"Beibei, your mom and I don't need a lot of money. As long as you grow up healthy and happy, we will be very satisfied," Chen Yan said gently, stroking his daughter's head.
"Dad, that's not enough. You and Mom treat me so well; I definitely want to repay you," Beibei replied seriously.
"Alright, then I'll wait for you to grow up and earn a lot of money to take care of your dad and mom," Chen Yan said, not contradicting her but going along with her words.
"Mm." Beibei nodded vigorously.
"Beibei, it's getting late. You should go to bed now," Chen Yan reminded her.
"Dad, I want to wait for you to sleep together," Beibei said, tugging at his sleeve and acting cute.
"Beibei, Dad has to take care of Mom tonight and can't sleep with you. You need to be good and go back to your room to sleep by yourself, okay?" Chen Yan said patiently.
"Fine." Beibei agreed reluctantly.
"You're such a good girl, Beibei." Chen Yan affectionately patted her head.
"Goodnight, Dad." Beibei waved goodbye to him.
"Goodnight." Chen Yan smiled slightly.
Beibei returned to her room and obediently lay down in bed to sleep.
Chen Yan entered the bedroom and found Liu Yuan already asleep. He sat quietly by the bed, gazing at her with tenderness in his eyes.
The next morning, when Liu Yuan woke up, she noticed that Chen Yan was not in the bedroom. She guessed he had gone to make breakfast.
After getting up, Liu Yuan took Beibei to the bathroom to wash up. By the time they finished, Chen Yan had already prepared breakfast.
"Mom, are we going home after we eat?" Beibei asked her mother.
"Yes," Liu Yuan nodded.
"Mom, let's take the city rail back to Huai City," Beibei suggested.
"Okay, we'll do what Beibei says," Liu Yuan agreed.
"You’re the best, Mom!" Beibei said happily as she hugged her mother.
After finishing breakfast, Chen Yan took Liu Yuan and Beibei to the High-Speed Rail Station.
"Chen Yan, you can go back now. There's no need to see us off," Liu Yuan said lightly.
"It's fine; I have nothing else to do anyway," Chen Yan shook his head.
"Chen Yan, you're so busy with work. You don't have to make a special trip just for us; we can go back by ourselves," Liu Yuan frowned slightly.
"Yuan Yuan, are you still mad at me?" Chen Yan suddenly asked.
"No," Liu Yuan denied.
"Then why are you being so cold to me?" Chen Yan asked, puzzled.
"I'm not being cold; I just think you're working too hard and don't want to trouble you," Liu Yuan replied calmly.
"Yuan Yuan, why do you have to be so polite with me?" Chen Yan said bitterly.
"I'm not being polite; I just feel you don't need to do this," Liu Yuan insisted.
"Yuan Yuan..." Chen Yan said helplessly.
"Chen Yan, you should go back. Beibei and I can return to Huai City by ourselves," Liu Yuan urged again.
"Yuan Yuan, if you encounter any difficulties or have anything that's bothering you, please tell me. I can help you," Chen Yan couldn't help but say.
"I don't have anything bothering me; I just want to go home," Liu Yuan replied coldly.
"Alright then," Chen Yan sighed.
"Drive carefully," Liu Yuan reminded him.
"Mm," Chen Yan acknowledged.
Liu Yuan got into the car with Beibei, and the train slowly departed, gradually disappearing from Chen Yan's sight. He stood there, staring in the direction where the train had vanished, feeling a mix of emotions.
---
Two hours later, Liu Yuan and Beibei arrived at the High-Speed Rail Station.
Liu Yuan took out her phone to buy tickets for entry.
"Mommy, what's happening over there?" Beibei shouted, pointing at a crowd not far away.
Liu Yuan looked in the direction her daughter was pointing and noticed a group of people gathered, seemingly in a dispute.
Not wanting to get involved in other people's business, Liu Yuan held her daughter's hand and walked toward the ticket counter.
"Mommy, I want to go see," Beibei said curiously.
"Beibei, don't meddle in other people's affairs," Liu Yuan said sternly.
"Oh," Beibei pouted.
After buying the tickets, Liu Yuan took her daughter into the waiting area.
Half an hour later, an announcement informed passengers that it was time to board.
Liu Yuan grabbed their luggage and led her daughter onto the train.
"Mommy, are we taking this train?" Beibei asked excitedly.
"Yes," Liu Yuan nodded.
Liu Yuan and Beibei found their seats and sat down.
A few minutes later, the High-Speed Rail started up, gradually accelerating towards Huai City.
After just over ten minutes of travel, it suddenly came to a halt.
"Mom, why did we stop?" Beibei asked, puzzled.
"Maybe it's a temporary stop," Liu Yuan guessed.
"Mom, how long do we have to wait?" Beibei frowned.
"It should start moving again soon," Liu Yuan replied uncertainly.
"Mom, I'm so bored," Beibei complained.
"Beibei, just hang in there a little longer; we'll be home soon," Liu Yuan comforted her.
"Okay," Beibei nodded helplessly.
Half an hour passed, and the High-Speed Rail was still stationary, showing no signs of starting up again.
