On this day, the riverside Night Market Snack Street was bustling with crowds.
Chen Yan, dressed casually, brought Liu Yuan to the snack street. Lanterns hung on both sides of the street, their warm glow softly illuminating the river, where shimmering reflections danced with the silhouettes of couples.
Chen Yan held Liu Yuan's hand tightly as they navigated through the throngs of people. Liu Yuan followed closely behind him, patiently waiting as he queued at various stalls. The feeling was truly wonderful.
While Liu Yuan was looking around, a shy-looking college student approached her with a camera and said, "Sister, can I take your picture for free?"
Liu Yuan was taken aback. Was there really such a good thing? She asked suspiciously, "Why would you want to take my picture for free?"
The boy's cheeks flushed red. "Because you're too beautiful."
Liu Yuan was speechless. It turned out there really were free lunches in this world.
When Chen Yan returned with skewers in hand, he saw a boy standing in front of Liu Yuan. He raised an eyebrow and walked over to pull Liu Yuan into his embrace. "What's going on?"
"He said he wanted to take our picture," Liu Yuan replied.
"Is he offering to take couple photos?" Chen Yan looked at the boy smugly.
The boy's face turned pale and then flushed again; he awkwardly smiled and said, "I’ll just be going now." With that, he hurried away.
"Hey!" Liu Yuan started to call after him but was stopped by Chen Yan. "What are you doing?"
"He was going to take our picture! Why did you scare him off?" Liu Yuan complained, looking at him.
"He clearly came over for you," Chen Yan said unhappily. "Besides, I only want to take couple photos with you."
"I don't want to take pictures with you," Liu Yuan huffed.
"Really?" Chen Yan frowned.
"Really," Liu Yuan nodded firmly.
"Alright then." Chen Yan looked a bit dejected.
Liu Yuan glanced at him. "Don't be upset."
"I'm not upset," Chen Yan forced a smile for her. "Let's go eat something else."
Liu Yuan nodded in agreement.
The two wandered around the snack street for a while before somehow ending up in a dim alleyway.
Liu Yuan looked down at their shadows on the ground and paused slightly.
Chen Yan also lowered his head and leaned down to kiss her lips.
The crisp taste filled her senses; his embrace was dry and warm. He kissed her gently before slowly releasing her, his bright eyes still shining in the darkness.
"What was that for?" Liu Yuan gasped.
"He called you sister, and I got jealous," Chen Yan stated frankly.
"What?" Liu Yuan couldn't help but laugh. "Aren't you being childish?"
"It's still your choice, no matter how childish it is." Chen Yan leaned in as if to kiss her.
"Wait a minute." Liu Yuan quickly dodged away. "We still have things to do; don't mess around."
"Alright, I’ll listen to you." Chen Yan smiled indulgently.
Liu Yuan's cheeks flushed as she took a couple of steps forward, and Chen Yan immediately followed her.
They left the alley and found themselves on a small street lined with flower vendors.
Chen Yan bought Liu Yuan a bouquet of roses and then pulled her to a stall selling traditional hairpins.
Liu Yuan was very interested in the hairpins. She picked one up to examine it, then put it down and picked up another.
Chen Yan stood by, quietly watching her with eyes full of affection.
In the end, Liu Yuan chose a Lily of the Valley pin and another one shaped like a Red Cherry.
The vendor was a young girl who helped Liu Yuan put on the hairpins.
Chen Yan stood nearby, quietly observing as the girl adorned Liu Yuan's hair.
Noticing Chen Yan's gaze, the girl smiled slightly as she finished placing the pins.
Chen Yan paid and then took Liu Yuan's hand as they left.
As they walked, Liu Yuan noticed that Chen Yan kept staring at her.
"Why do you keep looking at me?" Liu Yuan felt a bit shy under his gaze.
"You're beautiful," Chen Yan replied with a smile.
"You silly," Liu Yuan blushed. "If you keep staring, you'll get tired of it."
"I won't," Chen Yan stopped walking, holding Liu Yuan's shoulders seriously. "I will never get tired of you."
Liu Yuan's cheeks turned crimson. "Let's go."
"Actually, I can style hair too," Chen Yan suddenly said.
"What?" Liu Yuan blinked in surprise.
"I mean, I watched that girl style your hair just now; it looked easy. I can do it too," Chen Yan said confidently.
"You can do that?" Liu Yuan looked at him in astonishment.
"Of course," Chen Yan laughed. "If you want, I can style your hair tomorrow."
"Maybe not," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Don't underestimate me," Chen Yan insisted confidently.
Liu Yuan: "..."
...
The next morning, Liu Yuan was still lost in sleep when she felt large hands roaming over her body.
She groggily opened her eyes to see that Chen Yan had already finished washing up. He was wearing a black shirt that made him look very spirited.
"What are you doing?" Liu Yuan rubbed her eyes.
"Get up," Chen Yan said with a smile.
"What for?" Liu Yuan asked in confusion.
"I'm going to style your hair," Chen Yan declared confidently.
Liu Yuan looked at him with great skepticism. "Are you sure you can do this?"
"A man can't say he can't," Chen Yan replied as he pulled her up. "Just wait."
Still half-convinced, Liu Yuan sat down while Chen Yan moved behind her and began to comb her hair. He was meticulous and serious, his long fingers weaving through her strands, surprisingly soothing.
Liu Yuan couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny?" Chen Yan asked.
"Nothing," Liu Yuan shook her head.
"Don't underestimate me," Chen Yan said proudly.
"Sure, sure," Liu Yuan replied dismissively.
After arranging her hair into an elegant style, Chen Yan nodded in satisfaction. "All done."
Liu Yuan looked at herself in the mirror and couldn't help but chuckle. "What is this?"
"Roses," Chen Yan said confidently. "See how beautiful it looks?"
"Where is it beautiful?" Liu Yuan asked helplessly.
"It's beautiful everywhere," Chen Yan declared proudly. "The way I styled your hair is just beautiful."
"It's hideous," Liu Yuan complained.
"Well, you chose this style," Chen Yan huffed.
"Are you being childish?" Liu Yuan said, exasperated.
"I'm just speaking the truth," Chen Yan leaned closer to her ear. "Haven't you heard the saying?"
"What saying?" Liu Yuan asked.
"In the eyes of a lover, a beauty is seen," Chen Yan laughed.
"Get away from me," Liu Yuan's cheeks flushed red.
"I'm just telling the truth," Chen Yan wrapped his arms around her. "You look good no matter what."
"Stop it," Liu Yuan said, though inside she felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey.
