When she saw me, she grabbed my arm tightly, her nails digging deep into my flesh. It seemed like she was afraid I would run away. An Hui looked at me, tears streaming down her face.
" Fu Yue, why are you avoiding me?"
"Do you know? I have nothing left now."
"My parents are dead, Zhao Ming has another woman outside, and his mother treats me like an enemy."
" Fu Yue, I have nothing left; you're all I have."
I took a step back, trying to create some distance between us.
" An Hui, you're being too polite; I haven't done anything for you."
An Hui lunged forward, trying to wrap her arms around my legs. I dodged again.
" Fu Yue, are you punishing me?" she cried. "Are you punishing me for not listening to you and losing the baby?"
" Fu Yue, I was wrong; I'm apologizing to you. Please don't ignore me."
As she spoke, An Hui was about to kneel down in front of me. I quickly supported her. In front of so many people, if she really knelt before me, I wouldn't be able to show my face in this circle anymore.
I took a deep breath and said, " An Hui, I'm not angry with you."
"When you were in the hospital..."
"I violated the rules by arranging a single room for you, and I personally assisted in your delivery, which has led to disciplinary action from the hospital," he said. "I have been suspended for six months."
"During these six months, I haven't worked a single day. My suspension has nothing to do with you, An Hui, and you don't need to feel grateful to me. I only did what I believed was right."
"As for whether you choose to terminate the pregnancy or carry it to term, that is entirely your decision. We are just doctors; we can only provide what we believe to be the most professional advice."
An Hui cried out, " Fu Yue, I am completely lost right now. I really don't know what to do."
"The doctor said that if I don't terminate the pregnancy, my uterus might rupture. But my family and Zhao Ming's mother are insisting that I carry the child to term. They say if I don't give birth now, I may never have another chance."
" Fu Yue, please tell me what I should do?"
As An Hui's voice faded, a crowd had gathered around them. There were hospital staff as well as patients waiting for treatment. The murmurs of the crowd filled the air.
"Oh dear, this doctor is so irresponsible! How could he suggest that a patient terminate her pregnancy?"
"Exactly! This involves two lives!"
"There are too many unscrupulous doctors nowadays; all they care about is making money."
"I heard this doctor has been suspended; he must have done something wrong."
"Doctors like her should have their licenses revoked; she shouldn't be allowed to harm anyone anymore."
Hearing these comments, An Hui cried even harder.
She choked out, " Fu Yue, I'm begging you, please show me a way forward."
"You are a master in obstetrics and gynecology; I trust what you say."
"Tell me, should I have an abortion or not?"
" Fu Yue, please help me."
I looked coldly at An Hui.
She really knew how to flatter me.
She had put me in this position, and if I didn't give her the answer she wanted to hear, I would be the sinner.
Unfortunately, I was no longer the Fu Yue of my past life.
I wouldn't sacrifice myself for friendship again.
I replied indifferently, " An Hui, whether you want to have an abortion or keep the child is a decision only you can make."
"As doctors, we can only offer suggestions."
"Having an abortion carries its own risks, and so does giving birth; you must bear that risk yourself."
" An Hui, I can't help you."
"And," I paused before continuing, "don't come looking for me again; let's not be friends anymore."
An Hui didn't expect me to say that.
She froze for a moment before suddenly shoving me hard.
She used a lot of force, and caught off guard, I fell to the ground.
