He bought a bowl of congee and returned home alone. Fang Hui didn't call him or send a text message. When Xiao Yang got home, Fang Hui was not there. He guessed that she must be with Wei Zheng. He went to the kitchen, served himself a bowl of congee, and opened his phone to see Fang Hui's latest post.
Fang Hui had shared photos of her trip with Wei Zheng, captioned: "This time, it's my turn to chase you." Xiao Yang put down his phone and finished the congee in one gulp. Wiping his mouth, he stood up and headed to the Property Notary Office, intending to change the executor of his will. Previously, he had made a will for an Archaeological Project, naming Fang Hui as the executor.
Upon arriving at the notary office, he discovered that Fang Hui was there with Wei Zheng as well. The two were nestled together, sweetly like a couple just falling in love. Fang Hui leaned on Wei Zheng's shoulder and gently said, "From now on, everything I have is yours."
"You are mine, so of course your things are mine too," Wei Zheng replied, kissing her forehead.
"Then all my assets belong to you."
"I don't want them," Wei Zheng shook his head. "Your money is for you to spend."
"No, I want to give you everything I have." Fang Hui took Wei Zheng's hand and declared earnestly, "I want to give you all that I can."
Wei Zheng embraced her, looking deeply moved. Xiao Yang stood by, feeling superfluous.
Fang Hui caught sight of him and smiled awkwardly, "Xiao Yang, what brings you here?"
"Just taking care of some business," Xiao Yang replied without answering her question.
Fang Hui stepped out of Wei Zheng's embrace and pulled out a document from her bag, handing it to Xiao Yang. "This is the Prenuptial Agreement; please sign it."
Xiao Yang glanced briefly at the contents of the agreement, picked up a pen, and signed it.
"Aren't you going to look at what's inside?" Fang Hui was somewhat surprised by Xiao Yang's reaction.
"I trust you," Xiao Yang replied calmly.
Fang Hui understood that Xiao Yang's decision not to read the agreement wasn't due to his trust in her, but rather because he had no desire for her wealth. He wasn't with her for money.
Wei Zheng wrapped his arm around Fang Hui's shoulders and said, "Huihui, since Mr. Xiao has something to attend to, let's go take care of the paperwork."
"Okay," Fang Hui nodded and followed Wei Zheng.
Xiao Yang watched their retreating figures and let out a self-deprecating smile.
When he returned home, he packed his belongings, preparing to leave. He looked around the house, the place where he had lived with Fang Hui for several years. All the memories of the past would come to an end in the next moment.
That evening, Fang Hui called to say she wouldn't be coming home.
Xiao Yang didn't ask for the reason.
Seeing that he remained silent, Fang Hui took the initiative to explain, "I'll be there for tomorrow's wedding, don't worry."
Xiao Yang responded with a simple "mm" before hanging up the phone.
Early the next morning, Xiao Yang dragged his suitcase out the door. He arrived at the airport before the morning rush and got his boarding pass. Just as he was about to board, Fang Hui's call came in.
He stared at the name flashing on his phone screen, his finger hovering above it without pressing down for a long time.
A few seconds later, the screen went dark. He dragged his suitcase and walked into the boarding gate.
The past with Fang Hui had completely vanished from his life, much like the darkened screen. Xiao Yang reunited with his mentor in the Northwest Region. The mentor, along with the team, was following up on an Archaeological Project at the Porcelain Ruins. Within the Research Team, there were many fellow Senior Brothers and Sisters, including his junior sister, Wang Peiqi.
