"I, Monet, hereby swear absolute loyalty to Su Ruolan within the agreed period. Should I break this oath, I shall never become an adult." The crisp voice of Silver Gray Wolf Monet solemnly declared, as a drop of blood formed at his brow and flew towards Su Ruolan, merging into her consciousness.
Instantly, Su Ruolan felt a surge of intense energy coursing through her body, filling her limbs with a burning sensation. The droplets of energy within her meridians grew larger, pressing against each other and becoming increasingly agitated.
"You are about to level up." Due to the constraints of the rules, the space ejected Su Ruolan and Monet. Previously, Su Ruolan could only enter the space with her consciousness, but this time, the Reset upgrade unlocked new permissions, allowing her and her contracted life form to enter the space together. However, when the main entity levels up beyond their current stage, they must leave the space to undergo tribulations.
As Su Ruolan and Monet blinked, they found themselves outside the space. Surrounding them were towering trees, densely packed with intertwining branches and leaves that obscured much of the sky. A few rays of sunlight penetrated the canopy but were blocked by the foliage above, failing to reach the ground. The leaves on the forest floor had piled up thickly, damp and decaying, emitting a faintly pungent odor. Shadows danced in the woods, creating an eerie atmosphere that made one feel uneasy.
"Where is this? You are the master here; quickly find a safe and secluded place for your upgrade." Since both were contracted partners of Su Ruolan, Reset was able to communicate with Monet. Su Ruolan was pleased that Reset had made a new friend, though she failed to notice Monet's hidden fear towards Reset.
"I have been here before; I remember there is a concealed cave not far ahead where you can safely upgrade." Although Monet tried hard to appear mature and composed, his youthful voice made it impossible for Su Ruolan not to feel a sense of delight; he was simply too adorable, like a young boy.
The group quickly found the cave. Monet stood guard at the entrance while Su Ruolan focused on her upgrade inside. Embracing unity,
she continuously guided the elemental droplets to merge. Gradually, white dots began to appear in the surrounding air—visible to the naked eye—growing in number as they gathered around Su Ruolan, forming a circle before merging into her body. The water elements in the air and environment responded to Su Ruolan's call, becoming one with her. The water elements within her body increased significantly; droplets gradually connected into a stream that widened and strengthened her meridians. Starting from her lower abdomen, she directed energy upward through various acupoints: from below her lips at Chengjiang Acupoint; along her spine up to the crown of her head; then forward between her eyes to reach the upper gums at Yinjiao Acupoint. Focusing intently, she repeatedly struck each acupoint barrier—especially at the converging point—enduring intense pain as she crashed against them again and again until finally breaking through. The Ren and Du meridians were opened.
Feeling an overwhelming sense of relief wash over her, water elements surged within her in an infinite cycle as she successfully advanced to Level Three Beginner. Immediately afterward, significant changes occurred in her consciousness; the space expanded as if Pangu had split open the earth. The originally enclosed space separated into two parts: one ascending into an ethereal realm while the other descended into a terrestrial realm. A pond appeared in the terrestrial area—shallow enough to see its bottom—with a house beside it made from materials that resembled wood yet were not quite wood, iron yet not quite iron, clay yet not quite clay. Inside were two rooms: one contained supplies collected by Su Ruolan, while the other held a book titled "The Seventh Element."
"I have finally leveled up!" Reset felt a sense of release from pent-up frustration.
Before she could finish speaking, silver light flashed across Monet, who stood outside the cave. His previously severe injuries healed completely, and his energy surged even more robustly than before—he felt infinitely close to Level Three, teetering on that critical point. "Master, all my injuries are healed." Initially reluctant about their contract, upon realizing he could gain such benefits, Monet couldn't help but feel elated; his resistance faded somewhat. Animal mutations were inherently difficult; evolution was even harder—otherwise it wouldn't have taken four years for them to emerge in this post-apocalyptic world.
"This book is a resource available with your current permissions, Ruo Lan. You can practice according to it; it will benefit your understanding of elements and enhance your strength," said Reset.
"Hey, have you become more emotional and less rigid?" Su Ruolan remarked, somewhat slow to realize.
If Reset had a face, it would surely be one of disdain at Su Ruolan's misplaced focus.
"You've just leveled up, and your foundation isn't stable yet. It would be better to improve here for a while. The situation outside is becoming increasingly perilous; you can't rely on luck forever. This is our last chance, so we must be cautious," Reset said finally, activating a mental shield for Monet. After all, it was still early in their acquaintance, and it wasn't appropriate to reveal everything just yet.
Although Su Ruolan longed for wings to fly directly to him, recent experiences had made her acutely aware of the dangers of the apocalypse. She realized she wasn't strong enough. She believed that with his abilities, he would undoubtedly protect himself and become even stronger than before. She couldn't fall too far behind; she had to work hard. When they met again, she wanted to stand proudly before him and say, "I am still the Lan'er you love."
Determined, Su Ruolan decided to continue solidifying her Ability in the cave. She opened "The Seventh Element," author unknown.
"Who is this mysterious author?" Su Ruolan asked curiously.
"I'm not sure. My inherited memories have only partially returned. I remember this was left here by the previous master; it should be from about two hundred years ago—your ancestor," Reset recalled.
Su Ruolan began to read "The Seventh Element" carefully and noticed its content bore some resemblance to Taoism. It introduced the world as being composed of seven elements: metal, wood, water, fire, earth, and time and space. All other elements evolved from these seven. The five elements interacted in cycles of creation and destruction, while time and space accompanied and nurtured them. The writing was concise, clear in structure, and logically rigorous; Su Ruolan found it captivating.
While reading about the giant serpent in the space around her, Su Ruolan simultaneously absorbed the knowledge. Whenever she had an idea, she would exit the space with Monet to engage in battles nearby, continuously enhancing her practical experience. At first, she was thoroughly beaten by Monet but gradually managed to hold her own.
Suddenly, a tornado formed as the temperature at its center fluctuated dramatically. The water flowing down along the cyclone's path violently altered its trajectory, crashing into a nearby mountainside and toppling trees while dirt flew everywhere.
"You won! I didn't expect you to figure out how to counter my ultimate move in such a short time," Monet said, surprised yet sincere.
"Of course! You should consider who your master is," Reset replied with a hint of pride.
"I just took advantage of the Ice Water Ability," Su Ruolan said humbly.
"Which bastard is causing trouble here? Damn it, I will kill you!" A frantic voice echoed, shaking Su Ruolan and the others to their core.
Suddenly, a figure as fast as lightning dashed through the forest. Before the voice had even faded, it was already in front of them. A giant snake over ten meters long appeared, rearing its head to a height of seven or eight meters. Its triangular head and a pair of cold, crimson eyes fixed menacingly on Su Ruolan and her companions. Its forked tongue flicked in and out, and a foul liquid dripped from the corners of its mouth onto the ground, quickly corroding the leaves beneath it and leaving behind dark holes.
It could actually speak; it must be at least a high-level three.
