When Liu Yuan woke up, she found herself lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by the smell of disinfectant.
“Mom, you’re awake!” Beibei exclaimed happily upon seeing her mother’s eyes open.
“Beibei, how did I end up in the hospital?” Liu Yuan asked, puzzled.
“Mom, Dad said you had a bit of a fever, so he brought me to the hospital,” Beibei explained.
“Oh,” Liu Yuan said, realization dawning on her.
“Mom, are you thirsty?” Beibei asked thoughtfully.
“Mm,” Liu Yuan replied softly.
Beibei immediately picked up a cup and handed it to her mother. “Mom, this is the water Dad poured for me. I didn’t drink it, so you can have it.”
“Thank you, Beibei.” Liu Yuan took a sip of water and felt much better.
“Mom, do you feel better now?” Beibei asked with concern.
“Mm, I feel much better,” Liu Yuan smiled.
“That’s good,” Beibei sighed in relief.
“Beibei, where’s Dad?” Liu Yuan scanned the room but didn’t see Chen Yan anywhere.
“Dad is outside on the phone,” Beibei replied.
“Oh,” Liu Yuan nodded.
“Mom, when can we go home?” Beibei asked eagerly.
“We can go home once I finish my IV drip,” Liu Yuan said gently.
“Okay,” Beibei responded obediently.
——
Half an hour later, Chen Yan pushed the door open and walked in.
“Dad, can we go now?” Beibei asked impatiently.
“Mm, we can go now,” Chen Yan nodded.
“Great! Mom, we can finally go home!” Beibei exclaimed excitedly.
“Mm.” Liu Yuan smiled and nodded in agreement.
“Mom, I’ll help you get up,” Beibei offered supportively.
“Okay.” With her daughter’s assistance, Liu Yuan slowly got out of bed.
“Yuan Yuan, are you sure you can do this?” Chen Yan asked with concern.
"I'm fine, just a little dizzy," Liu Yuan said weakly.
"I'll carry you down," Chen Yan proposed.
"No need, I can walk by myself," Liu Yuan refused Chen Yan's proposal.
"Yuan Yuan, you're sick; don't push yourself," Chen Yan said seriously.
"I'm really okay," Liu Yuan insisted.
"Mom, just let Dad carry you down," Beibei advised.
"Yeah, Yuan Yuan, you need to rest now," Chen Yan agreed.
"Well... okay then," Liu Yuan hesitated for a moment before finally agreeing.
"Yuan Yuan, lie still; I'll go get a wheelchair," Chen Yan instructed.
"Oh," Liu Yuan responded softly.
Chen Yan left the room to find a nurse for a wheelchair.
"Mom, are you still feeling unwell?" Beibei asked.
"I'm alright, just a bit dizzy," Liu Yuan replied quietly.
"Mom, close your eyes and rest for a bit; I'll call you when we get there," Beibei said thoughtfully.
"Okay," Liu Yuan obediently closed her eyes.
---
Chen Yan pushed Liu Yuan out of the elevator, with Beibei following closely beside them.
"Mom, we're home," Beibei shouted.
"Mm," Liu Yuan slowly opened her eyes.
"Mom, go sit in the living room; I'll get you some slippers," Beibei said before running into the room.
"This child..." Liu Yuan smiled helplessly.
"Yuan Yuan, let me help you over," Chen Yan said.
"Mm," Liu Yuan nodded.
Chen Yan assisted Liu Yuan to the sofa and helped her sit down.
"Mom, put on your slippers," Beibei came running out with the slippers in hand.
"Alright," Liu Yuan took the slippers and changed into them.
"Mom, are you hungry?" Beibei asked.
"Mom isn't hungry, Beibei. You can go play by yourself, don't worry about me," Liu Yuan said gently.
"Oh," Beibei replied obediently and then ran off to play with her toys.
"Yuan Yuan, why don't you take a nap?" Chen Yan suggested.
"I can't sleep," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Then watch some TV to distract yourself," Chen Yan advised.
"Okay," Liu Yuan responded.
---
In the evening, the driver brought Liu Yuan and Beibei's luggage over.
"Mr. Chen, Mrs. Liu, here are your bags," the driver said respectfully.
"Thank you for your trouble," Liu Yuan replied politely.
"It's no trouble at all," the driver waved his hand dismissively.
"Daddy, why is that uncle so happy?" Beibei asked curiously.
"Because Daddy gave him money," Chen Yan explained.
