0

"But why should I tell you?" the system suddenly turned hostile. 0

"You..." Zhang Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth in frustration. 0

"Unless..." the system continued. 0

"Unless what?" Zhang Xiaoxiao quickly asked. 0

"Unless you exchange it for completing a system task," the system replied. 0

"What system task?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, puzzled. 0

"Did you forget what I told you before?" the system said, exasperated. 0

"What did you tell me before?" Zhang Xiaoxiao looked confused. 0

"I knew you would forget," the system sighed in disbelief. 0

"Then hurry up and tell me," Zhang Xiaoxiao urged. 0

"Fine, I'll reluctantly tell you again," the system said. 0

"Mm-hmm," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded eagerly. 0

"The so-called system task is a task you need to complete. The content of the task is randomly drawn by the system, and it varies widely, but all of them are meant to help you complete your main task, which is to make your man devoted to you," the system explained. 0

"Oh," Zhang Xiaoxiao said, suddenly enlightened. 0

"The task bar, system points, and special abilities are all aids for you to complete your main task," the system continued. 0

"Do I have a task bar now?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked curiously. 0

"Not yet," the system answered. 0

"Why not?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked in confusion. 0

"Because you haven't activated a task yet," the system replied. 0

"So how do I activate a task?" Zhang Xiaoxiao inquired. 0

"Wait," the system answered with just one word. 0

"Wait for what?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, bewildered. 0

"Wait for your man to be moved by you," the system replied. 0

"Ah?" Zhang Xiaoxiao was confused. 0
"Once he develops feelings for you, the task will automatically activate," the system explained. 0
"Oh," Zhang Xiaoxiao understood. 0
"Your primary task now is to make your man fall for you," the system stated. 0
"Mm-hmm," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded repeatedly. 0
"Oh right, it seems you've completed a task today," the system suddenly remembered. 0
"What task?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked curiously. 0
"Eavesdropping on the male lead and Li Xiumei's foster mother’s secret, getting the scoop on The Mystery of Li Xiumei's Background," the system replied. 0
"What?" Zhang Xiaoxiao looked bewildered. 0
"In simple terms, you learned about Li Xiumei's mysterious background," the system clarified. 0
"Oh," Zhang Xiaoxiao said, realizing. 0
"But..." the system hesitated. 0
"But what?" Zhang Xiaoxiao quickly inquired. 0
"But you completed this task way too casually," the system criticized. 0
"What do you mean?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, puzzled. 0
"I just happened to pass by and overheard them arguing," Zhang Xiaoxiao explained. 0
"..." The system was speechless. 0
"So this task wasn't something I actively completed; it just fell into my lap," Zhang Xiaoxiao concluded. 0
"..." The system was even more speechless. 0
How did it end up binding such a person? The system felt incredibly frustrated. 0
"Is there any reward for this task?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked eagerly. 0
"There is," the system answered weakly. 0
"What reward?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked excitedly. 0
"A few system points," the system replied. 0

"Is that all?" Zhang Xiaoxiao immediately expressed her dissatisfaction. 0

"Just be grateful. For someone like you, casually completing a task and earning a few system points is already quite lucky," the system replied irritably. 0

"Fine," Zhang Xiaoxiao said helplessly. 0

"Alright, I’m hanging up," the system stated. 0

"Wait," Zhang Xiaoxiao called out quickly. 0

"What now?" the system asked impatiently. 0

"You said that my man would automatically trigger the task once he has feelings for me. So, does he have feelings for me now?" Zhang Xiaoxiao inquired. 0

"No," the system answered bluntly. 0

"Huh?" Zhang Xiaoxiao immediately deflated. 0

"You'll know when he starts to have feelings for you," the system said. 0

"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao could only accept this fact. 0

"I'm really hanging up now," the system said. 0

"Mm," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded softly. 0

After the system disappeared, Zhang Xiaoxiao glanced at the little fox. The little fox was still very scared, watching her warily. 0

Zhang Xiaoxiao had no choice but to exit the woodshed and close the door behind her. She sat in the yard, looking at the stars in the sky, feeling somewhat dejected. 0

"Don't be sad," the system suddenly spoke up to comfort her. 0

"I'm not sad; I just think your rules are too strict," Zhang Xiaoxiao complained. 0

"That's the system's regulation; there's nothing I can do about it," the system replied helplessly. 0

"Hmph, one day I'll make all of you in the system pay for this," Zhang Xiaoxiao declared fiercely. 0

"Pfft..." The system couldn't help but laugh. 0

"What are you laughing at?" Zhang Xiaoxiao snapped, embarrassed and angry. 0

"I'm laughing at how silly you are," the system answered. 0
