"Why do you have this photo?"
Lin Yuexi clearly remembered throwing this photo into the trash before she left. At that time, she couldn't bear to tear it apart.
"I think you misunderstood, Miss Lin," Lu Tingchen said, his face expressionless, but his voice was as cold as ice.
"This photo was forced upon me by an old friend. I kept it not for any other reason, but to remind myself how foolish I used to be."
Friend? Forced? Foolish?
Lin Yuexi fell silent; indeed, it had always been a joke she directed herself.
Wanqing, however, saw through everything.
"I say, are you two enemies? You act like you've eaten firecrackers the moment you meet," she laughed, trying to lighten the mood. "Our Yuexi is quite the catch. In foreign lands, handsome guys line up at the school gate just to pursue her."
"Is that so? Then why did Miss Lin come back to the country? Did she get tired of the handsome guys abroad and want something fresh?"
Lin Yuexi was choked up, unable to utter a word as her face flushed with anger.
Lu Tingchen left the hospital room with a dark expression.
"I mean," Wanqing gestured towards the door with her chin, "with such a handsome and wealthy man, what more could you want?"
"What do you mean?" Lin Yuexi replied nonchalantly, though a hint of disappointment lingered in her heart. "He hates me."
"How can I see that he has feelings for you?"
How is that possible? His attitude towards her was so terrible.
Wanqing noticed that Lin Yuexi was in a bad mood and seized the opportunity to change the subject.
The celebration dinner was held in the company’s banquet hall, where the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. Lin Yuexi wore a deep blue evening gown, looking both elegant and confident.
Lu Tingchen, dressed in a black suit, occasionally let his gaze linger on Lin Yuexi.
“Mr. Lu, Lawyer Lin, you both look stunning tonight,” a colleague raised a glass to congratulate them.
Lu Tingchen smiled slightly, his eyes fixed on Lin Yuexi. “Thank you. Tonight's success is thanks to Lawyer Lin's hard work.”
Lin Yuexi returned the smile, but felt a sense of unease in her heart. She sensed a subtle change in Lu Tingchen's attitude towards her, leaving her both confused and hopeful.
After the dinner, Lu Tingchen invited Lin Yuexi for a walk. They strolled through the company garden, with moonlight spilling over the path, surrounded by tranquility and peace.
“ Yuexi, I want to talk to you,” Lu Tingchen's voice broke the silence.
Lin Yuexi stopped and turned to look at him. “About what?”
Lu Tingchen took a deep breath, his expression turning serious.
“ Yuexi, I want to talk about us. I've realized that my feelings for you have gone beyond that of an ordinary boss and subordinate.”
Lin Yuexi's heart raced; she felt somewhat at a loss. “Mr. Lu, I…”
Had he taken something today? Why was he suddenly saying these things?
"Don't worry, I haven't been drinking. Nor have I taken any drugs." He spread his hands, trying to prove his point to her.
But she was startled and took a step back.
He took the opportunity to corner her against the wall, his warm breath enveloping her, causing Lin Yuexi to feel a bit flustered.
Unconsciously, she pushed him away. "Mr. Lu," she turned her head aside, trying to escape his grasp, but his arms surrounded her instead.
Lu Tingchen caught her flailing hand firmly.
"Have you never thought that I could be your man?"
Lin Yuexi's face flushed, feeling both shy and embarrassed.
A wave of complex emotions surged within Lin Yuexi as she looked at Lu Tingchen, tears shimmering in her eyes.
"Mr. Lu, I need time to process all of this."
Lu Tingchen nodded in understanding.
Watching her retreating figure, a satisfied smile spread across his handsome face.
