"Splish splash..." CoCo vigorously splashed water on his face, his hands moving uncontrollably. Although his hair and sleeves were soaked, he continued to pour water from the faucet onto his face, droplets flying everywhere.
"What’s wrong with me today?" CoCo pondered, furrowing his brow, confusion evident in his eyes.
His day at work had been particularly unproductive; he felt distracted and somewhat lightheaded as he walked.
During a dissection demonstration, his hands trembled uncontrollably, like leaves caught in the wind. A student asked, "Teacher, do we have to shake like that when we do it?"
This made CoCo break out in a cold sweat, his body slightly shaking. He wished he could dig a hole and hide away, embarrassment and awkwardness written all over his face.
"It’s not my fault, it’s not my fault..."
CoCo repeatedly reassured himself as he splashed more water on his face, muttering, "It’s not my fault, it’s not my fault..."
After leaving the restroom, CoCo walked to the open parking lot to get his car.
He forcefully pushed down the gear shift with his left hand, the action carrying a hint of frustration. With his right foot pressing hard on the accelerator, the Nissan sports car shot off like an arrow released from a bow, kicking up dust and leaving only a roar behind.
CoCo had always enjoyed the thrill of driving. When faced with disappointments, he couldn’t help but speed up even more; his expression twisted into something fierce against the rushing wind. His salary as a teaching assistant barely covered the monthly payments for his car and apartment.
Approaching thirty, CoCo remained single and lonely. He understood well that aside from having a relatively stable job, he possessed no other qualities that might attract women—his introverted personality and complete lack of humor didn’t help.
In pursuit of good grades back in school, he had buried himself in books and ignored everything around him. While his grades were impressive, they had made him arrogant; he never cared about others, and they didn’t care for him either.
What CoCo regretted most was accepting the professor's invitation to return as a teaching assistant. He had never anticipated how rigid and monotonous the role would be, with such a narrow social circle and a life as dull as a melody without any notes.
However, her appearance truly gave CoCo a glimmer of hope. He disregarded any concerns about teacher-student relationships and repeatedly confessed his feelings to her, his eyes filled with a hint of desire and determination.
Returning to his apartment, CoCo opened the mailbox and reached in to pull out two letters, a look of confusion and unease crossing his face.
"Another speeding ticket?" CoCo muttered to himself, his voice low.
He took the elevator back to his home, collapsing onto the soft couch like a dead fish. He leaned back, completely ceasing all activity, leaving only the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest as he breathed, his gaze vacant as he stared at the ceiling.
The house where CoCo lived spanned over two hundred square meters, far too large for someone living alone.
The building was located in New Town, nestled against a small hill, with fresh air and a peaceful environment.
The doorbell shattered CoCo's tranquil world. He felt a twinge of impatience as he furrowed his brow, puzzled that someone would be looking for him at this hour.
"Who is it?" CoCo grumbled, slowly turning the doorknob.
Outside stood several burly men. CoCo sensed an aura of menace and stiffened slightly, a flicker of fear flashing in his eyes.
"Mr. Liu Guancong, I am Liu Yinuo from the Major Crimes Unit," Liu Yinuo said, displaying his badge with a serious expression. "Please open the door."
Liu Guancong was taken back to the police station, where his house underwent a thorough search. The officers meticulously combed through every room for evidence, leaving no corner unchecked.
The police interrogated both Qian Jiahua and Liu Guancong, obtaining the following information:
Qian Jiahua claimed to have deeply loved the deceased, Fang Qingyue. His eyes were filled with affection as he spoke, asserting that he had planned to marry her right after graduation. There was no way he could have killed her. His tone was firm, his body slightly leaning forward, and his hands tightly clenched.
On the night of the incident, Zhong Jiahua dropped his girlfriend off at the school dormitory at eleven-thirty and then returned to the boys' dormitory to study. He recalled the scene with a hint of sadness in his eyes, sleeping soundly until just after seven the next morning.
Liu Guancong admitted to having a long-standing crush on Fang Qingyue but insisted he had no intention of violating her. His gaze flickered as he struggled to meet the police's eyes.
That night, Liu Guancong stayed alone in the Biological Laboratory, leaving at eleven fifty-five and returning home at one fifteen in the morning. As he spoke, he wiped the sweat from his forehead with his hand.
Meanwhile, the police conducted a thorough investigation and uncovered the following clues:
The door handle of the deceased's room bore fingerprints from Zhong Jiahua, Liu Guancong, and the victim herself.
The Murderous Blade contained fingerprints from both Liu Guancong and the deceased.
A tie clip found in the victim's hand belonged to Liu Guancong.
The Autopsy Report clearly indicated that Liu Guancong had sexually assaulted Fang Qingyue while she was alive.
With strong evidence of Liu Guancong's violation of the victim, Liu Yinuo immediately detained him for forty-eight hours and subjected him to intense questioning, her eyes reflecting determination and anger.
Two days later, Liu Guancong finally succumbed to the relentless interrogation from the police and confessed.
Exhausted, Liu Guancong said, "That night I didn't inform Fang Qingyue in advance that I was going to her room. I wanted to confess my feelings. I had tried several times before, but she ignored me; it seemed like she was avoiding me more and more. I knocked twice on her door, and when she saw it was me, she immediately shut it without a word. I forcefully pushed it open and barged in."
As he spoke, he gestured with his hands, his body trembling slightly.
"Liu Yinuo: Aren't you afraid the girls in the other rooms will hear you?" Her eyes were fixed on him.
"Liu Guancong: The dormitory is underutilized; you could say six out of ten rooms are empty."
"Liu Yinuo: You had this planned all along! Speak! Keep going!" His voice rose a few notches, laced with reprimand.
"Liu Guancong: I closed the door, and she panicked, shouting 'Help!' I rushed over and covered her mouth with my hand, desperately trying to explain. But she just wouldn't listen."
"She kicked me right where it hurts! Damn it! I cried out in pain. She seized the chance to slip to the door. I lunged toward her despite the pain, blocking the door first. She couldn't escape; she turned back into the room and grabbed a scalpel from her desk, gripping the handle tightly as she shouted, 'Don't come any closer.'"
"Though her hands trembled, her resolve was unwavering, her voice raised high."
"At that moment, I finally realized I could never win her heart, but I had to have her body."
"Of course, she couldn't overpower you! In the end, you subdued her. You took the blade from her hands and assaulted her. Out of rage afterward, you stabbed at her wildly with that scalpel! Finally, to silence her forever, you plunged a knife into her heart!" Liu Yinuo said angrily, her fists clenched tightly.
Liu Guancong was drenched in sweat, his hand holding the handkerchief shaking uncontrollably as he stammered, "N-no... I didn't kill... kill her."
Liu Yinuo's fury could no longer be contained; she glared fiercely at the man before her, a beast in human clothing. Raising her iron fist high, she slammed it down hard on the table in front of her. "Rapist!!! You are under arrest!"
