Because I, Shen Chengzhou, had a falling out with my dad.
He was kicked out and has been living at my place these days.
"Baby, I'll find a place and move out soon. I won't stay here for long," he said.
Though he said that, he hadn't made any plans to rent a place for weeks. It was always either that he was busy with work or short on funds.
Recently, he has been getting more outrageous; not only did he casually rummage through my things, but he also suggested adding his name to the property deed.
"Baby, since we're going to get married anyway, why not take this opportunity to add my name? We can get married right after!"
Hearing this made my heart tremble.
I had paid the down payment out of my own pocket, and there was still a hefty mortgage to pay each month. Adding his name without reason put me in a difficult position.
But then I thought about how it was my fault that he got kicked out, and I started feeling conflicted again.
Recently, it was the peak season for the Nail Salon, and I was busy from morning till night. Even if I were to add his name, it would have to wait until after this rush.
These past few days have been hectic, but strangely enough, there have been several middle-aged men loitering around the shop lately, occasionally glancing inside. This afternoon, one greasy man even walked straight in and asked me if we offered certain services.
Furious, I cursed at him and threatened to call the police if he dared to come back.
That night, I saw on the surveillance footage that the greasy man was trying to pry open the door!
Thinking about the tablets and cash inside the shop, I couldn't care about anything else and rushed to the entrance to catch him in the act.
I waited until the door was half ajar.
My heart leaped into my throat, but I still gripped the stick and kicked the door open.
As soon as I stepped inside, a large hand clamped down over my mouth.
A familiar stench of alcohol made me gag. I turned around and was shocked to see Shen Dagen!
I was so frightened that I immediately screamed, but he was incredibly strong, pinning me down with ease. He leaned in close, revealing his yellowed teeth, and said, "Baby, you’re so fair-skinned and tender. It’s different with someone in your line of work; I liked you the moment I saw you."
"You’re insane! I’m your son’s girlfriend, your future daughter-in-law! How can you be so shameless, you beast!"
At my words, Shen Dagen suddenly calmed down. Just then, Li Xiaomei's voice came from outside.
She looked shocked at first, then picked up the stick and walked over to me.
The moment the stick fell, I felt my eyelids grow heavy.
Before losing consciousness completely, I saw Shen Dagen slowly walk over to Li Xiaomei. The two of them stared coldly at me, a hint of smugness crossing their faces.
When I opened my eyes again, I found Shen Chengzhou and a group of relatives sitting solemnly around my bed.
"Chengzhou, just now... that was a dream I had, right? Your dad... he..."
" Anan, that wasn’t a dream. We all know about that incident."
"What incident? What do you all know?"
Shen Chengzhou remained silent, but Li Xiaomei suddenly emerged from the crowd, pointing at me and shouting, "You shameless vixen! How dare you seduce my husband? You didn't even negotiate a price before beating him to a pulp! What a wicked heart you have!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? It was Shen Dagen who tried to assault me! I was going to call the police on him!"
Li Xiaomei snatched my phone away, and indeed, there were messages in it where I had arranged to meet Shen Dagen at the store.
She then pulled out Shen Dagen's injury report, which stated that he had been beaten with a stick, and my fingerprints were all over that stick.
"Fake, fake! All of this is fake! That message wasn't sent by me! Everyone, please don't believe her!"
In the face of what they called "irrefutable evidence," no matter how much I tried to explain, it was futile.
Seeing the disdainful looks from my friends and family only fueled my agitation.
Shen Chengzhou immediately shouted, " Anan, you’re not going to start acting like your parents too, are you? Do you want me to call a doctor for you?"
I froze at his words. Before I could react, he leaned closer to my ear and whispered, "As long as you obediently transfer your house to me, I can let this go. Otherwise, I'll tell the hospital that you have violent tendencies and are mentally unstable, just like your parents. It's up to you how you want to handle this."
Looking at the man I had loved for three years, I couldn't help but laugh at how foolish I had been.
