Liu Yuan felt a whirlwind of emotions upon learning that Beibei had secured a villa from Chen Yan. She was astonished by Chen Yan's generosity but also worried that he might change his mind and refuse to give the villa to Beibei. Regardless, since he had promised Beibei, she was determined to ensure he kept his word. If necessary, she would just have to deal with him a few more times.
On the way home from the KTV, Beibei sat in the car, her excitement palpable as she looked at Chen Yan. "Dad, did you really give me that villa?"
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded.
"Really?" Beibei asked again for confirmation.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded once more.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Beibei clapped her hands in delight.
"But..." Chen Yan suddenly said.
"But what?" Beibei looked at him nervously.
"But you need to apologize to your mom first; otherwise, she will be upset," Chen Yan replied.
"Okay, I will," Beibei nodded vigorously.
Once they arrived home, Beibei couldn't wait to run to Liu Yuan. "Mom, I have great news to tell you!"
Liu Yuan was drinking water when she heard Beibei's words and asked in confusion, "What good news?"
"Dad gave me a villa!" Beibei exclaimed happily.
"Pfft—" Liu Yuan spat out her drink in shock.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Beibei was startled.
"Nothing," Liu Yuan wiped her mouth and glanced at Chen Yan.
Chen Yan shrugged. "She said she wanted a big house."
Liu Yuan was speechless; this girl really had some nerve.
"Mom, you're not mad, are you?" Beibei asked cautiously.
"No," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Then why aren't you happy?" Beibei questioned in confusion.
"I'm not unhappy," Liu Yuan denied.
"But your expression looks unhappy," Beibei pointed out.
"I..." Liu Yuan was at a loss for words.
"Mom, are you angry with me?" Beibei asked again.
"No," Liu Yuan denied once more.
"Then why aren't you happy?" Beibei pressed on.
"I..." Liu Yuan was once again at a loss for words.
She looked at Beibei for a long time and sighed, "Forget it, you should go to bed."
"I'm not sleeping," Beibei shook her head.
"Why not?" Liu Yuan frowned.
"I'm not tired yet," Beibei replied.
"Even if you're not tired, you should still go to sleep," Liu Yuan ordered.
"Oh," Beibei had no choice but to obediently return to her room to sleep.
Chen Yan watched Liu Yuan and chuckled softly.
Liu Yuan shot him a glare, "How dare you laugh!"
"Why shouldn't I laugh?" Chen Yan retorted.
"You..." Liu Yuan was once again at a loss for words.
"What about me?" Chen Yan raised an eyebrow.
"You took Beibei to KTV; I haven't settled the score with you yet," Liu Yuan said indignantly.
"What's wrong with taking my daughter to KTV?" Chen Yan asked.
"Of course there's something wrong," Liu Yuan replied, "places like that are full of all sorts of people; what if she encounters someone bad?"
"Are you worried I can't protect my daughter?" Chen Yan narrowed his eyes, his tone dangerous.
"That's not what I meant," Liu Yuan said, "I just think you should try to avoid taking her to places like that."
"I understand," Chen Yan nodded, "I'll be more careful in the future."
Seeing his good attitude, Liu Yuan softened her tone, "If you want to take her out to have fun, just take her shopping or for something to eat; don't take her to those kinds of places."
"Okay, I'll listen to you," Chen Yan nodded.
Seeing him so obedient, Liu Yuan couldn't bring herself to scold him any further. "It's getting late; you should rest early."
"Mm," Chen Yan nodded.
Liu Yuan turned and went back to her room, while Chen Yan watched her retreating figure with a smile on his lips.
The next morning, after finishing breakfast and preparing to head to the store, Liu Yuan suddenly received a call from Li Li.
"Hello, Lili," Liu Yuan answered the phone.
"Yuan Yuan, are you home?" Li Li asked.
"Yes, what's up?" Liu Yuan replied.
"I have something I want to talk to you about," Li Li said.
"What is it?" Liu Yuan inquired.
"Let's talk when we meet," Li Li said.
"Okay, I'll head over now," Liu Yuan replied.
After hanging up the phone, Liu Yuan immediately left and drove to Li Li's house.
Forty minutes later, Liu Yuan arrived at Li Li's home. She knocked on the door, and it was quickly opened.
"Come in," Li Li said.
Liu Yuan walked inside and saw Li Li sitting on the sofa, her expression dim.
"What's wrong?" Liu Yuan asked with concern.
"I ran into Jiang Ze," Li Li said.
"Jiang Ze?" Liu Yuan paused for a moment. "Did he cause you trouble?"
"No," Li Li shook her head. "He just wants to get back together."
"Get back together?" Liu Yuan's eyes widened in shock. "Why would he suddenly want to reconcile?"
"I don't know," Li Li replied, shaking her head again.
"So what are you planning to do?" Liu Yuan asked.