"Daddy, why did you give that uncle money?" Beibei asked in confusion.
"Because that uncle helped us, so Daddy gave him money to show our gratitude," Chen Yan patiently clarified.
"Oh, I see now," Beibei said, understanding dawning on her.
"Yes," Chen Yan said, affectionately ruffling his daughter's hair.

In the following days, Liu Yuan rested while Beibei sunbathed downstairs.
One evening, after taking a shower, Liu Yuan saw a message from Fu Shaokang.
"I heard you returned to Beishi."
Liu Yuan was too lazy to type and sent a voice message instead, "Mm."
"Why didn't you let me know you and your daughter were back? I could have hosted you."
"No need," Liu Yuan replied coldly.
"Yuan Yuan, are you angry?"
"Fu Shaokang, I'm just back to see my dad. It has nothing to do with you," Liu Yuan's tone was icy.
"Yuan Yuan, there's really nothing between me and Liu Xiaomin; it was all my mom's doing," Fu Shaokang hurriedly explained.
"Fu Shaokang, no matter what happens between you and Liu Xiaomin, it has nothing to do with me. I'm not interested in knowing," Liu Yuan said coldly.
"Yuan Yuan, do I still have a chance?" Fu Shaokang asked cautiously.
"Liu Shaokang, I'm not interested in marriage or dating right now, do you understand?" Liu Yuan replied bluntly.
"Yuan Yuan, are you still holding a grudge against me?" Fu Shaokang asked, feeling dejected.
"I'm not holding a grudge; I just don't want to talk about relationships anymore. Do you understand?" Liu Yuan said helplessly.
Fu Shaokang did not send any more messages.

On the weekend, Chen Yan arrived at Liu Yuan's home.
"Daddy," Beibei exclaimed happily when she saw her father.
"Beibei," Chen Yan said as he patted his daughter's head.
"Daddy, what are you doing?" Beibei asked curiously as she noticed her father staring at her mother.
"Nothing," Chen Yan replied, retracting his gaze.
"Liu Yuan, did you need something from me?" Chen Yan asked.
"Nothing. I was just bored at home, so I came to see you," Chen Yan said casually.
"Oh," Liu Yuan responded lightly.
"Mommy, what are you doing?" Beibei asked with curiosity.
"Mommy is just watching videos," Liu Yuan said as she put down her phone.
"Mommy, I want to play too," Beibei said enviously.
"Beibei, you've already played for a long time today; you can't play anymore," Liu Yuan said sternly.
"Mommy..." Beibei whined playfully.
"Beibei, you need to listen," Liu Yuan said with a serious expression.
"Oh," Beibei replied reluctantly.
"Yuan Yuan, if you don't want to take Beibei out to play, I can take her," Chen Yan proposed.
"You?" Liu Yuan looked at Chen Yan suspiciously.
"What? Don't you trust me?" Chen Yan raised an eyebrow.
"No," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Then let's go," Chen Yan smiled.
"Where are we going to play, Dad?" Beibei asked excitedly.
"Where do you want to go?" Chen Yan replied.
"I want to go to the museum," Beibei thought for a moment.
"And where else?" Chen Yan continued to ask.
"I also want to go to the ancient town," Beibei said with enthusiasm.
"And where else?" Chen Yan pressed on.
"I want to go to the zoo, and I want to go to the amusement park," Beibei blurted out in one breath.
"Beibei, can you handle going to so many places at once?" Liu Yuan interjected.
"Mom, I can do it," Beibei said confidently.
"Yuan Yuan, since Beibei wants to go out and play, let her have some fun," Chen Yan suggested.
"Alright then," Liu Yuan reluctantly agreed.
"Dad, where are we going?" Beibei asked impatiently.
"You can go wherever you want," Chen Yan said generously.
"Really, Dad?" Beibei exclaimed with excitement.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded.
"Then let's go to the zoo!" Beibei decided after some consideration.
"Okay," Chen Yan agreed happily.
"Dad, have you ever been to the zoo?" Beibei asked curiously.
"I haven't been to the new zoo, but I've seen tigers, peacocks, lions, and giant pandas," Chen Yan replied.
"Wow, Dad, you're amazing!" Beibei admired him.
"Hehe, it's nothing special," Chen Yan said modestly.
"Dad, later I'll tell you what each animal is," Beibei said proudly.
"Sounds good," Chen Yan agreed enthusiastically.
