Tang Mufeng looked at me, his eyes flickering with a hint of disappointment as I remained silent.
"It's okay," he forced a smile. "I can wait, even if it takes until the day you are willing to accept me."
I nodded gently, choosing not to say anything further. Perhaps once I resolved all my matters, I would try to accept him.
For the next two days, I stayed in my room, lost in thought. I kept pondering how to avoid that tragedy. Though I felt reluctant, I had to admit that my power was truly insignificant. As a weak woman, I couldn't change anything on my own. Was I really destined to watch Su Wanyi marry into the palace and then live out her days in solitude?
I was unwilling to accept that fate.
The following evening, Zhao Yanqing suddenly visited me in secret.
"I've been investigating my sister," he stated directly. "I've noticed that her behavior has changed over the years. But I'm not here to delve deeper; I just want you to agree to one thing."
"What is it?" I frowned.
"The thing is: I want you and Tang Mufeng to be together," Zhao Yanqing said.
"What?" I looked at him in surprise.
Zhao Yanqing glanced at me and continued, "Let Tang Mufeng go into battle; you just need to follow him secretly."
"What?" I exclaimed in shock. "I'm the daughter of the General's Mansion! Why would I leave my comfortable life to accompany an army?"
"I've already made arrangements," Zhao Yanqing replied calmly. "Nothing will happen. Once the war settles down, I'll provide you both with a secluded place where you'll have no worries about food or clothing, and no one will disturb you."
I coldly remarked, "You want us to hide away just so Su Wanyi can marry into the General's Mansion?"
Zhao Yanqing smiled slightly. "Sister, that's exactly my intention."
I was taken aback. So he intended to use this opportunity for Su Wanyi to enter the General's Mansion and keep him company! I couldn't help but roll my eyes; this guy was truly cunning!
But upon careful consideration, this isn't a bad idea after all. At least it allows me to be with Tang Mufeng. As for Zhao Yanqing... I trust Su Wanyi will handle it well.
"That being said, you must treat Su Wanyi well. If I find out you are mistreating her, I'll strip your tendons and peel your skin."
"Don't worry, sister. I will treat her well."
With that, I agreed. After Zhao Yanqing left, Tang Mufeng appeared out of nowhere.
"Miss."
I was startled and quickly turned around. "When did you arrive?" I asked in surprise.
"Just now," Tang Mufeng replied.
"Did you hear everything?" I asked again.
"Yes," Tang Mufeng nodded.
I sighed, "Since you already know, I won't hide it from you..." I told him about Zhao Yanqing's proposal.
After listening, Tang Mufeng fell silent for a moment and said softly, "Thank you, Miss."
"You don't need to thank me," I shook my head. "I'm doing this for Su Wanyi as well."
"Regardless, I must thank you," Tang Mufeng said.
"Alright, go pack your things," I urged.
"Yes," Tang Mufeng turned to leave.
As I watched his back, a thought suddenly struck me, and I quickly called out to him.
"Tang Mufeng."
"Miss?" Tang Mufeng stopped and turned to look at me.
"Don't call me 'Miss' anymore," I said.
"What should I call you then?" Tang Mufeng asked, puzzled.
"My name is Ji Yifei," I reminded him.
Tang Mufeng paused for a moment, then smiled. "Alright, I'll call you Yifei from now on."
"Yes." I nodded gently. "Remember, this is my name, and it belongs to you alone."
"I will remember it well," Tang Mufeng replied with a smile, "because it's the name of the person I love."
