He pulled out a document and waved it in front of us. "This is my new system plan. When Origin Awakening World collapses, I'll replace it with this. At that time, I will be the ruler of the new world."
"What you want isn't money at all..." I suddenly realized something.
"Finally figured it out?" Li Wei's eyes grew more frenzied. "Money and power are too superficial. What I want is to completely change the rules of this world! In the new world where the virtual and reality intertwine, I will be God!"
The atmosphere in the control room froze. I could feel Qin Yu trembling, but not out of fear—she was angry.
"How many lives have you ruined for this insane plan?" Her voice was filled with deep hatred.
"Don't say that, old classmate," Li Wei replied insincerely. "If you hadn't been so arrogant back then, you wouldn't have fallen into my trap. How have these past two years hiding in the shadows treated you?"
Qin Yu said nothing, just stared at him intently. I knew she was waiting for an opportunity, but we were heavily surrounded, and the situation was dire.
Suddenly, Zhang Lei's urgent voice came through the earpiece: "Listen, I've found a temporary power source in the server unit. If you cut it off, the entire underground level three will experience a brief blackout. But this will trigger the backup power; it won't last long, so you need to seize the opportunity!"
I gently squeezed Qin Yu's hand, and she nodded in understanding.
"Li Wei, I have a question," I said deliberately. "Is your new system stored in that safe?"
"What, do you want to take a look?" Li Wei took the bait. "Come on, I'll let you see the blueprint for the future before you die."
He turned and walked toward the safe. Now's our chance!
I pressed the hidden Signal Device tucked in my sleeve. In an instant, the entire floor was plunged into darkness.
In the dark, gunfire erupted. I grabbed Qin Yu and quickly rolled behind the control console. Chaos surrounded us, filled with curses and the sound of hurried footsteps.
"Thirty seconds!" Zhang Lei reminded us through the earpiece. "The backup power will start soon!"
I pulled out the Night Vision Goggles I had prepared earlier and handed a pair to Qin Yu. "Hurry, get to the console!"
She climbed to the computer with the agility of a cat, her fingers flying over the keyboard. Despite her injuries, years of experience allowed her movements to flow seamlessly.
"I found it!" she whispered. "The source code for the Self-Destruct Program... Wait, something's not right!"
"What is it?"
"This program... it's not just a self-destruct mechanism." Her voice suddenly turned fearful. "Li Wei has implanted a backdoor in the code. Once the system crashes, all users' assets won't disappear; they'll be transferred to his new system!"
I gasped in shock. This was Li Wei's true plan—he intended to use this "disaster" to force all users to migrate to his new platform.
"Can it be disabled?"
"It requires the highest permissions... Damn it!" Qin Yu cursed under her breath. "Li Wei modified the permission settings."
Just then, the backup power kicked in. Blinding lights flooded the room once more.
"Give up," Li Wei's voice came from behind. "Do you really think this will stop me?"
He raised his gun, a manic smile spreading across his face. "Do you know why I chose to act now? Because in just a few hours, the Global Financial Market will open. When the news of the Origin Awakening World collapsing spreads, it will trigger an unprecedented panic. And my new system is the only lifeline!"
"You've lost your mind!" I shouted. "This will destroy the entire financial system!"
"No, this is called reconstruction!" Li Wei's eyes gleamed with increasing fervor. "The old order must be shattered. In the new world, the rules will be set by me!"
The countdown continued. Twenty minutes. Nineteen minutes. Eighteen minutes...
