A few people quickly clarified the situation, and Rao Gang felt even more guilty towards his daughter. She had endured so much hardship while preparing for her graduate exams; it was truly not easy for her. Their family had given Rao Jie nothing but grievances and pain.
Although they had explained everything clearly, Huang Xiang, even if he were a fool, could understand the implications. However, as an elder being confronted by so many younger ones, his feelings were understandable. Being dismissed and mocked would undoubtedly make him feel humiliated and angry.
Huang Xiang suppressed his anger and shouted, "What do you kids know? You're all her friends, of course you're biased towards her. If the child did something wrong, she needs to recognize it and be taught. Even if she seems innocent on the surface, there are definitely mistakes beneath it. She needs to conduct herself properly; how could she attract trouble otherwise? She still has lessons to learn!"
The group was infuriated by Huang Xiang's words and was about to retort when he waved his hand impatiently and said, "Alright, alright, we understand the situation now. It's late; please leave!" He put on a face that suggested he didn’t want to argue with the younger generation.
"What!" Wu Xin exclaimed in surprise.
"We're staying to take care of Rao Jie," Wei Qian said coldly.
The others wore stern expressions.
Huang Xiang said firmly, "My daughter is in the hospital; I don't want so many people disturbing her! How did your parents teach you? Why are you all crowding here? Get out!"
Rao Gang quickly pulled at Huang Xiang and said, "Why are you being so harsh with our daughter's friends? They’re here to help."
"Rao Jie has us as parents; she doesn't need anyone else here," Huang Xiang replied bluntly.
"Ha... parents?" Wu Rong suddenly spoke up coldly after a long silence.
As soon as Wu Xin and Rao Jie heard Wu Rong's tone, they knew things were about to get bad. His temper was rising.
Wu Rong was not someone who would give others face; he always acted according to his mood. Anyone who dared to upset him would find themselves even more unhappy.
Wu Xin quickly turned back to Wu Rong, trying to signal him with her eyes, but he completely ignored her.
Rao Jie seized the moment when their parents weren't looking and discreetly tugged at Wu Rong's shirt to stop him from escalating the situation. Sensing Rao Jie’s gesture, Wu Rong surprisingly behaved himself and didn’t push further.
Taking advantage of the moment, Rao Jie quickly said, "Parents, I'm fine. There's no need for you to stay and take care of me; my friends can keep me company." At that moment, Rao Jie strangely preferred to trouble her friends rather than her parents.
However, Huang Xiang insisted firmly, "Your parents are still alive; why should you trouble others?"
Rao Jie looked helplessly at Rao Gang.
Rao Gang seemed to have thought of something and advised Huang Xiang, "Let the young people be together; it's more relaxed for them. We can go home first and come back later tonight."
"If you want to leave, go ahead! I'm not going!" Huang Xiang pouted defiantly, making it seem as if she couldn't bear to be apart from her daughter.
Rao Gang was afraid of his wife; since Huang Xiang insisted on this, he couldn't withstand her pressure.
The atmosphere had become somewhat tense. At that moment, as a complete outsider, He Dong couldn't help but speak up to ease the conflict.
"Well... it's already dinner time. How about we young people go out for a meal and bring back some food for Rao Jie and her parents?"
Everyone hesitated a bit. Rao Jie understood that her mother might not genuinely insist on staying to take care of her; it was more about pride. She figured that if her mother took a moment to calm down, when she eventually decided it was time to go back and cook for her eldest son, she would leave without Rao Jie needing to say much.
So, Rao Jie quickly echoed He Dong's suggestion.
