I slowly hung up the phone, my fingers trembling slightly, still lingering with the tension from pressing the end call button.
Turning around, she was still there, dark red liquid spreading out from beneath her, as if it had a life of its own, gradually creeping across the floor and forming a horrifying pool of blood that was shocking to behold.
Seeing such a scene gave me a strange illusion, as if I had stepped into another world. I instinctively took a small step back, my body stiffening slightly, my eyes filled with disbelief, yet everything before me felt so real.
I truly wished it were so, but the chances of that were less than one in ten thousand.
Ordinary people cannot truly enter another time and space, but I really hoped to do so; I desperately wished for it.
I raised my head slightly, gazing into the void, my lips moving gently as if silently praying for something.
About twenty minutes ago, I had personally killed this young woman.
Looking back now, that moment felt like it belonged to another lifetime, as if another version of me had done it. But I told myself my plan was perfect. My hands unconsciously clenched and then relaxed, trying to ease the complex emotions swirling within me.
The woman lying on the ground, now a corpse, was named Qin Su; she was my rival.
I had visited her home at one o'clock in the afternoon.
She pretended to welcome me warmly, wearing that seemingly friendly yet utterly annoying smile while ushering me inside with overly eager gestures.
She knew that I had grown up alongside her husband as childhood friends. She also knew I didn't like her and that I relied heavily on her husband. However, there were at least two things she didn't know.
I still liked him very much, and that couldn't be changed. As I thought of this, my gaze turned gentle yet sorrowful, the corners of my mouth drooping slightly, and my fingers instinctively tugging at the hem of my clothes.
A friend of a friend is not necessarily a friend, especially among women.
I frowned slightly, a flicker of ruthlessness flashing in my eyes.
At the moment I plunged the sharp knife into her abdomen, I saw an expression of disbelief and terror cross her face. Her eyes widened in shock, and her mouth opened wide as if to scream, but fear choked her voice.
I leaned closer to her, my body slowly inclining forward until I was almost touching her face. I observed her closely, even noticing that the makeup on her face carried a scent of death, a smell that faintly invaded my nostrils and was somewhat pungent.
Hmph, I didn't want to use sleeping pills just yet. I wanted her to feel the approach of death while she was still conscious, to experience the pain I once endured, to sense my despair and helplessness until she collapsed, losing her humanity in that moment.
Then I let out a sigh of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders. My shoulders relaxed slightly as I began to slowly remove the bloodstained dress from my body. My fingers meticulously unbuttoned it while standing beside the corpse, moving with an eerie calmness as if I were dealing with an ordinary object rather than a lifeless body.
When only my underwear remained, I took out a new outfit from my handbag and changed quickly.
Next, I needed to return the teacup she had used to welcome me and arrange the slippers back in place, erasing any signs of a visitor.
I bent down gently to pick up the teacup and carefully placed it back in its original position. My movements were so light that they barely made a sound. Then I arranged the slippers neatly, glancing around to ensure everything looked just as it had before.
There was nothing to be nervous about; there was no fear either. Although a corpse lay at my feet growing cold, she was no longer my rival. I had already forgiven her, I silently told myself. Yet my expression remained somewhat indifferent, with no trace of pity in my eyes.
I took out my phone and dialed his number.
He called himself He Fang, and I always referred to him as Xiao Fang. He was the one helping me, an indispensable piece in my plan. As I dialed the number, my mind raced, and my fingers tapped quickly on the phone screen.
Simply put, my alibi depended on him.
The call connected almost immediately.
"It's done. She's dead. Let's get started," I said in a calm tone, my voice devoid of any emotion as I stared at the body on the ground, my gaze somewhat vacant.
"You did it!"
The voice on the other end was hoarse with excitement, shouting, "It was you! You killed Xiao Fang!"
The sound pierced through the receiver, sharp and jarring, like a knife stabbing into my ear.
Upon hearing those words, I found myself at a loss for what to say. It felt as if I had been frozen in place, my thoughts blank for two seconds. My mouth opened slightly, but no sound came out. With what little strength I had left, I hung up the phone, my finger mechanically pressing the end call button with a sluggishness that felt foreign.
Turning to face the scene before me, I realized that someone had pulled me into another world. My body trembled slightly, confusion and fear filling my eyes as I looked around, but everything seemed blurred and indistinct.
