I have never tested my IQ, somewhat like what Fatty said, afraid of being hurt by the results.
In my time, being able to get into university meant I couldn't be too low in IQ, but I leaned towards the humanities, which proved that my intelligence wasn't that high. At most, I was slightly above people like Fatty and Huang Hai.
I harbor resentment towards those with an IQ around 10; anyone higher than that doesn't bother me because there's no comparison. I always view them as aliens. I never expected to encounter a living one today.
"Jack, we can't go back for now. At least I can't accompany you back to the Hakka People's Valley. My current position is quite awkward; Cao Mingzhe thinks I'm important, the Academy wants me to be their spokesperson, and I can't even imagine the military's attitude. In short, I can't go anywhere right now.
Actually, you're in a similar situation. Although you have some freedom, all the awakened ones among the Hakka People are here. Even if you went to Hakka Village, they wouldn't allow you into the Underground Cavern. Do you have anything valuable to exchange with the Hakka People? If you do, perhaps they would give you a chance to enter the Underground Cavern.
But they won't accept money. Although the Hakka People aren't wealthy, they wouldn't open their sacred grounds for cash. If you don't have something of Cao Mingzhe's caliber to trade, don't even think about it.
Cao Mingzhe used that piece of iron as a bargaining chip to gain access to the Underground Cavern. You won't have that opportunity; just give up on that idea."
There was still one thing I didn't quite understand: if someone wanted to come out of the Hakka People's Underground Cavern—of course, I'm referring to entering its deepest level at the Eternal Gate—they must possess the key to the Eternal Gate or have me accompany them. It seems that I am like a key there, and Cao Mingzhe intends to use me in that way.
The key to the Eternal Gate. He wouldn't even think about it. That thing is tied to the Task Force's base; even if he left, he wouldn't be able to get it from Cao Mingzhe. I figured that obtaining the key from Cao Mingzhe would require someone of Wolverine's caliber.
But what I fear more is him dragging me along. For now, we are on the same side, and I still need his help and cooperation. I need him to use his special status to bring the Antimatter Bomb into Lop Nur's Underground Passage. If he truly threatens me with this matter, I wouldn't know how to choose.
Jack furrowed his brows and thought for half a moment: "Zhang, if we can survive this time, you have to promise me you'll accompany me once to the Hakka People's Underground Cavern. I'm not willing to let it go."
I nodded solemnly. In truth, I really wanted to go with him; if you've been to Lop Nur's Underground Passage, there's no need or desire left for visiting the Hakka People's Underground Cavern. The two are similar in some ways, but Lop Nur is more powerful and mysterious.
"Jack, there's one more thing I need your help with: that Antimatter Bomb."
"I know; you want me to set it off." Jack's expression shifted from excitement to disappointment in an instant. "Actually, it doesn't make much difference; wherever it goes off underground in Lop Nur, no one can escape. Fine, I'll do my best to time it right so it doesn't trigger too early."
"That's not what I'm talking about. Jack, although once we go down there this bomb will be under your control, how we get it down there might also depend on you. Your status should allow for some privacy, right? Use your identity to bring it down!"
"That's impossible!" Jack exclaimed. "I came here under an agreement with the Chinese side; even toothbrushes are checked before entering Lop Nur—no instruments or equipment are allowed."
Upon hearing this, I was stunned. It turned out all my efforts with Jack had been in vain.
I left Jack's villa with a dark expression. Jack was polite enough to see me to the door, but he didn't offer to drive me back.
The upscale villa area was indeed different. There were no buses around. With no other options, I had to call a taxi back to my shop, which was quite far away, and I knew that would leave me with even less money in my pocket.
My mind was in turmoil, mainly worrying about Fatty. But the one who had added to my frustration was Jack.
He had seen and dealt with the Antimatter Bomb and could even be considered an expert in that area. When I consulted him about its size, he pointed to a wardrobe in the room and said, "About that big."
I glanced at the wardrobe and felt overwhelmed. A thing that large—how could it possibly be brought into the country without involving Lop Nur? It seemed unimaginable.
However, Jack's subsequent words sparked a glimmer of hope in me. "We're conducting experiments and not considering its shape or portability. If it were for weapon manufacturing, we would think about design and safety. But its weight is likely difficult to reduce; just think about it—it's a vacuum magnetic levitation system, and we can't afford to lose even one coil that generates magnetic force."
Contact Fatty? No, I decided to first check with Xiao Ting for any updates. Perhaps that wife slave of Fatty would have contacted Xiao Ting.
Taking a taxi was too expensive for me; I might as well drive my own car. It felt absurd—here I was, driving a Maybach but complaining about taxi fares.
When I got out of the car, I insisted that the driver give me change. Then I hopped into my parked Black Mercedes SUV.
I heard the taxi driver behind me teasingly say, "Rich and willful. Your last name is Hu, right? You're Hu Hanzan."
I was checking the fuel gauge when I heard his comment and jumped out of the car. "Yes, I'm Hu! And I'm also Hulao! What's it to you?"
With that, I closed the car door and entered my shop.
Driving the Maybach was smooth and comfortable, but it consumed too much fuel. For someone like me pretending to be wealthy, filling up once made me break into a cold sweat. The fuel gauge was low; somehow, I had to get some money from Huang Hai today—I couldn't keep putting myself in such a tight spot. Who knew if I'd make it back from Lop Nur? If this trip ended badly there, all my possessions would belong to Huang Hai.
I realized I couldn't let myself suffer losses; I needed to take advantage of these opportunities while they lasted.
As soon as I entered the shop, I saw a familiar face negotiating business with Huang Hai. It seemed they had reached an agreement and were at the stage of paying a deposit. The deposit was cash.
Seeing this opportunity before me, I knew that getting money out of Huang Hai's pocket would be challenging; this chance was rare.
I stood by watching as they finalized their agreement, then reached out my hand. "The deposit goes to me."
Huang Hai's eyes widened. "Brother Qiang, this is the business I negotiated."
I shot him a sideways glance. "Do you not know who the boss is here?"
Then I turned to my acquaintance. "Boss Liu, you know, right?"
"Of course." Boss Liu pulled out several stacks of brand new Renminbi from his bag and placed them in my hands. "Fifty thousand, Zhang Boss, make sure to keep it safe. I'll come to collect the goods later."
With that, Boss Liu left.
I stuffed the stacks of Renminbi into my pocket and said to Huang Hai, "Get the goods ready for him, don't mess it up."
As I turned to leave, I heard a loud sound behind me, like something hitting the table. It couldn't have been a hand; the noise was too loud. If it had been a hand, it would probably be swollen.
