Last April Fool's Day, I couldn't ask everyone for support or wish you a happy holiday. But today, I’m asking for your support. 0

Honestly, I don’t think they are after the fire. Jack’s perspective is too subjective; just because they aren’t afraid of fire doesn’t mean they will use it. I believe they see us as food. They are at the top of the food chain in this space. 0

However, I wouldn’t mind proving Jack wrong. I’m curious to see how these monsters would react if I extinguished the fire. 0

In fact, the campfire had already been mostly extinguished by a Crimson Eyes Monster. This Monster had no fur and no flammable parts. Once the fire beneath it went out, a large cloud of smoke rose up along with the smell of roasted meat. 0

I picked up the water bottle that had fallen to the ground and said to Jack, “Cover me.” Then I jumped up and splashed water onto the fire. 0

A choking steam rose from the campfire, and the flames quickly went out. 0

Coughing, I fell to the ground and shouted, “Did you see that? They don’t want the fire; they want us. Just like you want to eat it, they want to have you for dinner.” 0

Without the campfire’s light, I couldn’t see Jack’s expression, but his silence was enough to indicate he accepted the truth. The problem was that without the campfire’s illumination, our situation was far worse than that of the Crimson Eyes monsters; we couldn’t see them at all. Even if they crept up beside me, I wouldn’t notice. This forced us to run away. Hopefully, we could shake them off. 0

I turned on the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight and pointed it in a direction, shouting to Jack, “You take above; I’ll deal with anything blocking our path.” 0

Then I jumped up and ran. 0

Jack’s Micro Submachine Gun fired first, bullets raining down on the ceiling as debris fell on my head along with blood. 0

I couldn’t speak anymore; I bit down on the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight. With both hands gripping my AK-47, I ran desperately forward. 0

The ground near the Underground River was uneven; stalactites and stone pillars grew chaotically from below. I had to quickly discern whether any Blood-Eyed Monsters were hiding among them while jumping and running. 0

It seemed that our bad luck had passed. I ran for a while, highly focused, and surprisingly did not see a single Monster. It appeared they were all concentrated on the Ceiling. With Jack's gunfire echoing, green blood continuously rained down accompanied by sudden squeaks. 0

"They're afraid of gunfire," Jack shouted from behind me. 0

I suddenly stopped, pulling out the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight I had been biting down on, and turned to shout, "Then why did you stop shooting?" 0

Jack's Flashlight was flickering wildly about ten meters behind me as he approached. It seemed his stamina was poor; after just a short run, he couldn't keep up with my pace. 0

As he got closer, he called out, "My magazine is empty; I can't reload while running." 0

At that moment, I realized he wasn't Liu Squad Leader; he wasn't Left-Handed. For him to change magazines with one hand while running was already a challenge, and reloading with one hand was impossible. 0

This was a desperate situation. With his right arm immobilized, he couldn't use the AK-47, and there was no way I could reload for him without cover. Of course, we couldn't afford to stop. 0

I swung the muzzle of my AK-47 and Flashlight toward the Ceiling. Among the hanging, jagged Stalactites, I found no sign of the Blood-Eyed Monster. Naturally, if they remained still, it would be difficult for me to spot them at a glance. 0

The Flashlight quickly swept around me in a circle. Standing still waiting for Jack made me feel more anxious and fearful than running. 0

Suddenly, a gray shadow darted into my Flashlight's beam; it was the enemy that moved first. The suddenness left me uncertain whether it had been following us from the Ceiling or had been lurking here all along before making its move as my Flashlight dimmed. 0

I was confident in my Marksmanship. I also felt assured about hitting moving targets. Following its movement trajectory, I fired three shots; a massive creature crashed down with a loud thud not far from where I stood on the Ground. 0

All three bullets hit their mark, creating gaping wounds. Friends who have served in the military should know that when an AK-47 bullet strikes a target, the entry wound is small. However, inside the target's body, the bullet tumbles around. If it penetrates through the target, the exit wound will be a large hole. 0

At that moment, behind the monster lying on the ground, there was a massive gash, with its innards and green blood spilling out. It was clearly dead beyond any doubt. 0

As Jack ran past it, he licked his lips. I thought that if it weren't a matter of life and death, he would have taken a bite. 0

Jack staggered over to me, handing me three empty magazines and a bullet pouch. I took them and stuffed them into my backpack, telling him, "Run with me." 0

Jack asked in surprise, "Aren't you going to give me some bullets?" 0

I pointed at the monster still oozing blood on the ground. "By the time I load you up with bullets, its parents will have torn us apart. Let's run first, boss." 0

This monster was slightly tougher than the one I had killed by the Underground River. 0

Reluctantly, Jack followed me. He had no autonomy left. Without magazines for his Micro Submachine Gun, it was just a glorified stick. His stamina and injuries didn't allow him to act alone; strictly speaking, without me, he would struggle to move an inch or survive at all. Of course, the chances of surviving alongside me weren't great either. 0

I let Jack run ahead while I focused most of my attention on the ceiling. 0

So far, our main threat still came from above. Ever since I had taken down a few monsters on the ground, these creatures seemed very wary of coming down to the ground again, instead pursuing and threatening us from the ceiling. 0

Moreover, Jack's speed made me uneasy; I worried he might fall behind again. Without bullets, that stick of his couldn't guarantee his safety. 0

After running a few steps, I noticed that the surroundings had grown quiet. It seemed that by taking down one of the monsters lurking on the ceiling, they were reassessing our strength. Not only could we no longer see or sense their presence on the ground, but even the monsters above had vanished. 0

This was certainly good news. However, I didn't dare let my guard down and remained vigilant about any movements from the ceiling. 0

Fortunately, Jack wasn't fast; his stamina prevented him from jumping over large obstacles, so he could only choose relatively flat paths. This was important for me as most of my attention was on the ceiling, helping to avoid tripping or getting injured. 0

Jack's speed was slowing down, even though he had always been slow. He could feel it himself, stumbling as he walked, his body swaying precariously. He said to me, "If I kill another one, I damn well better eat something first. I'd rather be poisoned than starve." 0

He was running, though he maintained the motion of running without actually picking up speed. I wasn't walking fast either, yet I didn't fall behind. 0

"We might not get a chance to hit them," I replied to Jack calmly. 0
