During the day, the top expert of the Hidden Pavilion, Xin Yao, was fierce and ruthless. However, at night when it was time to sleep, he transformed into a different person—his body cold and trembling as if possessed by a chilling demon.
Seeing this, Yun Qingyu pondered to herself that perhaps Xin Yao's bed was inadequate, which caused his discomfort.
Thus, she offered him her own bed.
Upon hearing this, Xin Yao froze in place, his eyes filled with fear and unease. He quickly replied, "I dare not."
Yun Qingyu calmly looked at him and gently reminded him, "Do you remember what I said yesterday?"
Xin Yao's expression shifted slightly as he recalled the princess's command to obey unconditionally.
Though he understood that this was quite improper, he knew he had no room to resist the princess's order. Reluctantly, he rose and slowly made his way toward Yun Qingyu's bed, moving like a prisoner on the way to execution—filled with helplessness.
On the princess's bed lay only a thin blanket. As Xin Yao gazed at it, he appeared somewhat at a loss. His steps were slow and heavy, each one taken with great difficulty as if the bed were a ferocious beast.
Yun Qingyu quietly observed the conflicted expression on her Shadow Guardian's face and found it oddly amusing.
Unbeknownst to her, her long-frozen heart began to experience subtle changes. Her voice unconsciously took on a more casual tone with a hint of teasing as she said, "Do you need me to hold you?"
At her words, Xin Yao's body jolted. No longer daring to delay, he quickly and neatly lay down on the bed.
His dark eyes anxiously looked at Yun Qingyu, resembling a pitiful person forced into an undesirable situation—filled with fear and embarrassment.
Then, Yun Qingyu also lay down beside him. She reached out to pull the blanket over them and casually tossed it to Xin Yao, speaking in a flat tone: "Cover yourself and go to sleep."
Xin Yao stiffly pulled the blanket over himself. Although he truly felt no cold at all now, he could not disobey his master's orders.
He responded softly, then his entire body became as rigid as a stone, tense and trembling as he closed his eyes. His anxious demeanor suggested that even the slightest movement could lead to a grave mistake.
Yun Qingyu naturally did not miss Xin Yao's quivering eyelashes and could guess the turmoil within him at that moment.
She thought it was amusing how the fierce and ruthless shadow guard from earlier in the day was now reacting this way.
Initially, Xin Yao's stiff posture began to relax gradually as he slipped into a light sleep; his breathing became even and steady, and his furrowed brow smoothed out.
However, in the next moment, Yun Qingyu noticed Xin Yao's body slowly curling up, the thin blanket wrapping around him like a cocoon.
Even so, he still appeared very cold, his body unable to control itself as it began to shiver lightly.
Yun Qingyu frowned again, filled with confusion: what on earth was happening with this body's reaction after falling asleep?
The situation was too strange; she would have to call a doctor to take a look after dawn.
Just as she was thinking about this, she saw Xin Yao, wrapped in the blanket like a cocoon, inching closer to her. Before long, he reached out from under the blanket and tightly hugged her waist.
Yun Qingyu was momentarily taken aback, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.
Her gaze fell on Xin Yao's gradually calming body, and she couldn't help but wonder: is hugging me while sleeping warmer than the blanket? Am I more effective than the blanket?
She could feel that Xin Yao's body was cold when he fell asleep. In summer, it would be quite comfortable to hold him while sleeping, but in winter, they would probably need to place some charcoal nearby.
That said, as a martial artist, he should have woken up immediately upon contact, yet he showed no reaction at all.
Watching Xin Yao hold her tighter and his breathing become steadier, Yun Qingyu couldn't help but sigh inwardly: it really is warm to sleep while holding me.
If she were to wake him now, would he be so startled by her impolite action that he would be scared half to death? Then he would likely kneel and apologize as usual.
Thus, Yun Qingyu spent the night being held by the Shadow Guardian.
As dawn broke, Xin Yao slowly opened his eyes, still in a moment of daze.
He had never slept so soundly and deeply before; the sensation left him somewhat bewildered.
However, this confusion lasted only a brief moment.
Once he took in the scene before him and saw the princess's stunning face right in front of him, realizing that his hands were tightly wrapped around her slender waist, his face instantly turned pale as if struck by lightning.
He shot up abruptly and without hesitation knelt beside the bed with a thud, panic-stricken as he pleaded, "Your Highness, Subordinate deserves death a thousand times over. Please forgive me!"
Yun Qingyu lazily opened her eyes and looked at Xin Yao, a slight smile playing on her lips as she asked teasingly, "Did you sleep well holding This Palace?"
