"Xue Ming, could it really be you from my past life?"
How could someone discover so many of my preferences in just a few days? And why is he being so nice to me? Is he trying to make up for what he owes me from our previous life, or...
I shook my head, not daring to think any further.
After school, Xue Ming asked me, "Which seat do you want in the classroom?"
I casually replied, "Anywhere."
He pointed to the fifth row by the window and suggested, "How about sitting there?"
I shook my head. "I don't want to sit there."
He looked surprised. "Why not?"
I couldn't be bothered to explain and just brushed him off with a few vague words. "I just don't want to sit there."
The next day, I sat right next to Ma Yuan.
Xue Ming frowned. "Aren't you going to sit there?"
I looked at him curiously. "Why would I sit there?"
Xue Ming's frown deepened. "But we agreed on that yesterday..."
I couldn't help but interrupt him. "When did I ever say I wanted to sit there?"
Xue Ming was taken aback for a moment before he said somewhat aggrieved, "You said it was fine wherever."
I was speechless.
At noon, I dragged Ma Yuan to the glasses store.
Ma Yuan looked a bit flustered. " Shanshan, why did you bring me here?"
I pointed at the blackboard. "Can you see the board clearly?"
Ma Yuan paused for a moment. "Not really..."
I smiled and said, "Then let's get you a pair of glasses."
Ma Yuan quickly waved his hands. "No way, I can't afford it..."
I pulled her to the entrance of the eyewear store. "I'll get you a pair, you don't have to pay."
Ma Yuan's face turned bright red. "No way, you've already helped me enough."
I ruffled her hair. "If you don't wear glasses, how are you going to tutor me?"
Only then did Ma Yuan agree.
On the way back to the classroom, Xue Ming suddenly jumped out from the stairwell.
He frowned, looking a bit upset. "Why didn't you sit in the spot we agreed on yesterday?"
I looked at him in confusion. "When did I ever agree to that?"
Xue Ming grew anxious. "But you said it was fine!"
I rolled my eyes at him. "Just because I said it was fine doesn't mean I wanted to sit there."
Xue Ming replied as if it were obvious, "Of course it does."
I scoffed. "I never asked you to let me sit there; you just got ahead of yourself."
Xue Ming was left speechless.
I couldn't be bothered with him and pulled Ma Yuan, trying to bypass him as we headed upstairs.
Xue Ming stubbornly grabbed my arm. "Why didn't you wait for me this morning?"
I looked at him in bewilderment. "Why should I wait for you?"
Xue Ming pressed his lips together. "Aren't we supposed to go to school together?"
I replied with an "Oh," realizing, "But I woke up late this morning and was afraid of being late, so I didn't wait for you. Did you wait for me?"
Xue Ming was momentarily taken aback and after a pause muttered, "I waited for you."
I raised an eyebrow. "Alright then, from now on I'll wait for you."
Before Xue Ming could say anything else, Lin Shuqin suddenly came down the stairs and blocked him.
I took Ma Yuan's hand and walked past him, heading upstairs.
Lin Shuqin lowered her voice, saying something I couldn't quite catch.
All I heard was, "...she doesn't love you at all..."
During the first class of the afternoon, Lin Shuqin passed by me and slipped a note into my hand.
The note contained only one sentence: "Stay away from Xue Ming."
I initially intended to ignore her, but seeing the hatred in her eyes made me change my mind.
Lin Shuqin stood in the corridor, waiting for me.
I walked over, and she looked at me with disdain. "If it weren't for you being fostered by the the Xue Family, you wouldn't even have the right to talk to me."
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?"
Lin Shuqin scoffed. "Do you really think Amin likes you?"
I chuckled softly. "At least he doesn't dislike me like he would a fly."
Lin Shuqin's expression immediately darkened. "You..."
