I took this daring action out of trust in the soldiers, and they did not disappoint me. The moment my gun fired, all three of them dropped to the ground in unison. Otherwise, the first to fall under my muzzle would have been those three warriors. Instead, the entire magazine of bullets struck the Giant Water Snake's head and body. 0

The firing rate of the micro submachine gun was fast; in the instant I pulled the trigger, thirty rounds were unleashed. Although the micro submachine gun lacked significant firepower, it still inflicted damage and immense pain. The snake's head jerked back under the onslaught of flames. 0

As my gunfire ceased, I heard the distinct sound of a magazine being changed, followed by Zhao Squad Leader opening fire with his automatic rifle. The snake's head was shattered by his barrage, crashing heavily into the water and creating a massive splash and noise. I couldn't believe we had killed it so easily and quickly discarded the empty magazine to load a new one. 0

At that moment, the water began to boil. 0

Our illumination could not penetrate the pavement, but the raging sound of water roared like a volcanic eruption. Fear pressed down on me like a mountain. 0

Without thinking, I shouted to Liu Squad Leader, "Throw the torch! Throw it high!" 0

My voice was loud and somewhat hoarse. Liu Squad Leader hurled the torch into the air, and it soared high above the pavement, illuminating our surroundings. As I looked at what lay before me, I took a step back, nearly falling to the ground. 0

In the water were countless massive serpentine bodies intertwined, thrashing as if engaged in a fierce battle or a mating ritual. However, these snakes were enormous; their yellow-brown striped bodies had a diameter of over half a meter, making it impossible to discern their length in the water. This shock lasted only a moment before another realization struck me—a vision of an eye as large as a basin appeared in my mind. 0

It felt as if spring thunder had erupted in my head. I shouted, "This is not just one snake." 0

"Anyone can see this is a whole bunch of snakes!" Zhao Squad Leader gasped. 0

I knew there was no time to explain or even attempt to do so. I yelled, "Give me a grenade!" 0

Zhao Squad Leader fished out a grenade and tossed it to me. When I caught it, I realized the safety cap had already been removed; I quickly pulled off the pin with my teeth while holding the lit fuse grenade in my mouth. I raised my micro submachine gun and swept it toward the falling torch. While it was difficult for the micro submachine gun to inflict significant damage on such a giant Water Monster, its effect after hitting the torch was still evident—especially since my marksmanship was decent. 0

The torch shattered instantly under my fire; the twine wrapped around it scattered like flower petals in bloom. The oil that had been bound burst forth like an explosion of dust, generating immense heat and brightness. In an instant, this space seemed to be illuminated completely. 0
Liu Squad Leader raised his only movable right arm and pointed upwards, shouting, "What is that?" 0

Damn, he still had the mood to care about what was above. I cursed under my breath and pulled a smoking grenade from my mouth. My eyes were fixed ahead as I waited for something to appear. Several massive water snakes writhed and tangled on the pavement, and just as a blinding light appeared in the air, these entwined Giant Water Snakes suddenly separated, obediently either diving into the water or swimming around the pavement as if welcoming their king. With a loud crash, almost at the same moment the Giant Water Snakes showed their submission, the pavement erupted like a mountain. This exceeded my expectations, and in despair, I shouted, "That's not what I'm waiting for." A mound with yellow-brown patterns emerged from the water; no, more accurately, it resembled a gigantic jar. The water snakes swimming around the enormous jar suddenly raised their heads as if going mad and lunged toward the Fire Sea above. Zhao Squad Leader, who had just stood up, plopped back down onto the ground. Liu Squad Leader was very close to me, standing right beside me; he had also raised his head but had stopped pointing upwards. He was staring at this monster before us; as long as it wasn't a ghost or a water ghost, he wouldn't be particularly afraid. However, this thing still managed to stun him. I didn't have the time or mood to look at his expression, but the chaotic curses spilling from his mouth made it clear that his face must have looked quite bad—perhaps worse than mine. 0

It was a gigantic soft-bodied creature that resembled an octopus. Are there octopuses in freshwater? Ridiculous. Those of us who work in Archaeology, especially someone like me who has been in Archaeology teams for years, must possess considerable knowledge of wilderness survival and have systematic learning about flora and fauna. Of course, upon catching sight of this creature before me, my mind first denied what my eyes were seeing. Yet I couldn't deny reality; no matter how much I disbelieved my eyes, reality was vividly present before me. The enormous soft-bodied creature surged out of the pavement like a mountain, sending waves crashing directly onto the embankment and nearly knocking me off my feet into the water. Even so, it couldn't wake me from my stupor; I stared blankly at the scene before me, shocked to the point of losing my ability to think or act. Until Zhao Squad Leader's thunderous voice broke through: "Are you trying to blow yourself up?" 0

I suddenly came to my senses—I was still holding a grenade. I felt it could explode at any moment; despite every change happening before me being fleeting, at that moment, the various scenes were too chaotic and accumulated over time felt lengthy. At that instant, I had lost all sense of time and even fear of death. I believed Liu Squad Leader was also in this strange and idiotic state because when he heard Zhao Squad Leader's words, he glanced at the grenade in my hand and laughed. I wasn't as idiotic as Liu Squad Leader; perhaps I snapped out of that state a bit earlier. Upon hearing Zhao Squad Leader's shout, I immediately swung my arm and threw the grenade toward a target. Thankfully, I regained my clarity quickly and didn't forget the purpose of throwing the grenade. As I tossed it out, I raised my muzzle and shouted without looking back: "Aim for its eyes." The muzzle flashed fire just as my words fell. The distance was somewhat far for an assault rifle; at the moment the flames shot out, I slightly lifted my muzzle. My target was its eyes; when I confirmed it was indeed the Water Monster that initially attacked us, I recalled having seen an eye as large as a basin and devised an impromptu plan to possibly repel it. The first half of this plan executed perfectly—the flames spread like fireworks, illuminating a large area of pavement while the Water Monster lunged toward the fire as expected. Just like a line from a movie: I guessed the beginning but not the ending. 0
