At the birthday party, Beibei was completely captivated by the fireworks, forgetting all about the cake. Once the fireworks were over, they prepared to eat the cake. Chen Yan lit the candles, and when the lights went out, Beibei was so excited that she forgot to blow them out.
"Beibei, make a wish," Chen Yan reminded her.
"Oh!" Beibei snapped back to reality and immediately closed her eyes. Chen Yan placed a paper crown on his daughter's head. Liu Yuan also closed her eyes to make a wish, then opened them to look at Chen Yan, who smiled gently at her.
They all blew out the candles together, and the lights came back on. Beibei opened her eyes and saw that the candles were extinguished; she felt a bit embarrassed.
"I forgot to blow them out."
"It's okay, just remember next time," Chen Yan comforted her.
"Mm-hmm," Beibei nodded earnestly. Chen Yan lit the candles again. "This time, remember."
"Okay," Beibei nodded seriously. Chen Yan placed the candles on the cake. "Alright, you can make a wish now."
Beibei quickly closed her eyes again, this time not forgetting to blow out the candles. After she extinguished them, the lights brightened once more.
“Mom and Dad, hurry up and cut the cake! I'm so hungry,” Beibei said while patting her stomach.
"Alright," Chen Yan said as he picked up a knife and cut the cake. He gave the piece with cherries to Liu Yuan and Beibei while keeping the rest in front of himself.
“Thank you, Dad!” Beibei exclaimed joyfully.
“You're welcome,” Chen Yan replied with a slight smile.
Beibei eagerly stuffed cake into her mouth, only to get cream smeared on her cheek.
“Slow down,” Chen Yan said as he handed her a napkin.
“I know,” Beibei said as she took the napkin and wiped her mouth clean. Liu Yuan ate gracefully, taking small bites.
Beibei quickly finished her piece of cake and wanted more. “Dad, can I have another piece?”
“No, you can't eat too many sweets at night,” Chen Yan refused.
“Just a little bit more,” Beibei pleaded with gestures.
“Nope,” Chen Yan insisted again.
Beibei pouted slightly, feeling a bit disappointed.
“If you eat too many sweets at night, you'll gain weight and it will affect your sleep,” Liu Yuan explained patiently.
“Okay,” Beibei had no choice but to give up.
“After dinner, we can go shopping,” Chen Yan said.
"Sure!" Beibei exclaimed, instantly excited.
Liu Yuan also showed an expression of anticipation. After finishing the cake, they left the hotel. Chen Yan led them to another old street, which he had thought was quite nice when he passed by before. Liu Yuan was surprised that Chen Yan was so familiar with the place and looked at him in astonishment.
"I read the travel guide," Chen Yan explained.
"Oh," Liu Yuan nodded.
The old street was bustling with people, selling all sorts of things, including snacks. Beibei looked around eagerly, interested in everything. She spotted a stall selling clay figurines and excitedly pulled Chen Yan over.
"Daddy, I want that one!"
Chen Yan followed his daughter's pointing finger to a clay figurine stall.
"Which one do you like?" Chen Yan squatted down to ask.
"I like this one, this one, and this one," Beibei pointed to three figurines in a row.
"Alright then, I'll buy them for you," Chen Yan said as he took out his wallet.
"Daddy, you're the best!" Beibei said happily.
Chen Yan smiled and paid for the figurines. Beibei held her clay figurine tightly, then handed it to Liu Yuan. "Mommy, this is for you."
"You can keep it," Liu Yuan replied with a smile.
"Mommy, you should buy one too," Beibei insisted, hoping her mother would have a figurine as well.
"No thanks, you keep it," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Yuan Yuan, you should get one too," Chen Yan thought his daughter had a point.
Liu Yuan hesitated for a moment. "Okay, I'll buy one."
She chose a small white rabbit figurine.
"Mommy, this one looks like you," Beibei said joyfully.
"Mm-hmm," Liu Yuan smiled back.
Chen Yan looked at the clay figurines in their hands and suddenly wanted one for himself as well.
"Boss, make me one too," he said.
"Sure," the boss nodded.
After thinking for a moment, Chen Yan added, "Make it look like her." He pointed at Liu Yuan.
Liu Yuan froze for a moment, her cheeks turning red. "Why are you making one of me?"
"Don't you think you're cute?" Chen Yan countered playfully.
Liu Yuan felt a bit shy from his teasing and fell silent. The boss was skilled and quickly finished making the figurine.
Beibei looked at the clay figure in Chen Yan's hands and asked, "Daddy, how did you make Mommy?"
"Because I like Mommy," Chen Yan replied without hesitation.
Liu Yuan's cheeks flushed even more.
Suddenly, Beibei had an idea. "Daddy, can you make one of me too?"
"Sure," Chen Yan said, happy to oblige.
Beibei stood by, waiting patiently until it was finally her turn.
The shopkeeper shaped a clay figure to resemble Beibei.
Holding it in her hands, Beibei beamed with joy. "Mommy and Daddy, look! Is this me?"
"Yes, it looks just like you," Liu Yuan laughed.
"Daddy, now we can all be together!" Beibei placed the three clay figures side by side.
Chen Yan gazed at the three figures, feeling a strange pang in his heart. If only they could truly be a family of three.
They strolled around the street, buying quite a few things before finally heading home.
Chen Yan carried Beibei into the room, with Liu Yuan following behind.
"Did you have fun today?" Chen Yan asked.
"Yes!" Beibei nodded vigorously.
"It's getting late; you both should rest early," Chen Yan said.
"Okay," Beibei replied with a nod.
Chen Yan patted his daughter's head and turned to leave.
Liu Yuan watched him and suddenly called out, "Chen Yan."
"What is it?" Chen Yan stopped to look at her.
"Do you still... have feelings for me?" Liu Yuan asked hesitantly.
Chen Yan furrowed his brow slightly. "What do you mean?"
"You prepared so much for me today because you want to pursue me, right?" Liu Yuan questioned.
Chen Yan stared at her for a few seconds before responding with a question of his own: "What about you? Do you still have feelings for me?"
