A small black shadow flitted gracefully like a feather, nimbly jumping from rooftop to rooftop along the street. Occasionally, a glimmer of light danced around it, resembling twinkling stars in the night sky.
However, that light quickly faded. With another flash, two sparkling points of light appeared on the opposite eaves. It seemed to be a playful little dog, but who had ever seen a flying dog?
Unless...
Yun Daoyun quietly tucked away his handkerchief and neatly slipped on his half-polished boots. Then, without making a sound, he followed after it, his footsteps as light as a breeze.
Wan Qiu lay dejectedly on a beam, mumbling softly to herself with her brows furrowed into a knot. "Didn’t Miao Miao the Cat Demon say there were handsome men everywhere down the mountain? Why haven’t I seen a single one?"
She pouted in dissatisfaction and darted around the rooftop for a while. But losing patience, she swayed and revealed her human form.
Gently landing on the ground, she strolled leisurely to an old tree with a crooked neck, leaned against its trunk, and let out a long sigh, preparing to take a break.
Half-asleep and half-awake, she suddenly felt someone lightly tap her shoulder.
Wan Qiu instantly became alert, her eyes snapping open to reveal an exceptionally handsome man before her.
He wore a moonlight-colored long robe that fluttered gently in the wind. His cascading black hair was casually tied with a ribbon, with a few strands falling beside his cheek, adding to his carefree charm.
He smiled gently at her, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly to form an attractive curve, and then softly asked her how to get to Peach Blossom Winery.
Wan Qiu felt her head buzz as if the entire world was spinning around her; everything before her flickered like countless little stars dancing chaotically.
Calculating, she had lived for nearly five hundred years and had encountered many men, but never had she seen one as handsome as the one before her.
“Slurp—” Oh no, it seemed she had drooled. Wan Qiu snapped back to reality, her face flushing bright red. She hurriedly wiped her mouth with her sleeve, chuckling awkwardly to cover her embarrassment. Then, with a quick glance, she began to plot and decided to use her Charm Technique on the man.
As a Fox demon, Wan Qiu was somewhat of a "failure" among her kind, as she was rather ordinary in appearance.
Though she possessed Willow Brows, Apricot Eyes, and Cherry Lips, when combined, they could only barely be considered delicate. Compared to those breathtakingly beautiful Fox demon s who could captivate an entire city with a smile, she felt utterly insignificant.
Because of this, Wan Qiu had diligently studied the Fox sect Secret Technique —Charming Gaze—since childhood, hoping to leverage this skill for her own benefit.
She focused intently on employing her Charm Technique on the man for a while. Gradually, his gaze began to change; it became dreamy and hazy, as if enveloped in a thick fog that never lifted, glistening with an endless softness.
Seeing this change, Wan Qiu felt a surge of joy and seized the opportunity to tempt him. “Young Master, do you like me?” She tilted her head slightly, blinking her eyes and gazing at him expectantly.
“I do.” His voice was laced with a hint of daze as he responded to her question.
“Then would you marry me?”
Wan Qiu eagerly jumped straight to the point. She thought about how envious all the other spirits at Phoenix Mountain would be if she brought such a handsome man home. The more she imagined it, the happier she became, and a smile spread across her face.
“I would.” He still appeared somewhat dazed.
“Then let’s go back to your home,” Wan Qiu said excitedly, her eyes sparkling brightly.
The man lived in a courtyard on the outskirts of the city. Although the location was remote, it was peaceful.
Wan Qiu couldn't wait to set up the wedding chamber as soon as she arrived. With a flick of her wrist, the room was instantly adorned in vibrant red, filled with a festive atmosphere.
Her cheeks flushed as she took the man's hand and sat down by the bed, her heart racing like a little rabbit. She decided to help him change clothes first, and the thought of what was to come made her face even redder.
However, just as Wan Qiu reached out to pull open the man's shirt, a beam of golden light burst forth from his chest. The brightness was intense and blinding, illuminating the entire room in an instant.
Startled, Wan Qiu instinctively turned her head away. When she opened her eyes again, she was horrified to find herself unable to move. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and her heart sank with panic.
In a flurry of anxiety, she struggled against her immobility, but it was futile. Blinking rapidly, she then saw the man calmly placing a talisman on her forehead, his movements steady and precise.
