As night fell without notice, Wang Chao listened to the howling of the door behind him and the incessant banging. He felt as if he had swallowed something disgusting. "Damn it, can’t anyone let me sleep? Is being a Zombie that impressive? Do you believe I could wipe you all out in a minute?" With that, Wang Chao slammed his hand against the door. Beside him was still the most unfortunate Zombie he had ever encountered, and he vented his frustration by kicking it a few times. 0

Suddenly, Wang Chao's phone rang, startling him with its unexpected sound. He pulled out his phone and saw that it was his girlfriend calling. "Wang Chao! Wang Chao! You have to come find me!" Liu Xiaoxiao's voice was frantic and unclear over the line. Hearing her tone filled with terror and urgency made Wang Chao anxious. "Where are your parents?" he asked. 0

"I don’t know! There are so many people trying to eat me! No, they’re not people! I’m in the bathroom, and they’re outside! I don’t know what to do! You have to come save me! Ah!" Liu Xiaoxiao's scream echoed through the phone, intensifying Wang Chao's anxiety. Even though his girlfriend wasn't particularly beautiful, she was still his girlfriend. 0

"Damn it! Are you okay? Liu Xiaoxiao, speak to me!" Wang Chao shouted, but there was no response on the other end. A wave of anger and helplessness surged within him. But what could he do? Behind him were countless Zombies separated by just a door, and in front of him was a blood-stained window. He couldn't just open the window and jump out, could he? After several attempts to call back with no answer, he tried reaching Yang Mengying but only got a busy signal. 0

Peering through the blood-streaked window, Wang Chao saw various Zombies in the community below—muscular shirtless Zombies, large-breasted middle-aged female Zombies, and even an elderly lady Zombie walking a Zombie dog. Damn it, Wang Chao thought; usually, they never came out for a stroll, but now as Zombies they seemed to love exercising. He watched as they flowed like a tide from one side to the other. 0

Before he knew it, half an hour had passed. 0

Fortunately for Wang Chao, there was still electricity in the community and heating hadn’t stopped. He knew that even without maintenance, the power and heating could last for some time; however, after that, things would be uncertain. 0

Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed the curtains drawn tightly on either side of the window. Damn it! Why hadn’t he thought of that before? He remembered when there had been a fire at his university; they had conducted fire drills for a whole month to train students in evacuation awareness. They even had firefighters demonstrate how to use bedsheets tied together as ropes to rappel down from windows. 0

He had a girlfriend to save; staying here meant certain death. Wang Chao thought to himself that even if he died, he wouldn’t die alongside these two idiots. What if one day the Zombies were gone and someone came in only to find them having fun? If this made it into the news, he'd be utterly humiliated. So he took the curtains and bedsheets and tied them together into a rope. 0

Wang Chao tested the rope; it felt sturdy enough. Although it wasn’t long, it was sufficient for one floor’s height. He didn’t need to descend much—just one floor would do. His two kitchen knives were left in the living room, so he rummaged through his bedroom looking for something to break the window glass. Instead, he found a pile of intimate apparel that left him speechless. 0

After some effort, he finally found a power bank with a metal casing. Satisfied, he nodded and swung it with all his might against the glass. The supposedly unbreakable glass surprisingly cracked long and deep with just one hit. Wang Chao was left speechless at such shoddy construction quality. He kicked at the glass twice more until it shattered completely, falling onto the ground with a crash that drew the attention of Zombies below who looked up at him curiously. 0

Wang Chao securely tied the rope to the foot of the bed and tested it; it felt very sturdy. He then tied the other end around himself and extended one foot out. Looking down at the countless Zombies below, he thought, "How come there are so many in this neighborhood? I never noticed before." The Zombies on the ground spotted Wang Chao and crowded around directly beneath him, quickly forming a sea of undead. Those in the back crawled forward, and soon there were two layers stacked up. 0

Wang Chao muttered to himself, "What the hell is this, a Zombie stack?" Suddenly, he thought that even if he fell from here, there were still two layers of Zombie flesh below to cushion his fall. He estimated he wouldn't die from it, but Wang Chao didn't dare to be careless; after all, he didn't want to become one of those mindless monsters. When he had watched firefighters perform before, it hadn't seemed that strenuous. 0

However, as he hung down, his hands were rubbed raw and burned painfully. Wang Chao cursed under his breath but didn't loosen his grip. The short three-meter drop was incredibly difficult for him, but fortunately, during college, he had been part of the basketball club and occasionally practiced Taekwondo, so his physical fitness was decent. Otherwise, he would have fallen from this seventh floor long ago. 0

Suddenly, Wang Chao heard a loud "bang" above him. He inwardly cursed; the door to his bedroom was wooden. Even if it were an iron door, repeated impacts from those Zombies could create a dent. Sure enough, within seconds, he saw a Zombie fly out above him. 0

"Damn! A flying corpse?" Wang Chao cursed and hurriedly slid down further. More and more Zombies flew out from above him like a waterfall made of undead. Wang Chao's body swayed as they kept bumping against the rope, causing him to swing back and forth. At that moment, he had reached the glass on the sixth floor and kicked at it with all his might—but it didn’t break! 0

"What the hell? Is this glass made of steel?" Wang Chao suddenly missed that previous piece of shoddy glass. 0

Suddenly, Wang Chao felt a jolt; looking up, he saw that the rope had frayed into countless thin strands. It seemed that in the next moment, these strands would snap. Looking at the Zombies above and below him made him feel like crying—was this how he was going to die? Damn it! As Wang Chao swung one last time, he clearly felt the rope break! 0

He was like a kite with its string cut, hurtling towards the glass. 0

"Oh crap!" Wang Chao shouted angrily. "If you're glass, you better shatter! If you don't break, I'll haunt you as a ghost!" 0

Then he crashed into it. 0

It didn’t shatter! 0

Wang Chao felt like his heart had broken! 0

How can a piece of glass be this hard? 0

Harder than my own life... 0
