Liu Yuan and Chen Yan left the jewelry store with Beibei and sat down on a nearby sofa to rest.
Liu Yuan looked at Chen Yan and asked, "Does your family run a jewelry business?"
Chen Yan replied, "No."
Liu Yuan continued, "Then how come you bought those pieces so readily?"
Chen Yan explained, "My family doesn't deal in jewelry, but I have a friend whose family owns a jewelry store."
Liu Yuan pressed on, "So all these pieces you bought are from your friend?"
Chen Yan shook his head, "No."
Liu Yuan raised an eyebrow, "Not?"
Chen Yan confirmed, "No."
Liu Yuan was puzzled, "But you said you have a friend who owns a jewelry store?"
Chen Yan clarified, "I do have a friend whose family runs a jewelry store, but I didn't buy his store's jewelry."
Liu Yuan inquired further, "Then where did you buy these pieces?"
Chen Yan replied, "I bought them from another jewelry store."
Liu Yuan asked, "Why?"
Chen Yan explained, "I didn't want my friend to know I was buying jewelry for another woman."
Liu Yuan questioned him, "Why don't you want your friend to know?"
Chen Yan answered, "I don't want him to misunderstand."
Liu Yuan probed deeper, "Misunderstand what?"
Chen Yan replied, "Misunderstand that there's something inappropriate between us."
Liu Yuan looked at him curiously, "Is there something inappropriate between us?"
Chen Yan stated firmly, "Not at the moment."
Liu Yuan pressed on, "Will there be in the future?"
Chen Yan assured her, "There won't be."
Liu Yuan challenged him, "How can you be so sure?"
Chen Yan responded confidently, "Because I won't have anything inappropriate with you."
Liu Yuan asked again, "Why not?"
Chen Yan simply said, "No reason."
Liu Yuan then questioned him directly, "Do you think I'm not good enough for you?"
Chen Yan replied earnestly, "No."
Liu Yuan looked at him and asked, "Then why?"
Chen Yan looked back at her and replied, "No reason."
Liu Yuan continued, "Do you think I’m not good-looking?"
Chen Yan shook his head, "No."
Liu Yuan pressed on, "Then why?"
Chen Yan repeated, "No reason."
Liu Yuan then asked, "Do you think my personality is bad?"
Chen Yan answered, "No."
Liu Yuan persisted, "Then why?"
Chen Yan simply said, "No reason."
Liu Yuan inquired again, "Do you think my background is poor?"
Chen Yan replied, "No."
Liu Yuan followed up with, "Then why?"
Chen Yan stated once more, "No reason."
Liu Yuan asked, "Do you think I have low quality?"
Chen Yan responded, "No."
Liu Yuan pressed further, "Then why?"
Chen Yan reiterated, "No reason."
Liu Yuan questioned again, "Do you think I lack integrity?"
Chen Yan said, "No."
Liu Yuan continued to ask, "Then why?"
Chen Yan replied again, "No reason."
Liu Yuan then asked, "Do you think I’m not capable?"
Chen Yan answered, "No."
Liu Yuan pressed on with the same question, "Then why?"
Chen Yan repeated, "No reason."
Liu Yuan finally asked, "Do you think my profession is not good?"
Chen Yan looked at her. "No."
Liu Yuan looked at him. "Then why?"
Chen Yan looked at her. "No reason."
Liu Yuan looked at him. "Do you think my social status is low?"
Chen Yan looked at her. "No."

Liu Yuan challenged him further, "Do you think I'm not attentive enough?"
Chen Yan responded, "No."
Liu Yuan pressed, "Then why?"
Chen Yan replied, "No reason."
Liu Yuan continued, "Do you think I'm not generous enough?"
Chen Yan looked at her. "No."
Liu Yuan asked again, "Then why?"
Chen Yan answered, "No reason."
Liu Yuan finally asked, "Do you think I'm not giving enough?"
Chen Yan looked back at her. "No."
Liu Yuan pressed once more, "Then why?"
Chen Yan simply said, "No reason."
