Ethan remained with his back turned to Sofia, his shoulders trembling slightly, as if he were lost in an endless fog with no way out. His voice was low and hoarse, like a long-unused string being reluctantly plucked. "How long has it been...?" The words seemed to struggle out from deep within him, as if he could hardly believe the reality himself. His silhouette remained rigid, like a lifeless shell, sitting there helplessly. 0

When Sofia heard Ethan's voice, her entire body jolted. That simple question left her in shock, tears welling up in her eyes and spilling down her cheeks uncontrollably. This was the first time in months she had heard Ethan speak up, the moment she had longed for and desired. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart, but the emotions buried deep within her had completely spiraled out of control. 0

"Ethan..." she called softly, her voice filled with endless tenderness and suppressed sorrow, as if each word carried the weight of her pain and waiting over the past three months. She gently placed her hands on Ethan's shoulders, feeling his emaciated frame tremble slightly. 0

Taking another deep breath, she began to explain slowly. "Three months ago, after you returned from the clinic..." Her voice quivered as she recalled a terrifying nightmare. "You changed; you were no longer the person I knew." 0

Sofia's heart felt heavy, almost suffocating her. Remembering that night brought a wave of anguish, but she knew she had to tell Ethan what had happened. She continued, "That night, you suddenly locked yourself in the bathroom. I stood outside, knocking on the door and calling your name, but you didn’t respond at all..." 0

Her voice trembled as tears streamed down her face once more. The memory of that night was still vivid in her mind, cutting through her heart like a knife. "Then... I heard the sound of glass shattering." She spoke softly, as if the recollection was suffocating her. "I knew something was wrong, but no matter how much I called for you, you just wouldn’t respond." 0

Sofia's throat tightened further as she lowered her head, tears continuously slipping from the corners of her eyes. Her voice was hoarse and strained as if struggling to push through from her throat. "I was terrified, Ethan. I really didn’t know what to do... I could only call the police." She recalled that night’s helplessness as if reliving that nightmare over and over again. 0

"When the police forced open the door, I saw you..." Sofia's voice nearly choked with emotion as she returned to that moment of despair. "You were covered in blood, your face was bruised all over, and there were shards of glass everywhere... Blood was flowing down, and you didn’t even know what had happened." 0

Ethan's back remained stiff; he sat there motionless as if trying to digest everything she said. Sofia gently held him tighter, as if trying to pull him back from this darkness. Her tone was soft yet filled with pain. "The doctors... they said you had lost your mind and brought you here for treatment; it’s been over three months now." 0

Sofia felt overwhelmed by a sense of powerlessness; she could feel the distance between herself and Ethan growing wider no matter how hard she tried to bridge it. "In these three months... you’ve barely communicated with anyone; you’ve been locked away in your own world every day. Neither I nor the medical staff could reach you..." 0

Her voice grew increasingly somber as if sinking into an unending darkness. "I... I've waited so long for you, Ethan..." Sofia's voice trembled again, filled with tears and choking sobs. "I’ve been waiting for you to come back to me, waiting for you to speak to me again, waiting for you to become the person I once knew..." 0

Her arms remained tightly wrapped around Ethan's shoulders as if trying to convey her presence through touch, but he still faced away from her like a shadow far away in the distance, making it impossible for her to truly get close. Tears continued to fall from Sofia's eyes, soaking Ethan's hospital gown, yet she could not stop this flood of emotions. 0

"Ethan..." Her voice trembled, filled with love and pain, as if she were desperately searching for the fragments of his soul. "Please... come back." 0

Ethan listened to Sofia's words, and his entire body suddenly jolted, as if struck by a powerful current. His shoulders shook slightly, unable to believe the painful truths she spoke. He still faced away from her, unable to see the tears in her eyes or the despair on her face, but her words pierced his heart like knives, again and again. 0

He remained silent, not responding immediately. Each of Sofia's words carried heavy emotion that he could not ignore. It seemed he was struggling to digest it all, to understand the reality he had once overlooked and avoided. His body began to tremble slightly, as if the tidal wave in his heart had finally broken through the solid barriers within him. 0

After a while, Ethan's back slowly relaxed, his previously rigid posture gradually softening. He lowered his head, his shoulders drooping slightly, as if he finally understood and accepted what had happened. His hand gently lifted, trembling as it slowly rested on Sofia's hand that was wrapped around his shoulder, his fingertips quivering as they touched her skin with a tender apology. 0

"I... I'm back," Ethan's voice was still hoarse, but this time it held a hint of warmth and regret. His tone was soft and cautious, as if each word were slowly unlocking a tightly closed door. "I'm sorry... for making you worry." 0

Those words shone like a glimmer of light in a torrential downpour, instantly illuminating the emotions that had been suppressed in Sofia's heart for so long. Hearing Ethan finally respond to her, that familiar voice filled with apology and tenderness made her emotions uncontrollable; she completely broke down. 0

Sofia's eyes blurred with tears in an instant; her breathing became rapid as tears poured out like a flood. She suddenly pulled her hand from Ethan's waist and began to pound on his back forcefully, like an outlet for her pent-up feelings. Her palms struck Ethan's back repeatedly, but each hit lacked strength; instead, they were filled with a mix of pain and anger. 0

"Do you... do you know?!" Sofia cried out, tears streaming down her face, her voice thick with uncontainable sobs and fury. "These past few months... how much I've suffered? Do you know what I've been waiting for every single day? Do you know how scared I am, scared that you might never come back?!" 0

With every word she spoke, her hands hit Ethan's back harder, each strike releasing the despair and helplessness within her. Tears continued to drip onto Ethan's back, the sound of her palms hitting him intertwined with her cries, filling the room with her uncontrollable emotions. 0

"Why did you make me face all of this alone?" Sofia's voice grew hoarse; tears surged forth like a dam breaking, her words fragmented and laden with indescribable pain. "Do you know how afraid I am... afraid that you might never return, afraid that you'll be trapped in those nightmares forever..." 0

Her fists gradually lost their strength; her palms rested on Ethan's back as tears soaked her cheeks. Sofia could not stop crying; her emotions spiraled out of control. Her hands finally fell weakly onto Ethan's shoulders, her chest heaving violently as her throat ached from choking back sobs. 0

"Do you know... I... I think about it every day..." Sofia's voice quivered, barely above a whisper. "Will I lose you? Will I never see the Ethan I know again..." 0

Ethan remained with his back turned to her, silently enduring each punch and every word of sorrow she expressed. His shoulders still trembled slightly, and he gently placed his fingers on Sofia's hand, trying to convey a hint of comfort and regret. Yet he knew that no matter what he said, he could never make up for the pain she had endured over the past three months. 0

"I'm sorry..." he whispered softly, his voice filled with remorse and regret. "I'm truly sorry... for all the suffering you've been through." 0

Sofia leaned weakly against Ethan's back, tears streaming down her face as if they were releasing all the pain and repression buried deep within her. For every day of those three months, she had been waiting for this moment, waiting for Ethan to return to her side. Now that it had finally come, she could no longer control her emotions and could only release them through tears and embraces. 0
