I scoffed, "Have you forgotten? Last time your bell fell off, I helped you fix it."
"You said it was inconvenient for you to wear, so I let you keep it for now."
Ma Hongkuan paused for a moment, "Did my mom ask you to pass this to me?"
As he spoke, he directly placed the bracelet into his bag.
"Forget it, our things will eventually belong to both of us as husband and wife."
I snorted coldly, "Who says we're husband and wife?"
Ma Hongkuan tugged at the corner of his mouth, " Fen, stop messing around."
"Panpan may have made a mistake today, but after all, she is just a child. Don't hold it against her."
" Xiao Ran also realizes her mistake; she’s worried you might run out alone and get hurt..."
I interrupted him, "Worried I might get hurt?"
"You're worried about how to explain things to the the Ma Family, right?"
Ma Hongkuan's expression changed slightly, " Fen, don't be so sarcastic."
"We're not even married yet, and you can't tolerate Xinran and Panpan?"
Me being sarcastic? Me not tolerating them?
I was so furious that my whole body trembled, wishing I could slap Ma Hongkuan.
" Ma Hongkuan, do you even have a conscience?"
Ma Hongkuan frowned, " Fen, how did you become like this?"
" Xiao Ran said that even if you marry me, you still can't compete with her."
I was taken aback for a moment before bursting into laughter. "I can't compete with her?"
" Ma Hongkuan, are you stupid?"
"She's a widow, parading around with a child in front of you. Can't you see what that means?"
Ma Hongkuan's face stiffened. " Fen, you..."
I let out a cold snort. "Or are you eager for it?"
Ma Hongkuan's face turned red. " Fen, don't speak so harshly."
" Xiao Ran was just trying to remind me, nothing more."
I scoffed. "A kind reminder?"
" Ma Hongkuan, don't you know she's a widow?"
"Her husband, your comrade, died only two years ago."
"Are you really so impatient to get close to her?"
Ma Hongkuan opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.
I continued, "Is this how you honor your deceased comrade?"
His expression changed drastically, his body swaying as if he could barely stand.
He awkwardly turned to leave. " Fen, I'm not going to argue with you."
"I'm going to get the Marriage Certificate. Take some time to reflect on this."
He left quickly, almost as if he were fleeing.
I slumped to the ground, my heart aching.
This was my fiancé.
A man who was so eager to approach someone else.
A man who treated marriage like a joke.
How foolish I was.
In my past life, I had been bound by marriage for over twenty years.
Just when I finally broke free, I fell into the trap woven by Ma Hongkuan.
I took a deep breath and wiped away my tears.
It's okay; I still have a chance.
A chance to change my fate.
The next day, I went to my teacher to pick up the train ticket. Worried that I might not be able to get a seat, my teacher had already arranged for someone to buy the ticket for me and even contacted people in the Northwest to take care of me. After having lunch with my teacher, I went out in the afternoon to buy some local specialties to bring back for my roommates.
On the last night, I lay down in bed early, thinking I would have trouble sleeping, but surprisingly, I fell asleep quickly. In the morning, I handed a letter I had written to the hotel front desk and asked them to send it for me. After checking out, I dragged my suitcase and boarded the train, beginning my new life.
I spent two days on the train, feeling drowsy and not sleeping well. Once I arrived at school, I hurriedly completed the enrollment procedures and plunged into a rigorous study schedule.
