Chen Yan received a message from Beibei and excitedly drove to the home of Liu Yuan and Beibei. Upon arrival, he found the house empty, with no one home, not even the nanny.
He wondered aloud, "Where is everyone?" Just then, Li Li came out to grab a takeout order and, upon seeing Chen Yan, shook her head sympathetically. "Xiaoyuan and Beibei are not here."
Chen Yan looked at her and asked, "Where did they go?"
Li Li replied, "I don't know."
After thinking for a moment, Chen Yan said, "I'll check the places where Beibei might go."
Li Li nodded in agreement. "Okay."
Chen Yan got back in his car and drove away. He headed to one of Beibei's favorite spots and, as he passed by the supermarket, he spotted a familiar figure sitting on a rocking horse.
It was Beibei.
Under the sunlight, Beibei was smiling brightly. Chen Yan felt his heart soften at the sight of her smile. He parked by the roadside, got out of the car, and walked towards her.
Beibei was playing and laughing on the rocking horse. As Chen Yan approached, she noticed him and immediately ran over. "Daddy!"
Chen Yan picked her up and asked, "Beibei, what are you doing here?"
Beibei replied with a grin, "I'm here to play!"
Chen Yan inquired further, "Where's your mom?"
Beibei looked at him and said, "Mommy is in the store."
Chen Yan then asked, "Where do you want to play? Daddy will take you."
Beibei's eyes lit up as she answered, "I want to go to the amusement park!"
"Alright," Chen Yan said with a smile. "Daddy will take you to the amusement park."
He took Beibei to the amusement park where they played for the entire afternoon. After they grew tired from all the fun, Chen Yan carried Beibei out of the park.
Looking down at her in his arms, he asked, "Beibei, did you have fun?"
Beibei nodded enthusiastically. "Yes!"
"Are you hungry?" Chen Yan continued.
Beibei looked up at him and replied, "I'm hungry."
Chen Yan looked at her and asked, "What do you want to eat?"
Beibei thought for a moment and replied, "I want a hamburger."
Chen Yan smiled at her, "Alright, Daddy will take you to get a hamburger."
After they finished eating hamburgers, he looked at Beibei and asked, "Beibei, where do you want to go play next?"
Beibei looked back at him and said, "Daddy, I want to go to the Toy Store."
Chen Yan raised an eyebrow, "The Toy Store?"
Beibei nodded eagerly, "I want to buy toys."
Chen Yan continued to look at her, "Buy toys?"
Beibei nodded again, "Mm-hmm."
He then asked, "Why do you suddenly want to buy toys?"
Beibei replied, "Because other kids have lots of toys, but I don’t have any."
Chen Yan was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Beibei to say that.
He looked at her and said, "Beibei, I'm sorry. Daddy should have bought you toys earlier."
Beibei reassured him, "Daddy, you don’t need to apologize. I know you’re very busy with work; it’s okay."
Seeing how understanding she was made Chen Yan feel grateful.
He looked at her and asked, "How about we go buy some toys now?"
Beibei's eyes lit up as she exclaimed, "Really?"
Chen Yan nodded, "Really."
Beibei clapped her hands in delight and said, "That’s great!"
Chen Yan smiled at her and asked, "Shall we head out now?"
Beibei responded enthusiastically, "Mm-hmm!"
So Chen Yan took Beibei to the Toy Store.
Once they arrived at the Toy Store, Beibei's eyes sparkled as she saw all the toys.
She ran into the pile of toys, picking up one after another and unable to put them down.
Chen Yan watched her and asked, "Beibei, which one do you like?"
Beibei looked up at him and said, "I like them all."
Chen Yan smiled and asked, "Do you want all of them?"
Beibei looked at him and asked, "Is that okay?"
Chen Yan replied, "Of course it is."
Beibei smiled and said, "Thank you, Dad Chen!"
Chen Yan gently patted her head and said, "You're welcome."
Beibei gathered all the toys and brought them to the checkout counter, while Chen Yan took out his card to pay.
After they finished paying, Chen Yan carried the toys and held Beibei's hand as they walked out of the Toy Store. Once outside, Chen Yan asked Beibei, "Now that we've bought the toys, where else do you want to go?"
Beibei thought for a moment and said, "Dad, I want to go to the bookstore."
Chen Yan looked at her and asked, "What do you want to do at the bookstore?"
Beibei replied, "I want to buy a backpack and some stationery."