"I don't know," Li Li said once more, shaking her head. "That's why I wanted to discuss it with you."
"This..." Liu Yuan hesitated. It was her own matter; she couldn't make the decision for her.
"Yuan Yuan, do you think I should believe him?" Li Li asked.
"Do you still love him?" Liu Yuan countered.
"I..." Li Li was taken aback. Did she love him? Did she still love him? She didn't know.
"If you still love him, then give him a chance and give yourself a chance," Liu Yuan said. "But if you don't love him anymore, then don't get entangled with him."
"I..." Li Li fell into deep thought.
Liu Yuan quietly watched her, not wanting to interrupt.
After a long while, Li Li looked up at Liu Yuan. "Yuan Yuan, I was once pregnant."
"You..." Liu Yuan's eyes widened in shock.
"But I lost the baby," Li Li said bitterly.
"How could that happen..." Liu Yuan couldn't believe it.
"At that time, I had just broken up with Jiang Ze and was feeling down, always drinking. As a result, there were problems with the baby," Li Li explained. "I didn't dare to tell him; I was afraid he would blame me."
"Do you regret it?" Liu Yuan asked.
"Regret? Of course I do," Li Li sighed. "But regretting doesn't change anything; the child is already gone."
"Li Li..." Liu Yuan hugged her tightly, feeling her pain.
"I sometimes wonder, if I had told him back then, would our ending have been different?" Li Li said.
"It wouldn't have changed," Liu Yuan replied firmly.
"How do you know?" Li Li questioned.
"Because you are a strong Li Li," Liu Yuan said. "You wouldn't change your decision for just one child."
"Really?" Li Li chuckled self-deprecatingly.
"Yes," Liu Yuan nodded emphatically. "You didn't stay because of the child; you stayed for yourself."
"Thank you, Yuan Yuan," Li Li said gratefully.
"We're good friends; there's no need to be polite," Liu Yuan smiled.
"Mm." Li Li nodded vigorously.
"So what are your plans now?" Liu Yuan asked.
"I want to turn my experiences into a comic," Li Li replied.
"That sounds great," Liu Yuan agreed. "I support you."
"Thank you, Yuan Yuan," Li Li expressed her gratitude once more.
"No need to thank me," Liu Yuan smiled again.
...
After leaving Li Li's house, Liu Yuan went straight to the store.
After a busy day, in the evening, Liu Yuan bought ingredients and went to Li Li's house to cook her a meal.
They sat together at the table, and Liu Yuan served food to Li Li. "Eat more."
"Thank you," Li Li said appreciatively.
"No need to be polite," Liu Yuan smiled.
After finishing dinner, Liu Yuan chatted with Li Li for a while before leaving.
When she got home, as soon as Liu Yuan stepped through the door, Beibei rushed over. "Mom, you're back!"
"Mm." Liu Yuan nodded and patted Beibei's head.
"Mom, I want to ask you something," Beibei said.
"What is it?" Liu Yuan inquired.
"Tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival. Will Dad stay with us to celebrate it?" Beibei asked.
"Well..." Liu Yuan hesitated.
She also didn't know if Chen Yan would stay.
"Mom, can you ask Dad?" Beibei said.
"Okay." Liu Yuan nodded.
"Thank you, Mom." Beibei happily kissed Liu Yuan on the cheek.
Liu Yuan patted Beibei's head and then walked into the living room, looking at Chen Yan. "Beibei asked if you will stay with us for the Mid-Autumn Festival tomorrow."
"I..." Chen Yan hesitated.
He had originally planned to go back to Beishi to celebrate the festival with his parents, but seeing Beibei's hopeful eyes made it hard for him to refuse.
"If you have something to do, you can leave first," Liu Yuan said.
"No, that's not it." Chen Yan shook his head. "I just..."
"Just what?" Liu Yuan asked.
"If I don't take Beibei back this time, my parents won't let me come home again," Chen Yan said.
Liu Yuan: "..."
"So, can I stay?" Chen Yan asked tentatively.
"I can't decide that; you need to ask Beibei," Liu Yuan replied.
"Okay." Chen Yan nodded and then looked at Beibei. "Beibei, whether Dad can stay depends on you."
"Huh?" Beibei was taken aback.
"If you want Dad to stay, then tell Mom to let him stay," Chen Yan said.
"What if I don't say anything? Will Dad not stay?" Beibei asked.
"Yes." Chen Yan nodded vigorously.
"Well then." Beibei lowered her head and began to think.
Liu Yuan watched Beibei, feeling a bit anxious.
She didn't know what choice Beibei would make.
After a long moment, Beibei raised her head and looked at Liu Yuan. "Mom, let Dad stay."
Liu Yuan looked at Beibei and felt a bit disappointed.
But in the end, she nodded. "Okay."
"Thank you, Mom!" Beibei said happily.
