The thought of divorce didn't just appear today.
That time when Li Zexuan sued his fan, his manager came to me and bluntly said that I would drag down his bright future.
"Miss Lin, you know very well that there is no love between you and Li Zexuan; it's just a responsibility of marriage."
But whether there was love or not didn't change the fact that his fans hated me.
No ordinary person can withstand the scrutiny of the camera.
I will never forget the day that video of Li Zexuan kneeling down to put shoes on me was exposed.
When I opened my private messages, a full-screen message popped up: "Bitch, bitch, bitch, die, die, die..."
Behind it was a bloody photo of me.
I was so scared that I threw my phone far away and cried uncontrollably.
That day, while Li Zexuan was filming on set, I moved in with Xiao Zhi for the night.
He couldn't control others' words and actions, nor could he stop a small group of extreme fans from harboring unwarranted hatred towards me.
Without waiting for my response, Li Zexuan's eyes dimmed. "Let's take a break."
The next day, I remembered to ask Li Zexuan why Feng Qi called him senior.
He paused for a moment before answering, "We are high school alumni."
"In high school, she handed me a confession letter, but I rejected her."
After we finished washing up, we went downstairs where the production team issued a new task card.
It was an activity voted on by the audience: setting up a stall at the night market.
Within the stipulated six hours, the couple with the highest sales would receive a reward.
The comments started flooding in with excitement.
"Oh, this is going to be interesting."
"Isn't Li Zexuan trying to build an image for his wife? Let's see how she performs now."
The production team clearly aimed for more buzz.
Li Zexuan and I were assigned to a stall selling oden and takoyaki.
A warm yellow light bulb lit up, accompanied by the aroma wafting from the nearby fried skewer stall.
In an instant, I felt like I was pulled back five years in time.
So I began to call out confidently, "Daily freshly made kombu and bonito soup! All ingredients guaranteed to be the freshest!"
The sky had not yet fully darkened, and the night market was still sparsely populated. I scooped up some white radish and fish cakes, placing them into a paper cup as I leaned against the small cart to eat.
"Lin Yue is enjoying it so much; I can't believe I'm salivating just watching through the screen," someone commented.
"Look, we have customers!"
A young couple stood in front of the stall, asking about the prices. Without thinking, I blurted out, "Three for fish cakes, four for beef balls, two for fish balls, konjac noodles and tofu skin are one fifty each, and radish is one..."
The girl picked up a few skewers, and I helped her pack them into a paper cup, adding soup before pointing to the QR code. "That'll be seventeen in total; you can pay by scanning here."
Yuning, who was awkwardly making sweet dumplings nearby, looked stunned. "You really have run a stall before!"
I nodded. Not only that, but the unique dashi for the oden was a flavor I had experimented with over a hundred times to perfect.
As the sky grew darker, the night market became increasingly crowded. Many people recognized us, and long lines formed in front of each couple's stall. Yuning and another pair were managing just fine. However, Chen Xing's fruit stall was chaotic even with Feng Qi helping out. The only ones running smoothly were Li Zexuan and me. I handled the oden while he made takoyaki.
"Li Ge remembers all the customers' preferences!"
"With so many people grabbing skewers at different prices, she calculates it quickly and clearly."
"You can tell just by looking if it's cooked or not; you can't fake that experience unless you've actually run a stall."
"The way they locked eyes under the lights was so sweet; help!"
Suddenly, a girl with long hair wearing a mask squeezed to the front of the stall and ordered a skewer of beef balls. After taking a bite, she spat it onto the ground.
"This takoyaki is spoiled! What kind of business are you running? A scam?"
Everyone present froze for a moment. The bitten takoyaki rolled on the ground for a couple of turns before picking up dust. I looked at her eyes filled with blatant mockery and malice and lowered my eyelashes slightly.
Bending down, I picked up the Takoyaki, rinsed off the dust with hot soup, and tossed it straight into my mouth.
I chewed and swallowed.
"It's not bad. I would dare to eat anything I sell."
I calmly met her gaze. "Guests are welcome to taste, but we do not welcome competitors causing trouble."
The girl was at a loss for words, staring blankly for a moment before glancing over at Chen Xing's stall as if seeking help.
The comments section exploded.
"She's looking at Feng Qi! This must be someone Sister Feng found!"
"Hey, black fans in front, stop jumping to conclusions just because she glanced over! I could say this is all Lin Yue's self-directed drama."
"I've done business too, and Lin Yue's way of handling things is clean and decisive—definitely a fellow competitor."
"Oh my god, when she picked up that thing from the ground and ate it, Li Zexuan's expression looked like his heart shattered."
"I can't believe I've become a fan of Sister Lin."
"Count me in as a new fan +1."
After six hours, it was already late at night.
Standing at the stall the whole time had been exhausting; even Yuning, who had the best stamina, was starting to struggle.
Only Li Zexuan and I remained steady.
Without a doubt, we took first place.
Our reward was tomorrow's mode of transportation—while others had electric bikes or bicycles, we got a convertible sports car.
I was so tired that when I got back, I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.
It wasn't until the next morning that I discovered Li Zexuan had quietly done something significant without telling me.
He announced his withdrawal from the recording of the show.
"The payment along with the penalty has been returned to the production team's account. Please don't use my wife to stir up topics anymore."
The top comment read: "Bro, have you thought about what happens if you offend the director and investors?!"
Li Zexuan replied to that comment.
"What should I do if my wife doesn't want me anymore?"
His sudden act caused the live broadcast to pause. I couldn't find my phone, but it was Yuning who informed me that Li Zexuan had done something big.
"Where is he?"
Yuning replied, "He's negotiating with the production team. His agency sent someone over too. He asked me to tell you not to worry and not to look for your phone; your online account has been taken over by him."
As I went downstairs, I happened to see Feng Qi in the living room on the first floor. Without the cameras and live broadcast, she stopped pretending and looked at me with disdain and disgust.
"Lin Yue, who do you think you are? What right do you have to delay Zexuan's career?"
"Do you know that this breach of contract will make it difficult for him in the industry in the future?"
"Even your existence as his wife is a burden to him."
I turned to Yuning and asked, "Did you hear a dog barking?"
"You!"
Feng Qi was furious.
Just then, Li Zexuan returned. He looked weary, but his eyes sparkled like stars when he saw me. He thanked Yuning and took me to meet his manager, Amy.
She was a capable woman, both in her appearance and demeanor, who had long been immersed in the world of fame and fortune. She scrutinized me for a moment with a critical gaze.
"Li Zexuan, you're the most talented among all the non-professional artists I've worked with. Are you really going to waste your future like this?"
"If a future is bought at the cost of a loved one's reputation, isn't that shameful?"
Li Zexuan replied calmly, "Since the results of the Jinxiu Award have come out, the company should fulfill its promises."
Amy glanced at me with restraint before standing up. "Don't worry; we will clarify the rumors about Lin Yue and arrange a press conference as soon as possible."
"But if you can't bring enough benefits to the company..."
"Then it has nothing to do with her."
Li Zexuan said calmly, "I will bear all consequences."
