My father told me that my mother was a wronged noble lady. He was a disciple of a divine physician. They fell in love at first sight. My father bribed the Jail Warden with a Fake Death Potion and rescued my mother. From then on, they wandered the world together.
After more than a year of Marital Bliss, I was born. When I was three years old, they passed through a village that was suffering from a Plague. The County Magistrate ordered the village to be sealed off and planned to burn the villagers alive. My father, unable to bear it, intervened and saved the lives of most of the villagers. They were immensely grateful to him.
This village was picturesque, and both my father and mother grew fond of it. So they decided to settle down there. Their lives gradually became peaceful.
The following year, the village experienced a flood, leading to a total crop failure. The County Magistrate approached the Headman. "I know you don't want to part with Dr. Li," he said. "I can provide you with food, but I want Dr. Li's wife in return."
The Headman's expression changed drastically. "County Magistrate, that's unacceptable."
The County Magistrate replied nonchalantly, "If you refuse, then so be it. After all, it's you who will starve."
The Headman fell silent. He knew the County Magistrate was a scoundrel, and he also understood that trading my mother for food was wrong. But what could he do? The villagers were starving, and if this continued, everyone would die.
The only thing he could do was to use my mother to exchange for the lives of everyone in the village.
The Headman, with red eyes, agreed.
That night, the Headman gathered the villagers and relayed the County Magistrate's words.
"I know this is unfair to Dr. Li," he said. "But we have no choice."
"The people in the village need to eat."
"We can't just stand by and let ourselves starve, can we?"
The villagers nodded in agreement.
"Exactly! Why should Dr. Li, with his exceptional medical skills, refuse to teach us?"
"Right! He enjoys his good life without caring about us."
"My mother is almost starving to death. If we could exchange his wife for food, that would be perfect."
"Yes, let's use his wife to get food!"
"Let's trade her for supplies!"
The Headman sighed, "Since everyone agrees, then it's settled."
"Tomorrow, we'll trick Dr. Li into going out."
"Then we'll send his wife to the county town."
"By then, we'll be able to get our food."
The villagers cheered excitedly.

The next day, before dawn, my father got up.
He said the Headman had invited him to go hunting in the mountains.
Little did he know that a trap had already been set on the path leading into the mountains.
He stepped right into it.
He fell heavily and couldn't climb out.
He shouted for help.
But no one came to rescue him.
It wasn't until three days later that the Headman found him there.
Feigning surprise, the Headman said, "Dr. Li, I've been waiting for you at the foot of the mountain, thinking you wouldn't come. How did you end up here?"
My father was pulled up, and the Headman brought a jug of water and poured it down his throat.
"Dr. Li, your wife has left."
"She went to the Golden Powder Pavilion."
"You should go find her."
My father was taken aback. "What did you say?"
The Headman replied coldly, "I said, your wife has left."
"She doesn't want you anymore."
"Go find her yourself."
With a furious shout, my father rushed out.
He ran through the village, knocking on doors one by one.
"Yuying's mother!"
"Yuying's mother!"
"Where are you? Come out!"
No one answered him.
He turned and ran to the Golden Powder Pavilion.
He found the madam and inquired about my mother's whereabouts.
The madam pointed to the beam. "She's up there."
My father looked up.
My mother's lifeless body hung from the beam.
She had been dead for two days.
Her body was bruised all over, with not a single piece of good flesh left.
My father fell to his knees and cried out loud.
"Yuying's mother!"
"Yuying's mother!"
"It was I who harmed you!"
"It was I who harmed you!"
After crying for a while, he wiped his tears and turned back to the village.
From then on, he began to take revenge on those villagers.
