Firefly Forest

墨書 Inktalez
Over the years, my dreams seemed to be woven repeatedly by a mysterious force. Perhaps they were fragments of memories buried deep within my heart, difficult to discern, or maybe they were just a series of vivid dreams. Ever since I fell ill during that summer after high school, an inescapable nightmare quietly took root, frequently visiting my nights. 0

In this dream, there was a boy named Yin, who was like a gentle breeze on a summer day, softly brushing against my heart. Our story began in the carefree days of childhood when we chased and played along the country paths until the sunset stretched our shadows long and thin. Every summer vacation, I would return to my grandfather's old house, filled with traces of time, like a migratory bird returning home, just to reunite with Yin in the mysterious place known as "Mountain Spirit Forest." 0

Mountain Spirit Forest—a name that holds endless imagination. According to legend, ancient and mysterious creatures reside there, singing softly in the summer night breeze, weaving enchanting melodies that captivate the heart. Whenever night falls and silence envelops the world, those melodies resonate like heavenly music, piercing through the dense leaves of the forest and drifting far away, even into my dreams. 0

However, this forest also conceals unknown secrets and dangers. It is said that if someone gets lost here, they will forever be enchanted by the alluring melodies and never find their way home again. 0

My name is Wu Yingying. Since graduating from high school, three springs and autumns have quietly passed. A few days ago, a phone call from a neighbor of my grandfather's old house struck like a sudden storm, shattering my peaceful life—my grandfather, that interesting old man who always held a special place in my heart, had quietly passed away. At that moment, an indescribable sadness gripped my heart tightly. We hurried back home just to see him one last time. 0

In my memory, my grandfather was quite an interesting old man. However, since I fell ill that summer, I hadn’t had the chance to visit him again. I never expected that such a thing would happen in just a few short years. The neighbor said that my grandfather left peacefully without any expression of pain on his face. 0

I gently leaned against the car window, watching the scenery shift outside as I sank into a deep dream. 0

"Ying, I can't wait for summer any longer. Once we part ways, I want to break free from the crowd... I want to see you too!" Yin suddenly stopped walking mid-sentence, and I instinctively halted as well. 0

Yin swayed slightly as he removed his ghost mask. In the moonlight, his face appeared even paler, like a finely carved piece of jade. His slender fingers picked up the mask and gently placed it on my face. 0

At that moment, my heart stirred as well. I felt an impulsive urge to rush forward and embrace Yin without hesitation; however, I feared he might disappear. 0

He was a child raised by mountain spirits and monsters; he should have died when abandoned by humans. Yet the mountain spirit took pity on him and used its power to sustain his life. But a life maintained by such power came with many impossibilities; thus he could not have too many entanglements with humans nor physical contact... 0

Yin suddenly leaned closer to me and gently kissed the ghost mask I wore. In that instant, panic surged through me as I tightly clutched my skirt; my cheeks burned like they were scorched by the summer sun—hot and flushed. 0

Yin took a few steps forward lightly. Seeing that I was silent, he raised a gentle smile and said softly, "I'll give this mask to you!" I was stunned for a moment and nodded slowly. 0
