I was surprised and grabbed Fatty and asked: 'Is someone following you? Who is it? ' 'This guy was too slippery, I didn't block him. It should be the Hakka People in this Village. They are more familiar with the terrain than me. You can’t even try to catch him. It would be good if you can get rid of him. ' Fatty After shaking off my hand hard. 'Go quickly, I hope I didn't get up so early. 'Going down from where we live is a winding stone road with stone steps carved out of the steep places. The morning air was very fresh and quiet. It was difficult to walk on the stone road without making any noise. Fatty was running very fast in front, and I tried my best to follow behind. When I arrived at Paddy Field at the bottom of the mountain, both of my knees started to get sore. On the stone road, I had to use my knees to control the weight of my footing every step I took. I almost ran down with my knees bent. I bent over and rubbed the air on my knees. Fatty turned around and took a deep look at the Village behind him. He shook his head at me and turned around to step onto the ridge of the field. The ridge of Paddy Field is very slippery. It is not necessary or possible to control the weight of your footing. Don't knock yourself down and just end up rolling in mud. ∮∽, This Paddy Field is not big. When Fatty and I ran to the other side of Paddy Field, the sun had not come out yet. Although we didn't fall down, our bodies were still splashed with reddish-brown mud, and our faces were covered with mud spots. After Paddy Field, there are five townhouse-like mountains, which appear in front of me very impressively. But we haven't reached the foot of the mountain yet and need to pass through a forest. I followed Fatty and walked around in the forest for a while, and found a spring with water gushing out. At least I washed my face and took care of the mud on my feet and body. Fatty found a rock to climb up and rest on. It was a huge flat pebble, big enough for two people to sleep on. At this time, the sun has shone into the Village, but the mountains behind us blocked the sun and kept us in shadow. I climbed up the rocks. Fatty pressed my shoulders and signaled not to stand up. Only then did I realize that this stone was hidden in the woods. From here, you can see the Village and Paddy Field from the gap between the trees, but it is difficult to see us from the opposite side. Fatty is observing the opposite side from the gap between the trees. For a moment, Fatty shook his head at me. 'This guy is so slippery, I really don't know how he got here. There is no shelter in Paddy Field, and he is not a loach. Can drill through the water. ' 'He followed? 'I looked around nervously. 'How should I know. ' Fatty shrugged. 'I haven't felt him yet. I'm with you, I didn't see him, I just felt that someone was following me through clues. ' I looked at the Paddy Field through the gap in the trees. It was flat and almost spanned Hakka Village. In other words, if you want to come here from Village, you must pass through Paddy Field, as long as this person follows us. We can definitely see this guy here. Unless I turn my head to Fatty.
"Is it possible that the person following you doesn't live in the Village?" I pointed to the mountains behind us. "What if they live on the Summit? They could have seen you walking past the Paddy Field from up there and decided to follow you."
"That's impossible," Fatty frowned.
"Why is it impossible? Give me your reasoning."
"You saw it too; from our Bamboo House, we can only see a corner of the Bamboo House on the Summit. They can see our Bamboo House but not the Paddy Field—it's a matter of angle."
"Don't limit this person to just the Summit and the Bamboo House. As long as they don't live on the Village side, any of the five peaks could be their vantage point. Just like this observation point you've chosen, they would pick a better one. What we should consider now is why they are following you. What is their purpose?"
Fatty scratched his scalp, which was beginning to sprout stubble. "Have they shifted their target? Or is there some secret here that we don't know about?"
I shook my head. "Shifting targets is unlikely. If they wanted to deal with you, you being out here alone would be their best opportunity. They would at least try something; it wouldn't just be simple stalking. It's more believable that there's something here they don't want us to know. It's puzzling that Tang Yumo lives alone on the Summit."
Fatty turned to look at the five peaks behind us, pointing at the middle one and an adjacent peak. "I've been up those two mountains, though I didn't climb to the Summit. I haven't been up the other three. Regardless of that person, I need to see Tang Yumo today; I think I can get some information from her."
I nodded. "But I'll handle communicating with Tang Yumo; I don't want to see you scare Miss Ren to death."
"She's not that fragile," Fatty scoffed. However, seeing my determined gaze fixed on him, he helplessly shrugged his shoulders. "Alright, I hope you can get something out of her; otherwise, today will be a wasted trip."
The forest was dense and filled with rocky terrain, making it unsuitable for farming. From here, the land began to rise, resembling the base of five mountains.
We quickly reached the foot of the central mountain and started climbing without resting. All the weight was on Fatty; I only had a handgun and a machete at my waist, leaving my water bottle in Fatty's backpack. If he could manage, then I certainly could too.
As we climbed, I noticed that all five mountains had similar shapes, each featuring a gentle slope. Climbing up from this side was easier; we didn't even need climbing gear—scrambling up was quite manageable. The gentle slope was covered with vegetation, and trees as thick as my waist were common. Looking up from afar, the greenery at the summit appeared even denser. According to Fatty, there was an open area at the top with even thicker vegetation.
After climbing for a while, we could finally see what lay behind the mountain—this was my first glimpse of that view.
It was a vast forest, larger than any area we were familiar with, completely different from Fatty's drawn map. The island in this swamp was centered around the entrance to the Underground Cavern according to Fatty's initial map; however, it seemed that wasn't accurate at all.
I signaled for Fatty to stop and made a resting gesture.
Fatty clicked his tongue and dropped his backpack on the ground before coming over to me. "Your physical condition is too poor; once this is over, you need to train hard."
I waved my hand dismissively. "It's not about the physique. I want to ask how you drew that map; it's completely out of proportion. This forest takes up a huge part, yet it's not even on your map."
"Don't mention it. You know as well as I do that you can't see anything behind those mountains unless you climb up here. These mountains block everything behind them completely. I only discovered this forest back there after climbing up yesterday."
Fatty turned towards the dense rainforest.
However, Fatty suddenly froze, pointing a finger at the edge of the rainforest and exclaimed, "Over there."
The sun had fully risen, casting bright, glaring light, but all I could make out was the lush green treetops; the interior of the forest was completely hidden beneath the canopy, and I couldn't see a thing.
I had no idea what Fatty saw; all I could see was Fatty jumping up suddenly, grabbing his backpack, and rushing down the mountain while slinging it over his shoulder.
"Keep up with me. Chase!"
