"Why is there only one? Aren't these creatures supposed to be social?" I whispered to Fatty, as if the Mountain Demon could hear and understand my words. I must have been scared out of my wits at that moment. 0

"Do I even need to ask? That one is the Mountain Ape King; the other Mountain Demons are hiding in the forest or on the Summit. We need to retreat quickly; don't wait for it to launch an attack. These creatures won't attack humans easily, as long as we back off, they won't pursue us." 0

Fatty was backing away. "Come on, big brother, stop dawdling and follow me." 0

"I'm not dawdling! If I hadn't reminded you, you might have already been surrounded by the Mountain Demons. You're the one dawdling." 0

I shot back at him while keeping my feet moving quickly down the mountain. Of course, I couldn't just run downhill; if I started sprinting down from here, I'd definitely crash into a tree or a rock halfway down, which would be no different from dying under a Mountain Demon attack. 0

Suddenly, a howl echoed behind us, different from the initial metallic shriek we had heard. This sound was clearly some sort of signal, like a charge call. 0

I couldn't help but turn around. At that moment, the upper half of the Mountain Demon on the Summit had fully emerged. Its head was slightly raised, revealing several sharp fangs like steel nails. With that roar, dozens of brown figures leaped out from behind the Mountain Demon. 0

The Mountain Demon horde was on the move. Dozens of them sprang out from behind the Mountain Ape King but didn't linger on the Summit; instead, they jumped straight toward the trees surrounding the cliff. 0

The closest distance between the cliff and the surrounding forest was about ten meters. Initially, I had even considered building a cableway from a tree to the Summit because those trees were tall—some even taller than the Summit itself—making that idea feasible. 0

But now, the Mountain Demons leaped across that distance in an instant, posing a direct threat to me and Fatty. A few of them almost 'whooshed' down to the ground and bared their teeth at us, exhaling hot breath with a hissing sound. 0

My hand instinctively reached for my pistol at my waist; I knew I couldn't take on these beasts empty-handed—that would be incredibly foolish. A single adult Mountain Demon could very well take my life. They were astonishingly strong; while they might not tear me apart like in those war dramas, ripping off an arm would definitely be within their capabilities. 0

At that moment, however, Fatty grabbed my hand that was reaching for my gun. "Run! Don't provoke them." 0

What the hell? What was wrong with Fatty? Did he really want to wait until those beasts pounced before taking action? 0

Fatty yanked me behind him, pushing me down the mountain. 0

I wasn't Fatty; his sturdy frame had absorbed the falls like a cushion. If I fell on this steep slope, I would likely meet my end here. The best outcome would be a fracture. But with Fatty's strong push from behind, I couldn't stop myself, and I cursed loudly as I rushed downhill. 0

"Fat Man, you're going to get me killed!" 0

"Shit, why are you running so fast? Are you trying to die? Wait for me!" 0

Fatty shouted from behind, blaming me for the situation. With that much force behind me, how could I possibly stop? 0

The slope at the peak was particularly steep; once you started running, there was no stopping. I could only focus intently on what lay ahead, dodging large rocks and trees. All I could do was try to survive for another second because every moment held the potential for disaster. I no longer heard Fatty's voice; my concentration was too intense to spare a glance back. 0

Suddenly, something struck my heel, and my body lost control as I fell backward onto the ground. But that didn't stop me; my back scraped against the rocky surface littered with thorns, sending sharp pain through me. I desperately reached out to grab anything within reach. 0

A thick, powerful hand grasped one of mine with a firm grip. Without needing to look, I knew it was Fatty. However, he only held onto my hand without stopping my fall. I saw him also falling backward, sliding down the slope while desperately digging his feet into the ground, carving two deep grooves in the soil. 0

I quickly understood what was happening and yelled in frustration, "Damn it, you knocked me down!" 0

"Stop whining! Use your feet to slow down! If you don't stop soon, you'll fall apart!" 0

Fortunately, when I fell, my feet were pointed downhill; if it had been the other way around, I'd be done for. Like Fatty, I immediately pushed down hard with my heels to create friction. I lifted my upper body as much as possible so I could see the path ahead and protect my head. My back was probably already scraped raw. 0

We were sliding down too quickly; thankfully, we managed to maintain our positions. Any other position would have meant instant disaster. 0

However, our current position wasn't ideal either; we couldn't adjust our direction while sliding down. If there were any obstacles in our path, we would either crash into them or change our posture—both outcomes were equally disastrous. To make matters worse, I spotted a large protruding rock directly in our path. 0

"Roll over! Turn over!" Fatty shouted at me. 0

I knew that if I rolled over, I'd avoid that rock. But in this state, rolling over wasn't easy. Plus, my belly wasn't as tough as my back; I worried that before I could roll over again, my stomach would be cut open and my insides would spill out. 0

"What the hell are you dawdling for?!" 0

As Fatty let out a hoarse roar, he gripped my hand tightly, and I felt as if I were being flipped over like a pancake. 0

"Damn it." 0

I cursed under my breath. A sharp pain shot through my abdomen and lower body. But that wasn't the worst part; I had been flipped over involuntarily, with no chance to protect myself. My head, which had been raised, hit the ground first, and I felt as if my nose had almost vanished in an instant. However, as I lifted my head again, I was met with an incredible sight. 0

The mound was receding from me, and atop it stood the Mountain Ape King. But beside the Mountain Ape King, a white figure appeared quietly. It was a long white dress that flowed down to the feet. The wind at the summit was strong, causing the dress to flutter violently like a flag, outlining the graceful figure of the White-Dressed Woman. 0

I could almost hear the rustling of the dress in the wind, feeling that it and its owner could be swept away by the mountain breeze at any moment. Along with the white dress dancing in the wind was long black hair, but beneath that dark hair were a pair of melancholic and chilling eyes that sent shivers down my spine. 0

It was Tang Yumo; I never expected to see her in such a situation. 0

She looked down at me coldly from above, as if I were not even a living being. (To Be Continued...) 0