Chen Yan inquired further, "Why do you need a backpack and stationery?"
Beibei answered, "Because I'm going to school soon."
Chen Yan looked at her in surprise, "Going to school?"
Beibei nodded, "Yes."
Chen Yan asked again, "So you want to go to school?"
Beibei nodded once more, "Yes."
Chen Yan smiled and said, "Alright then, Dad will take you to buy a backpack and stationery."
They went to the bookstore where Beibei picked out a backpack and some stationery she liked. After purchasing them, Chen Yan asked Beibei, "Beibei, can we go home now?"
Beibei looked at him and said, "Dad, I want to go somewhere else."
Chen Yan asked curiously, "Where to?"
Beibei replied earnestly, "To the luxury goods store."
Chen Yan was taken aback and asked, "What do you want to go there for?"
Beibei explained, "To buy a bag for Mom."
Chen Yan was puzzled and asked, "Why do you want to buy a bag for Mom?"
Beibei responded thoughtfully, "Because we bought so many things today that Mom will definitely scold me. So I want to buy her a bag so that when she sees it, she won't scold me."
Chen Yan chuckled and said, "So that's what you're thinking."
Beibei nodded in agreement.
Chen Yan patted her head and said, "Then you are mistaken."
Beibei looked at him and asked, "Why?"
Chen Yan replied, "Because Mom would never scold you."
Beibei's eyes widened, "Really?"
Chen Yan nodded, "Really."
Beibei continued, "Then what will Mom do?"
Chen Yan answered, "Mom will only say thank you."
Beibei asked again, "Really?"
Chen Yan nodded once more, "Really."
Beibei smiled and said, "Then I still want to buy a bag for Mom."
Chen Yan inquired, "Why?"
Beibei replied earnestly, "Because I want to make Mom happy."
Chen Yan chuckled, "Good child."
He took Beibei to a luxury store and bought her the latest bag. After purchasing it, Chen Yan looked at Beibei and asked, "Beibei, can we go home now?"
Beibei nodded, "Mm-hmm."
They returned home together. When they arrived, Liu Yuan was in the living room handling some documents.
Beibei spotted her mother and immediately ran over, exclaiming, "Mom!"
Liu Yuan looked at her child and said, "You're back."
Beibei nodded enthusiastically, "Mm-hmm."
Liu Yuan noticed the toys and backpack in Beibei's hands and asked, "What are these?"
Beibei beamed at her mother and replied, "Mom, these are gifts that Dad and I bought for you."
Liu Yuan was taken aback, "Gifts?"
Beibei nodded again, "Mm-hmm."
Liu Yuan questioned gently, "Why did you two buy me gifts?"
Beibei answered with sincerity, "Because I want to make Mom happy."
Liu Yuan smiled warmly at her child and said, "Just having that thought makes me very happy; there's no need to buy so many things."
Beibei looked at her mother and said, "Mom, I didn't buy these."
Liu Yuan, puzzled, asked, "Then who bought them?"
Beibei pointed at Chen Yan and replied, "Dad bought them."
Liu Yuan turned to Chen Yan and questioned, "Why did you buy so many things for the child?"
Chen Yan looked at her and said, "Because she wanted them."
Liu Yuan stared at him, "So just because she wants something, you buy it?"
Chen Yan responded, "Of course I want to satisfy her desires."
Liu Yuan retorted, "You're going to spoil her like this."
Chen Yan assured her, "I won't."
Liu Yuan pressed on, "How can you be so sure?"
Chen Yan replied confidently, "Because I believe Beibei is a sensible child; she won't go overboard."
Liu Yuan was left speechless. She glanced at the items on the floor and asked, "How much did all this cost?"
Chen Yan answered casually, "Not much."
Liu Yuan pressed further, "Not much? How much is that?"
Chen Yan replied, "Just a few tens of thousands."
Liu Yuan gasped in shock, "What? Tens of thousands?"
Chen Yan nodded.
Liu Yuan exclaimed, "Are you crazy? Spending that much money on these things?"
Chen Yan defended himself, "These are all things Beibei likes; I think it's worth it."
Liu Yuan challenged him, "Worth what? Do you have money to burn?"
Chen Yan clarified, "It's not about having money to burn; I just want to make my child happy."
Liu Yuan countered, "There are many ways to make a child happy without spending so much money."
Chen Yan insisted, "But I believe this way is the most direct and effective."
Liu Yuan fell silent again.
