Accompanied by Fatty's fierce voice was his equally fierce gaze. I thought to myself, if he had initially controlled this Hakka Man, at this moment, the throat of the Hakka People would have already been slit.
However, I did not pull the trigger. Although I felt the urge to shoot, I was more interested in uncovering the truth. Why did this Hakka People want to harm me? How did he know I would appear in Zhenfeng County? And was he truly a Hakka People, or just a Vietnamese disguised in Hakka skin?
"You have a chance to explain yourself. Don't test my patience. If you can't give me a satisfactory answer, I won't hesitate to send you on your way to hell."
My tone was calm, as if discussing an ordinary matter, because I was absolutely determined to kill this person. While I had a softer side to my personality, when faced with someone intent on taking my life, my heart could harden. Moreover, I realized that between our two groups, we were already at odds; it was highly likely that only one side would survive.
"I let him go."
The speaker was Tang Yumo. There was no panic on her face, just an indescribable melancholy. Blood flowed from her neck wound onto her chest, appearing particularly striking against her pale skin. Her complexion remained as pale as ever, tinged with a faint blue under the reflection of the surrounding red and yellow flames. There was no trace of life in her expression.
"It seems you're eager to die; I can help you with that. That one is your lover, right? Do you think I'll let him go just because of your words?" Fatty snarled.
"Don't you dare insult her!" Despite being under my muzzle, the Hakka People shouted defiantly as blood vessels bulged in his neck.
I shot Fatty a glance, signaling him to let me take over the questioning. Then I turned my attention back to Tang Yumo.
"Why? We shouldn't have had any interactions back then; why did you want to kill me? Who instructed you to do this? This person must have offered you something substantial."
"No benefits, no one instructed me; I am the planner of this matter. As for the reason..."
Tang Yumo raised her hand to touch her forehead, looking quite fatigued—perhaps due to blood loss. I had no intention of showing mercy or allowing her to use this as a delay tactic; I stared at her expressionlessly, unmoved by her plight.
"Because you will destroy our Village."
"Bullshit." Fatty couldn't help but curse.
I scoffed as well. Wasn't that just nonsense?
If she thought I would destroy their Village now, I would admit that, at this moment, I truly had that intention. But the ambush happened in Zhenfeng County. Before I even entered this Valley, I didn't even know there was a Hakka Village here. Wasn't she just asking for trouble?
I was furious at her words, my laughter laced with murderous intent. But before I could explode, Tang Yumo suddenly swayed and collapsed to the ground. It was then that I noticed her clothes were already soaked through, drenched in blood.
I shot a glare at Fatty. The anger inside me was boiling; if she died, there would be no point in asking anything. The remaining two Hakka People combined wouldn't know as much as Tang Yumo did. I was counting on prying some useful information from her.
I nudged A San, who was standing behind me, with my elbow. "Tie them all up."
Before the Vietnamese could react, the Hakka People under my Muzzle reacted violently, shouting, "Unless you kill me, otherwise—"
A San's knife ended his sentence.
Perhaps to show loyalty and make up for the unclear stance earlier, the Vietnamese didn't wait for the Hakka People to explode; he knocked him down with a swift blow. Thankfully, it wasn't a fatal strike; otherwise, I would really suspect he was trying to silence someone.
Even though he was knocked down with the back of a knife, the Hakka People were still in bad shape. Blood streamed down his face; his body curled up like a shrimp as he convulsed, his bright eyes rolling back to reveal only the whites.
I cursed A San in my heart. I felt that if the situation were reversed and the Hakka People had the upper hand, it would likely be me lying on the ground convulsing while this Vietnamese would definitely have no qualms about dealing a lethal blow to protect himself.
However, I didn't have time to dwell on this matter for now. I glanced at A San and coldly said, "Search them. Take out anything that could threaten us."
A San let out a sound of acknowledgment and jumped out, heading straight for the fallen Tang Yumo.
I was furious. If I could reach him, I would definitely kick him to death. What the hell was he thinking at a time like this? He had the half-dead Hakka People right under his feet, yet he chose to leap over to Tang Yumo.
I fell silent.
Just because I couldn't kick A San didn't mean others couldn't. Fatty stood next to Tang Yumo and kicked A San away from behind me. Fatty was something else; he was practically a monster. With one kick, he could send a calf flying. The Hakka People he kicked was still unconscious. He clearly had no good feelings for A San, so this kick must have been pent-up frustration.
A San flew backward but didn’t lose consciousness; he lay on the ground groaning.
I saw that the Vietnamese were temporarily incapacitated, so I sent Buasong to search them. Communicating was still an issue, so it was better if I did it myself.
I turned to Xiao Ting and said, "Check if Tang Yumo has any contraband on her. Anything that isn’t something a girl must carry should be taken out."
With that, I crouched down to search the two Hakka People.
I efficiently pulled everything out from their bodies. One of the Hakka People had a dozen knives strapped to his waist; it seemed this guy was skilled with throwing knives, which made me feel a wave of fear. Thankfully, I found them; otherwise, I could have been ambushed at any moment.
Tang Yumo didn’t have anything too outrageous on her. Xiao Ting bandaged the wound on her neck and gently tried to wake her up.
"What happened to me? Feeling this weak isn't a good sign."
Tang Yumo's first words upon waking indicated she still hadn’t realized she had lost too much blood.
"Be grateful. You're just weak; we have more seriously injured people here," Fatty scoffed.
"That's different. Here, in the current situation, external injuries aren't the main issue; mental weakness is a huge problem. We might not have much time left."
"Well, you don't have a major problem either; you fainted due to blood loss. You've already been bandaged." I looked at her expressionless face. However, I didn’t want her to change the subject. I needed to take advantage of her weakness and lack of resistance to ask what I wanted to know.
"At this point, you should understand the situation clearly. Regardless, we won't give you too much freedom until we escape. In other words, if we are destined to die here, you will accompany us in death. That's your purpose, isn't it? Perhaps we should start with why you wanted to assassinate me."
Tang Yumo touched her bandaged wound and clothing, realizing that she had indeed fainted from excessive blood loss, which oddly brought her some relief.
"I know it's hard for you to believe what I'm saying, but this is the truth. Don't you realize that you are different from others? Of course, you wouldn't notice my differences either. But I know you; I know you will destroy us. This is fate. Only by killing you can I possibly save my people."