"Mom, why aren't we moving yet?" Beibei was growing impatient.
"Beibei, don't worry; it should be starting soon," Liu Yuan reassured her daughter.
"Mom, I need to go to the bathroom," Beibei said with a pout.
"Beibei, just hold on a bit longer; once we get off the train, I'll take you to the restroom," Liu Yuan advised.
"Mom, I can't hold it anymore," Beibei said, nearly in tears.
"This..." Liu Yuan felt troubled.
"Mom, I really can't hold it," Beibei's voice quivered with desperation.
"Beibei, tell me which car's restroom you want to go to," Liu Yuan asked.
"Mom, I want to go to the one in the front car," Beibei thought for a moment before responding.
"Alright then, let's go," Liu Yuan nodded.
Holding her daughter's hand, Liu Yuan walked towards the front of the train.
When they reached Car Five, Liu Yuan noticed a long line forming at the restroom door; by the time it was Beibei's turn, she would have already wet her pants.
"What do we do now, Mom?" Beibei jumped anxiously.
"Beibei, you go back to your seat and wait for me; I'll talk to the conductor," Liu Yuan instructed.
"Okay," Beibei nodded.
Liu Yuan turned and left to find the conductor.
After explaining the situation to the conductor, he led Liu Yuan to Car One.
"Thank you," Liu Yuan said gratefully.
"You're welcome," the train conductor waved his hand.
Liu Yuan walked into Car One, letting Beibei go to the restroom.
When Beibei came out, Liu Yuan took his daughter back to their seats.
Half an hour later, the High-Speed Rail finally restarted.
---
At seven in the evening, Chen Yan sat in the living room waiting for Liu Yuan and Beibei to return home.
Time passed slowly; Chen Yan glanced at his watch—it was already eight o'clock, but Liu Yuan and Beibei still hadn't come back.
Worried, Chen Yan took out his phone and called Liu Yuan, but the phone rang for a long time without anyone answering.
Frowning, Chen Yan dialed Liu Yuan's number again, but it remained unanswered.
Feeling increasingly anxious, he tried calling Beibei, but her phone also went unanswered.
Unable to sit still, Chen Yan grabbed his keys and hurried out the door.
He drove to the High-Speed Rail Station, parked quickly, and rushed into the exit area.
Standing at the exit, Chen Yan scanned the crowd for any sign of Liu Yuan and Beibei.
After searching the entire area, he still couldn't find them.
Panic set in; he pulled out his phone to call the police. Just as he was about to dial, his phone suddenly rang.
Looking at the caller ID, he saw it was Luo Ming calling.
"Hello," Chen Yan answered quickly.
"Manager Chen, you need to check the news," Luo Ming said urgently.
"The news?" Chen Yan replied suspiciously.
"You'll understand when you see it," Luo Ming insisted anxiously.
Chen Yan hung up and opened a news website.
The homepage displayed a headline—"Jinghuai High-Speed Rail Line Involved in Major Accident, Hundreds Injured."
Chen Yan's pupils dilated as his heart raced.
"Yuan Yuan! Beibei!" he shouted, rushing out in a frenzy.
Driving recklessly, Chen Yan sped towards the accident site.
An hour later, he arrived at the scene of the disaster.
The area was chaotic; wreckage was scattered everywhere, and rescue workers were urgently attending to the injured.
Chen Yan jumped out of the car and rushed into the exhibition area.
"Sir, you can't go in there!" a staff member blocked Chen Yan's path.
"Get out of my way!" Chen Yan shouted angrily, pushing past the staff member and continuing deeper inside.
"Sir, it's dangerous in there, you can't go in!" the staff member tried again to stop him.
"My wife and daughter are inside! I have to get in!" Chen Yan roared.
"Please calm down, sir," the staff member urged.
"How can I calm down?" Chen Yan's eyes were bloodshot, like an enraged lion.
"Sir, please register your identity information first. We will help you find your wife and daughter," the staff member suggested.
"Hurry up!" Chen Yan urged impatiently.
The staff member quickly helped Chen Yan register his information and then asked him to wait outside.
Chen Yan was extremely anxious, pacing back and forth.
A minute later, the staff member returned with two nurses.
"Sir, these two nurses are specifically responsible for rescuing the injured. You can ask them if they have seen your wife and daughter," the staff member said.
"Okay," Chen Yan replied, then turned to the two nurses. "Have you seen my wife and daughter?"
"What are your wife and daughter's names?" one of the nurses asked.
"My wife's name is Liu Yuan, and my daughter's name is Beibei," Chen Yan said hurriedly.
"Liu Yuan? Beibei?" The nurse repeated the names a few times before shaking her head. "I haven't seen them."
"What about you?" Chen Yan turned to the other nurse.
"When I was rescuing the injured in Car No. 6, I saw a little girl who claimed her name was Beibei," the other nurse said.
"Where is she now?" Chen Yan asked excitedly.
"She has already left the scene with her mother," the nurse replied.
"Left?" Chen Yan was stunned.
"Yes," the nurse nodded.
